South Korea should have some say on who attacks North Korea. Some of the people in the North are their relatives. The South Koreans are one of our few friendly (more or less) strategic allies, and we have thousands of troops there on the ground who would be in harms way. In the case of South Korea all the tanks and artillery and infantry, Helicopters and an airforce base are already in place on the ground.

Avoiding a war with North Korea would be adventageous. South Korea is a very small country. It could be destroyed rather quickly with one or two nukes if North Korea was to go that far.

NK is far more pragmatic than...say, Iran. But we can't say NK won't start war eventually.

Unless communist government is destroyed via-internal warfare or anti-communist insurgency, south korea and north korea will have to fight sooner or later.

Why does the US want a war with NK? USA would have nothing to gain accept a couple hundred thousand KIAs.

NK continues to threaten conflict because it NEEDS aid. The only way to get aid is to use nuclear weapons as leverage.

It is not fear mongering to view this situation as a powder keg. Sooner or later war will erupt. It cannot last like this. Not indefinitely.

NK isn't suicidal yet, but if it enters a stage of failed state, it might lash out at South Korea.

Who knows. Could be tomorrow. could be 50 years. But it will happen unless North Korea is destroyed from within.

The DPRK is perilously close to imploding from within. Their currency is worthless. The ROK wants to stay as far away as possible from being implicated in any way.

DPRKs annual GDP is $28 billion. While much has previously been consumed by the military, even that has been seriously slashed over the last 5 years.
