Concentration camps do not lead to mass deportations. And ... Where exactly does Trump think he's going to deport US born citizens to? Thier home state? He's lost his fucking mind. Looks like Grandpa is losing the few marbles he had left. 🎵His brain is squirming like a toad.🎵

Yes, sometimes you do have to stop trying to run every policy issue by the median voter. We live in a Republic where we elect representatives to be a bit more expert on issues and government working than the median voter and work to enact policies that should benefit the constituents and the country.

Yet somehow, Trump's completely obvious mental decline and inability to understand what his administration is doing isn't a scandal.Grandpa doesn’t have a fucking clue what’s in this bill.

Facts Don't Care About Your Hypocrisy
The populist right's fraudulent war on other people's emotionsamericandreaming.substack.com
Interesting - some truth in that, regarding the slippery and dishonest way the modern right argues. But I'm intrigued and disconcerted to hear that the right are now making an intellectual attack on 'empathy', as I've, myself, long thought that empathy is grossly-over-rated as a basis for action or morals. Because it's so selective and inherently discriminatory - people usually only feel empathy for those they see as similar to themselves.
I think empathy can be narrow or wide ranging depending on the person. So yes, subjective, but not necessarily restrictive. As were all humans, mammals, and can associate with other creature; empathy can extend from one being to many others.
For example, i don’t live in Florida, but i live on the east coast. Our hot and humid July is like Florida’s spring. I dont need to live in Florida to feel empathy for their plight.
I think many US citizens have been taught (as i was) that empathy is for the deserving based in a set of criteria. Ignoring the basic humanity that binds us all together, and in its place arbitrary rules that are designed to give one self and sense to importance or belonging.
Empathy, imprisoned in tribalism. My take on what the article describes
Yeah, it's just an issue that really confuses me, because I sometimes find myself feeling sympathy or empathy for people and then being annoyed with myself for doing so, because it occurs to me I'm being manipulated, even if it's not by anyone's deliberate choice, but just by the structure of media coverage and/or my own psychology.
I mean, to take an extreme example, I felt sorry for Colonel Gadaffi on reading about his last moments. Not a nice way for anyone to go. But then when I do that I'm not thinking about the decades prior to that and all the immense suffering he inflicted on others, because that wasn't described in detail.
Likewise when I see images of the devastation in Ukraine I realise I'm being affected by the fact those bomb-damaged apartment blocks look like the ones round here and the people likewise look like people here (fellow Europeans) - but does that make those living in Gaza or Ethiopia or Yemen less worthy of sympathy? In practice that seems to be how these things work.
There are lots of other more personal/local examples as well (seems there's a whole ongoing argument about the issue of 'empathy' and its relation to neurodivergence - some forms of 'neurodiversity' get a lot more sympathy/empathy than do others).
But then if the right are now putting out books attacking empathy, it makes me wonder if my doubts about it might be conflated with whatever their attack on it is and maybe I shouldn't be so critical of the trait.
[Anyway, this is off-topic, it's just the sound of someone scratching their head and looking confused!]
Nah, the worse outcome is balcanization and then... Alaska is gone.Between collapsing SNAP, Medicaid, tariff retaliation, and the great immigration round up rural/exurban America could basically cease to exist in the next few years. Then again those voters demanded this over and over again so fine I guess.

Indeed, but Blue states might find a way to reverse it. Red states are so racist that will try to bring Russians and you know what will happen with themEvery state, even blue ones, have areas that will be badly impacted. The most likely result will be mass rural/exurban depopulation as their economies basically cease to exist.
