The party in question has been fully hijacked by the religious right. Period.
But first of all it should be noted that this so called self appointed religious right involved with the republican party takeover is not religion as we know Christianity, nor do they ever attempt to follow the teachings of our true Christian heritage.
So there is that...
The religious practices they promote is more aligned with third world Middle Eastern religion.
No tolerance. Christian and scripture rewritten to fit into their narrow view.
Pick and choosing which Christian teachings they will accept, and which they chose to simply ignore.
And the big giveaway into their tactics, they redefine all within society to fit into their twisted belief.
They force absolutely every social and economic issue of every kind through the meat grinder, and what comes out they insist as true religions philosophy.
Then, insist the entire nation must fall in line as well with this religious meat grinder philosophy.
They do all this with the skills of a serpent slithering through the grass.
You really have to keep on your toes, listen very carefully to every word they claim, and never assume anything as actual fact.
Especially as Biblical scripture fact, which what they claim as is, never actually is.
This self proclaimed self appointed religious right that took over the republican party has their every political party member as well as every single presidential candidate, in line and marching united to their drum beat.
And that alone is quite an achievement for the serpent.
They pretend they have some God given right as to how the nation should be ruled and governed. They insist everyone, regardless, that every citizen hold into their beliefs and only theirs. And sadly, they have a powerful alliance within the broadcasting industry to help them with their dirty deed. The media, which has been blindsided fooled as well.
The media as a whole gives validity to this religious right takeover.
Including the progressive liberal media, which may forcibly disagree and forcibly fight against the religious righties attempt at their takeover, but dare never to question the basic credentials in their false religious victories with doing so.
We all take as a granted that the religious right is exactly that.
That is our weakness, and their skill.
"Religious" as in Christian scripture, and "right" as to never be wrong when it comes to Christian scripture.
The "religious right". Operating out of neither.
Take SS marriage.
They, the religious right, speak in unison of "traditional marriage".
Looking into what that really means, first of all and once again they claim full ownership of marriage itself.
And dare not anyone question their authority to take full ownership of marriage definition.
Once again, the religious right took marriage, processed that through their meat grinder, and what came out was their redefining of the idea regarding marriage itself.
And no one had better question their authority to do this.
Not progressives, not the media, and never a fellow republican.
What they have so skillfully done is redefined marriage under their terms, their definition, which all must now be judged against.
Pretty slick of them, hay?
But they do this all the time. Their meat grinder thing.
And the public seldom questions their right to meat grinder each and every issue.
Never questioning how this meat grinder was built and what it consists of.
People assume what comes out is high quality chuck, where in reality is no more than raw sewage waste.
And the people that provided our news information and commentary dare not question the difference between high quality ground chuck, and raw sewage.
Just because their conclusion of point comes from this self anointed religious right, that should never be our paddock for argument and disagreement to follow.
With so called "traditional marriage", there is no such animal.
Nor is marriage any sorts of an religious entity.
One may have a marriage ceremony themed upon religion, if they so chose, or not.
And if you wish to define traditional marriage, in all accuracy you would need to go back to polygamy and the marriage to minors.
Certainly interracial marriage would not be defined within the terms of traditional marriage.
And lastly, to put the nail in this coffin concerning marriage as religion based, Atheist have been legally allowed to marry for as long as marriage has existed.
No one have questioned that fact.
Traditional marriage, schmaditional marriage, there is no such thing.
Marriage is a concept that has ever evolved and for the future, will ever evolve.
Who knows, one day with our quest to find alien life outside our universe, we may find that alien life and may desire to marry with it?
But never allow the so called and falsely assumed religious right to define or redefine a single aspect within our society.

It has been time to replace it for a long long time now. Unfortunately their primary voters are fanatics who are completely and totally captured. You have total reform on one end of the spectrum, and you have Jeb Bush on the other end. Jeb Bush will win every time. The democrats are the same with their precious Hillary. On both sides of the isle, the primary voters are completely brainwashed and braindead. Both parties need to go. In order for that to happen, enough people have to wake up and vote in an outsider who will push hard for electoral reform. We need a 21st century electoral system. Instead of spending millions traveling around the country, all a candidate should have to do is answer questions on a forum and people can read (or watch) the candidates answer. And there should be a LOT more debates. We spend millions in taxpayer dollars on public campaign finance. Why isnt that money going toward building a real website for candidates, where all information, all interviews, all debates, everything accessible on the candidate's page? For the money that's been spent, we could have built a massive public website that aggregates all the media related to each candidate. This could truly allow voters to make informed decisions. Instead, the money is completely wasted on goddam nothing. We should have a website that does regular live debates between candidates. Live, or even pseudo-live, where the candidates just go back and forth in an extended series of rebuttals that get archived. But there is literally nothing like this in existence, yet it is so cheap and easy to do compared to the logistics and costs of campaigning. wtf?!?

I'm of the opinion that lobby really runs government. I think both sides are screwed up in their own way and as long as our political and electoral system, is what it is, were not likely to see anything meaningful from any candidate or party regardless of what they say.
