From the link I provided it seems as though France et al will veto any resolution that gives the US/UK the authority in post-war Iraq. The US/UK could still play a role in the rebuilding of Iraq (and they will no doubt have to play a role), but the authority would be in the hands of the UN. There is a difference between playing a role and having the authority.

That's rough... I guess in all reality, it's difficult to keep track of every soldier/tank at every stage of ongoing combat... In the split second that is engagement, you have a less than a split second to make a decision to either fire or possibly be fired upon and killed...
Especially when you're in enemy territory, its dark and there's a sand storm on. I can't imagine more complex conditions really.

A german busineesman and Iraqi national were arrested for attempting to defy UN resolutions and provide banned weapons to Iraq.
Illegal arms provided by the Russians, German, and French (along with their lucrative oil deals that pay off when sanctions are lifted) all in obvious violation of UN resolution.
Why are they arguing about the need to comply with the UN???? Their arguement, while a legitimate one, is drowned out by their own hypocrisy. I have a few suggestions for the emergency UN meeting.
First bring these blatant violaters to the mat, and make sure they don't get the opportunity to profit from rebuilding efforts. They have already made their money......

Well, we're already preparing to hand out $900 million in rebuilding contracts to US firms, with a special invitation to Cheney's old company to bid. Link.
It's not taking over the oil fields and shipping oil to the US for free (that would be true 'spoils of war'), but it is a clear intention to do some rebuilding ourselves and make sure the contract proceeds go back to the US. Guess we won't be leaving Dodge quite as quick as some here expect...
Since we are the ones footing the bill and almost all the risk, I don't see why not. I couldn't care less if US contractors are there after, the point is to have the military get out of dodge as soon as possible.
