Whats your theory that young males like it? I have plenty of friends that dislike it...

my theory is that younger people are more rebellious, anti establishment, full of values that they want to impose to others, etc... These messages are very strong in fight club, hence why I think younger people will like it more..

of course your theory is gonna work here. mainly young people who love violence in movies on the forums. better go out and test your theory more.

if you really think that younger people are more rebellious and anti establishment .. go look at what people are wearing and buying.

I'm a 32 year old male and I loved this film. In fact, my wife loves this movie, too (she's 28).

I remember seeing the trailer in a theatre and thinking how stupid it looked. It was a crappy trailer, it didn't even begin to illustrate the depth of the movie.

Like others mentioned, the first viewing was kind of an introduction. I've watched at least a dozen times since and always enjoy it more than I did the first time.

Did you guys miss these quotes? Read these again and try to tell me the movie didn't kick @ss.

Tyler Durden: We're the middle children of history.... no purpose or place. We have no Great War, no Great Depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives.

Tyler Durden: The things you own end up owning you. It's only after you lose everything that you're free to do anything.

Tyler Durden: Listen up, maggots. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else.

[after vigorous sex with Tyler Durden]
Marla Singer: My God. I haven't been fvcked like that since grade school.

Tyler Durden: Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy sh1t we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

Narrator: Oh yeah, Chloe... Chloe looked the way Meryl Streep's skeleton would look if you made it smile and walk around the party being extra nice to everybody.

Narrator: [While brutally beating Angel Face] I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every Panda that wouldn't screw to save its species. I wanted to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all the French beaches I'd never see. I wanted to breathe smoke.

Narrator: Was it ticking?
Airport Security Officer: Actually throwers don't worry about ticking 'cause modern bombs don't tick.
Narrator: Sorry, throwers?
Airport Security Officer: Baggage handlers. But, when a suitcase vibrates, then the throwers gotta call the police.
Narrator: My suitcase was vibrating?
Airport Security Officer: Nine times out of ten it's an electric razor, but every once in a while...
[whispering]
Airport Security Officer: it's a dildo. Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article "a dildo", never "your dildo".

was here really talking to himself the entire movie and no one noticed? he shared a beer with himself?? he was in the kitchen and having sex at the same time? that's not how multiple personality disorder works! one personality does not chill in the kitchen while the other is watching the game in the den!

It's not supposed to be taken literally.

Fincher had to portray multiple personalities without giving away that they are the same person. You have to suspend your disbelief of what you had watched previously and not delve too far into the way it was made in the movie but rather what it meant to the story.

Something like this is VERY hard to portray in a movie and I think Fincher did a brilliant job of doing it.

yes, I noticed these things in the movie...

but WHY u think these messages make the movie "kick ass"?? I just take it at face value..

example: the dildo dialogue, WTF is so special about it? its just a conversation about a bag for christ's sake...

maybe I am missing something here... help me out...

to me this movie is just like other movies that try to smartly package stupid common knowledge so that it appeals to a lot of people

The multiple personality thing is just stupid IMO...

its like wathcin a movie about A for the first 3/4, then somehow u get force fed B in your face..

no sense whatsoever...

its not like the plot twist like the sixth sense, where at the end u think ohhhhhhhhhh yea it makes sense...

the plot twist of this movie is just stupid and doesnt make any sense...

I think most people miss that fact that this is a dark comedy. Watch the movie with the commentary on, it may help to change your perspective on what the movie was trying to convey.

"His name is Robert Paulson"

Also, for the poster who didn't think that a militia could rise and be that loyal, think again. Youth has been key to the majorty of revolutions that this world has seen. Check out a really old movie called "The Wave" it does a really good job on showing how easy it is to manipulate people to do this sort of thing.

Of course. Thats why everyone says you have to watch it at least twice..... some woudl recommend watching it twice in a row, back to back.

It is appealing to many because its message is anti-materialistic.... it is right in that sense. I've seen people working two jobs who own a nice sports car. They are still living in an apartment, and have to work 60hrs a week or more to keep their nice car.... When you start living for your possessions, then you begin serving them, instead of the other way around.

I liked the movie because of that message mainly. Focus on what's important, not what others judge you by.

I am sorry but the so called army are "OLDER" people... and he succeeds in getting almost the whole town to join his army!... it is just too farfetched...
Also he did all this in what timeframe? a couple of years? and he succeeded in not only 1 town but multiple towns too??
WTF is that..

I agree that the movie was well made (the effects, sound, etc) but the story is just not there...

maybe its because I am not american I dont get really affected by the message of the movie..

Yes I get the message of anti materialism, also bout the advertising...

Yes I also feel that the average american people is WAYYYYY too consumerist.. ie spend money (that they dont even yet have) on things that they dont really need..

But still I find the movie mediocre at best..

ok maybe I will try to watch this movie again...

LOL! You're one of those people who think movies should be realistic.

Time for a clue for you...

Its called fiction for a reason. Guess you go around to star trek conferences and like to point out "well the planet couldn't have had tribbles because they were the same sex, etc"
:)

the movie was 2 stars. the book was 2.5. neither were the masterpieces people make them out to be, but they weren't horrible either.

You're not looking at the movie as a whole. You're taking individual things that didn't make sense to you and aren't even trying to apply them to the movie as a whole to understand it.

Just go watch your Van Damme movies. :p

I also find it hilarious that people can't suspend their disbelief to enjoy Fight Club because it's not possible, but then RAVE about Lord of the Rings with its hobbits, elves and wizards.
