Without actually having seen the movie, I can take a guess as to who would like and why. I can also take a guess as to who would have made it and why.
It all has to do with nature, dude. You see, in us all, is this thing called the 'survival of the fittest' instinct that we are born with. That is the 'nature' part of us. Then society gets a hold of us and molds us to it's views which run counter to nature. In the wild, the stronger, faster and meaner survive because that's just the way it is. Unfortunately, intelligence also plays a role and that survival and as a concequence, those are the genes that get passed and culled through each succeeded generation. We, as a species, are the end result of nature gone wild. We, as a species, are an abberration of nature, a fluke of inbalance where intelligence has overridden the other instincts into extinction, or not totally.
You see, in nature, intelligence, strength, speed and meanness are all balanced. When you are born, you are born with these qualities in a much more balanced fashion. It is through the process of conditioning that society culls the other qualities out of you. The older you get, the more conditioned you are and the less likely that, as a 'valued member of society' or 'upstanding citizen' you are to entertain thoughts or exerts actions that violate the rules of what a civilized person would do.
There is a constant battle raging inside each one of us. You see 'nature' wants to bring you into its fold. It MUST bring you into its fold because it cannot survive if it's rules are violated. Unfortunately, if it is to survive, then life as we know it must perish. Nature has been around much, much longer that we have. It existed before we did. It is what gave us life. Now, one of it's members is retaliating against it. A child gone wild. We want to live without nature's
rules. We want to use our intelligence to solve all our problems. Yet, intelligence is the one quality that is going to doom us into non-existence.
Do you ever wonder why an aging, overweight, physically unfit human being would command salaries that are outrageous? How about a fast, strong, obviously slow thinker commanding millions? Just the very thought of using 'money' to equate money with worthiness. Society teaches us that the more money, influence and prestige we can attain, the better we are as it's members. That's the imbalance that a civilized society imparts on it's members. In nature, a golf 'pro' or a football 'pro' would not survive for long. Money would mean nothing to nature. It is whether you can go out and kill for survival. Not just other members of your species, but other species in general. That is what keeps members of nature fit, the exercise you get while hunting and to get ready for the hunt, stamina, speed, strength and yes, intelligence. Not many of us would survive in nature. We are all overweight, asthmatic and weak. Would a basketball 'pro' survive? Would an Indy 500 winner? Those that would survive would be the violent, strong, and fit...ie, our convicts that we have jailed because they have allowed nature to control them for a fleeting moment, some, all their lives. Some have done something that society will not let them forget for their entire lives, ostricized by it.
Thus, if people can't live out their desires, ie. nature, and exist in society, they channel their aggression 'nature' into other forms of existence. This is mainly done through movies, video games, and spectator sports. So, the people that made this Fight Club movie, were doing so to let out their natural violence and aggression. It, in general, will appeal to the younger audience that society has not beaten nature out of, through conditioning. It will not appeal to the older, more conditioned audience that makes up society because it will go against all that violates it's existence. People come in all flavors, so some become aclimated to society's norms at an early age and they will not like this movie, others who have a wild streak in them or rebel against society will like this movie.
I think I have bored you enough with these rambling thoughts. Religion also has a role in society, but that's a different thread, although not entirely.
Later,
