You are correct. Stealing = stealing. A does equal A. However, since A does not equal B, copyright infringement is not stealing. Give up now, I will argue this till the cows come home.

You can rationalize your pirating all you want, it doesnt mean you arent a d-bag for doing it.

Once packet-sniffing is fully implemented, you wont be "copying" anything anymore.

Thanks to assholes like you, all of our original internet rights are being infringed.

You copyright infringing fucks (does not directly apply to you nik, just copyright infringing fucks) are stealing from future revenues that would have been earned had you paid money for said movie/music/whatever.

Retort: I wasn't going to buy it anyway, so no revenue was lost

Answer: Then you have no right to view/listen/access whatever copyright you fucking infringed upon. Asshole

Stealing is wrong.
Copyright infringement is wrong.

Therefore, copyright infringement = stealing?

The fact is they are not exactly the same thing. You can argue that copyright infringement is wrong and illegal (it is!) but it isn't stealing. If it was in fact stealing, then why is the MPAA going after people for theft?

It's just that there are a few moral crusaders (like you, Ns1?) who are so pissed off about the blatant disregard for copyright laws many people have that they really, desperately want to attach a meaner-sounding word to what they are doing. "Stealing" sounds so much more reprehensible than "copyright infringement." But it's inaccurate. It's like calling child molesters murderers.

P.S. I never said copyright infringement is fine, or is somehow "more acceptable" than stealing. If anything, you should be pushing for the copyright infringement distinction since it carries much heavier fines. You don't see first-time offenders facing the choice between a lengthy and expensive court proceeding and a several thousand dollar settlement for taking a couple CDs from a record store.

Wow. Overreact much? First of all, those who don't break the law shouldn't have their rights infringed because of a TINY few that do break the law. That's bad government and if you're willing to go along with it, you don't deserve to complain.

Second, argued ad nauseum blah blah blah I'm still not wrong. It's not stealing. Nobody's losing any money or any data or any item.

Third, point your silly, uncalledfor personal attacks at someone else.

You are getting something that you did not pay for and you had no right to view/listen/access.

It's not stealing if you fucking pay for it you fucking copyright infringing assholes.

There is absolutely no correlation between pirating things like games and movies and the purchase of said games and movies. The pirate will either not pay for it and not play it or pirate it and play it. The assumption that, if the material were not available to pirate, the person would actually go out and buy it is stupidly short-sighted and absolutely baseless.

RIAA and MPAA have never, ever to this day successfully prosecuted anyone for theft, copyright infringement based on internet pirating.

Really? Using torrents is automatically pirating? And not using bittorrent to pirate means he uses something else to do it?

Does that make it ok? NO. So don't fucking download it and watch it if you don't plan on fucking paying for it.

Christ, this is not a hard concept.

If you are going to download it and watch it anyway, call yourself a fucking pirate and move on. Don't try to justify it using the "I'm not stealing" bullshit.

I'm not even gonna argue semantics with you guys anymore. Just follow this flowchart

1) Did you download a movie with no intention to pay for said movie, in any way shape size or form
Yes: You are a pirate
No: Move on to question 2

2) Did you download a movie, and then pay for it in some way shape size or form?
Yes: You are still a pirate, but I'll let you slide cuz I understand
No: You are a pirate

Your flowchart fails. You are a pirate no matter what happens do according to you. Even if you never downloaded anything!

I'm not sure what you're on about. Was I condoning piracy? Where are you getting this "stop saying it's okay" crap? Did anyone SAY they think it's OK?

You're like a little kid stomping up and down in the corner screaming that he wants a cookie while several people around you are trying to give you one.

Sit down, eat your cookie, and shut the hell up :p

Please, I'm inferring by your posts that you believe copyright infringement is ok. If you disagree on this point (ie copyright infringement is not ok) then we have nothing to argue about

I don't like people unjustly enriching themselves. I don't want a cookie, I want copyright infringing fuckers to pay for their shit

Your quote is suck :p

So you're basically inferring an argument? I haven't said a WORD condoning piracy and you're setting your keyboard on fire typing out replies because you're trying waaaaaaaaaayy too hard to read between the lines? Really. Stop posting.

You know what they say about people who assume...

As I understand it, Nik is simply saying that piracy/copyright infringement is not precisely the same thing as stealing. Far as I can tell he's not claiming it's okay, he's just saying that it's not the same thing, which is true. The RIAA/MPAA go after people for copyright infringement, not theft.

You seem to believe that the definition of the word "stealing" is "doing something wrong," and if Nik claims that someone is not "stealing" then it follows that he does not believe they are doing anything wrong. See my example of murder vs. child molester. A child molester is not a murderer. Doesn't make molesting children right, but it's NOT the same thing. To avoid confusion, we prefer to stick to a constant definition.

I don't give a fuck what we call it, stealing, copyright infringement, whatever. Let's be clear here, the people who piss me the fuck off are people who download shit and have no plans whatsoever to properly compensate the people who worked their asses off to produce said product.

Double the amount of "piss me the fuck off" when they try to justify their actions.

Actually I mentioned torrents but not of what. Could be a few linux distros, or a beta of windows, you get the drift... :D But admit it, everybody does it. 99% of home windows installations are pirated. Who actually buys windows, or office, for home? You could spent that 1k+ on a whole new pc instead.

Also piracy != stealing. Stealing is taking something away. Piracy just makes a copy, and does not cause anything to be missing or damaged.
