How is it wrong? Your little theory that it cant be stealing because the name of the charge is different was blown out of the water, so now you resort to calling names.

Do your parents still make you eat at the kiddie table on Thanksgiving when they start talking about big people stuff?

People took the time and effort to type out a reply; you owe us a simple enough effort to read the replies. The difference between the two has been stated. It's also common fucking sense. Now either go back to playing with wooden blocks and nap time or fucking pay attention to the conversation.

You're going to have to find a way to deal with the pain and sorrow of me giving you the middle finger instead of answering your questions because my answers don't mean jack shit.

Except in my model somebody is getting paid. In the "it's not stealing it's PIRACY" model, nobody gets paid.

LOL. So it's okay if people pirate movies and music and software as long as the guy selling the pirated product is getting paid? Good to know

Of course you are. Giving me concise answers that clearly lay out your feelings would undermine your arguments

Can't you learn to quote properly? Holy Christ...

Anyway, whether I condone or chastise piracy will not change anything I've posted in this thread. Deal with it.

Oh, and piracy helps the environment:

http://www.vincentchow.net/ima...iracyglobalwarming.jpg

No, really, that motivational makes perfect sense. The companies just need to start following the model that pirates are going for. Give the application for free, charge for support. Pirates are mostly home users with low budgets for software and don't need support.

In case of movies/music, the money comes from concerts/theater attendance anyway. Also when it comes to movies you are actually missing out by pirating it. It's rather hard to find a good quality dvdrip. I personally can justify paying money to go rent the movie or even go see it at the cinema.

Yep, sure won't. Pirates will always find a way to justify their "copyright infringement."

Do you actually have anything to add to this conversation other than piss and vinegar? Will giving you another cookie shut you up for a few minutes? :p

Pot, meet kettle ;)

Clearly we should just agree to disagree.

That said, at the end of the day, piracy affects me (indirectly), not you, thus why I am such a "raging keyboard warrior". I think I got that quote right, too lazy to scroll up.

I call shens.

1. 69.427.867.530 corresponds to an IP assigned to Newport News, VA, owned by Cox Communications, not Verizon.

2. sanfran.fios.verizon.net is not a valid DNS server - Verizon does not operate FIOS in the SF Bay Area.

3. Brokeback.Mountain.Uncut.720p.HD.x264-0mG-uA-fGT returns no other match to any name of torrent files on Google aside from link to this thread.

4. And "possibly a spanking"? Are you serios you cannot B serios.

Who's disagreeing? That's one of my main points. I'm not really sure who you're arguing with since I've not stated anything that contradicts your posts other than the difference between theft and copyright infringement ;)

It makes me giggle that you think piracy affects you, though. It makes me giggle that you think you know so much about me that you're certain piracy doesn't affect me even though it somehow can affect you. There's a lot of assumption right there. It's gigglicious.

You did get the quote right, though! Good job. If you're ever in PDX, look me up and I'll get you a beer. Hell, I might even pay for it ;)

Awwwwww :( You suck for exposing his shens. I was sincerely hoping he got busted for pirating Brokebutt Mounting. Now he can't get ownage of the year :(

I work at major entertainment company, therefore it effects me. I make these assumptions based on your "it's not stealing, it's PIRACY" attitude. If I am sorely mistaken and you work at say, Microsoft, Universal, or BMG (or any other company who's bread and butter is IP), well then, joke's on me!

Well that explains your blind-follower stance a little bit. This goes back to my previous comment about compensation. Just because someone does pirate something doesn't mean that's lost revenue. It doesn't affect you because people who pirate crap wouldn't pay for it anyway if they couldn't pirate it. There is absolutely no correlation between piracy and lost revenue. None whatsoever. You can't point your finger at pirates and say they're 'affecting' you without proof.

We (computing services) get these occasionally for the students at my college. Out of the ones I've seen, this is kind of the first level of them. Stop downloading (or uploading really is the main thing that bugs them) and you should be fine. I saw a girl though who kept getting messages and ignoring them and then got hit with a serious lawsuit. Her dad comes to the desk and goes on about how "his daughter wouldn't download illegally, she said she didn't do it and I believe her!" Talk about having the wool pulled over your eyes. Unfortunate situation all around.

That's very true. People would either find alternatives or just not bother. Especially with software. For example if people did not pirate photoshop, they'd just use gimp. When it comes to movies, they just would not watch it, or go watch it at someone's house. Heck lot of people will go see a movie and pay for it, but then also go download it at another instance.

The whole movie/music/software model today is outdated though. I would actually pay 5-10 bucks to have access to a good quality download of a movie. That's something I'd be more then willing to do. Same with software, if it was priced half decently. IF I could download an ISO of photoshop CS for 60 bucks, I'd probably pay for it. $3,000 bucks, no. Companies need to be reasonable with their pricing. (and no, I actually don't have photoshop CS, I'm happy with 6).

That's scary. We hear of these lawsuits, but until it hits someone close is when you realize how bad it is. TBH if I was in the states I'd be freaked out every time I do a search on p2p networks, knowing the feds could be watching my every packet in real time. Here in Canada music is actually legal to download since we pay a tax on certain media. As long as they keep that tax under control and don't start getting crazy with it, I'm 100% ok with that. We already pay enough taxes, and extra couple dollars on a spindle of CDs is not what's going to kill me, even if I'm not burning music on them.

Stealing is stealing, plain and simple. Do I DL mp3s or movies or tv shows? yeah, you bet I do. ANd it's stealing. (I feel like George in that Seinfeld episode where he bootlegs a movie). If I could afford all the stuff I DL I would definitely buy/pay for it. But I'm broke, and I still want to watch movies & tv shows with my gf, so I'm going to DL them. When I have a better paying job, I'll pay for them legally. For now, I'm stealing.

So each time you download a movie, the producers don't have the movie anymore?

The damage done in stealing is that the originator no longer has said item.

Is piracy ok? no, it's still illegal, but it's a different crime, and WAY less damaging then someone breaking into a store and taking money or items.
