That's plain bull. Nobody cares that MS provides IE for free. The issue is that it's bundled with the OS that 90% of the world runs, so by default it's going to have the vast majority of market share. That stifles innovation and other browser development.

The approach of not having a browser 'built in', but allowing the user to select which browser they want when they first use windows makes each browser compete in the market, which is good for all of us.

How do you figure? No shit Windows comes with a way to get online. I'd shove Windows up Gate's ass if it didn't. That's an essential part of an O/S. The EU are just a bunch of whining pricks. What's next, a fuckin' choice for file managers? Explorer has a monopoly too :^S

How shitty that MS is forced to included those other options, basically the EU thinks Europeans are too retarded to decide what they want to use and need to be babied

Back on Opera 10.50 now after many months of FF. Opera is definitely faster and sleeker. It doesn't even feel like it's a memory hog like FF (multiple tabs, etc.) Hopefully it doesn't artifact on me... this is a keeper.

I completely agree lxskllr. Bunch of whining going on there. How hard is it to install another browser?

If MS were a European company, the EU would probably have given them giant subsidies and tax breaks to make up for all the people using IE for free. Then sued or fined any other browser for trying to mess with the greater good.

Really not impressed with 10.5. It seems to have a lot of design for Windows 7, but it feels slower in every aspect, plus the separated tabs on the taskbar are fucking annoying. Staying with 10.10.

I was an Opera LOYALIST up until this past May. I had used it for almost 7 years. But I made the switch to Firefox because of these problems:

- GMail renders better
- Facebook renders better
- Right click on google maps works
- Get sent to WAP version of some sites (kfc, tbell)
- Thru jus a couple of extensions, my favorite Opera features now in FF (paste and go, letter searches, middle clicking tab/tab bar, undo tab close)
- Some flash videos ran choppy and would not go to fullscreen
- Sometimes, when clicking through pictures in facebook albums, I get sent back to pic 1/60 when i was only at perhaps 37/60.

lol i dont use a single one of those things you listed

Opera FTW

Can you clarify what you mean by the bolded statement.

Ding ding ding.

The EU fails at antitrust analysis. High market share doesn't automatically mean monopoly abuse. Barriers to entry are an essential component to having monopoly power, as a monopolist uses them to retain its control of the market. Without barriers to entry, anybody can come in and undercut the monopolist.

This is the last place to argue that there are barriers to entry in web browsers. Anybody can go out and download Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc. and be up and running in a few minutes. And while people are whining about MS and IE being in Windows, alternative browsers have been proliferating like screwing rabbits. The antitrust argument against MS and IE these days just plain sucks.

The EU ballot decision just comes across as them thinking people in the EU are too ignorant/stupid to go out and get a different browser, so the EU has to come in and save the day.

All that said, I'm posting from Opera 10.50. :D

Sorry but I use IE8 more than I use Opera.

Chrome/Firefox > Safari > IE8 > Opera. No reason to use Opera.

And you guys with issues for Safari, you're doing it wrong. It's the same engine as Chrome. I can't comment on the PC version because it doesn't feel as smooth, but the Mac version is FAST AS HELL. Granted Mac Chrome = sux, and FF = slow, so I usually stick to FF because I can mod the hell out of it with extensions. Safari feels plain, but the find text ability with highlighting and dimming out the rest is amazing. Safari FLIES. And I'd use it oveR Opera anyday.

And Fritzo, what do yo mean Safari has problems with apps? A lot of stuff isn't designed to build right into the browser especially on Macs.... I hope this is the real expert in you speaking, not the expert on cell technology I saw in the Gadgets board today...

Who the hell cares who uses which browser or which one is better? Why is this still a fucking argument amongst net nerds? I just cannot understand why it matters which window is open while you watch your porn or read facebook.

Good for you, personally I like to use the fastest browser that does the best job at rendering the pages correctly. And that's Safari. But go ahead and use a slower browser that's less accurate.

troll post?

Too many addons for firefox that I have grown dependent on to switch to anything else. Chrome is great if all you do is surf the net though
