I think it the US playing hardball, link

France, Russia and China said about a week ago they would veto ANY resolution that gave the US a role in rebuilding Iraq. We would gladly go to the UN if France, Russia and China get condemded for their illegal arms sales to Iraq, and are punished for doing so. If the US doesnt have the right to rebuild Iraq, France, Russia, China and Germany sure as hell dont either. All sides involved in this are fvcking greedy. Does France, Russia, China and Germany care about Iraq? Hell no, they care about the money they are owed, plus their oil deals that would rob the new Iraq out of trillions of dollars.

From the link I provided it seems as though France et al will veto any resolution that gives the US/UK the authority in post-war Iraq. The US/UK could still play a role in the rebuilding of Iraq (and they will no doubt have to play a role), but the authority would be in the hands of the UN. There is a difference between playing a role and having the authority.

FNC is reporting that senior defense officials are saying that Iraqi troops dressed as Coalition troops are taking the surrenders of other Iraqi troops. The ones who are surrendering are being executed.

This is disgusting, but believeable.

Do you honestly think the Iraqi people would want the French, Russia, China and Germany doing the rebuilding? Countries that could careless about the Iraqi people. All the care about is money, all are going to be found guilty of illegal weapon sales to Iraq, the UN should condem these 4 countries, but they cant because 3 of the 4 have veto power, and the 4 has a SC vote as well. The UN is a joke when countries just do things that are illegal under UN resolutions. If you dont want the US and UK involved in the rebuilding process, France, Russia, China and Germany shouldnt be involved in the rebuilding process either. All prior oil contract need to be null and void as well. $2-3 per barrel of oil is a fvcking joke(Frances oil deal)

I nor you have any idea who the Iraqi's may choose to help in the rebuilding. Seems to me you are accusing the French/Germans/etc of exactly what you want to do. This is why the UN needs to be in charge.

That's rough... I guess in all reality, it's difficult to keep track of every soldier/tank at every stage of ongoing combat... In the split second that is engagement, you have a less than a split second to make a decision to either fire or possibly be fired upon and killed...

Especially when you're in enemy territory, its dark and there's a sand storm on. I can't imagine more complex conditions really.

A german busineesman and Iraqi national were arrested for attempting to defy UN resolutions and provide banned weapons to Iraq.

Illegal arms provided by the Russians, German, and French (along with their lucrative oil deals that pay off when sanctions are lifted) all in obvious violation of UN resolution.

Why are they arguing about the need to comply with the UN???? Their arguement, while a legitimate one, is drowned out by their own hypocrisy. I have a few suggestions for the emergency UN meeting.
First bring these blatant violaters to the mat, and make sure they don't get the opportunity to profit from rebuilding efforts. They have already made their money......

this is what we've been waiting for I think; but with all the BS the Iraqi's have pulled I'd be very careful

Did the report of the arrest of a German businessman and Iraqi national hit here yet???

Nope, haven't heard anything about that...

Did u see the guy from Somalia who's praying for an "Iraqi victory"?

I think it's time to bring some Apaches to Somalia ("We're baaaaaaaaaack")

Edit: "Last week, an alleged al-Qaeda operative was taken from Somalia to Kenya, reportedly with help from the FBI, in connection with recent terror attacks in East Africa. " Yes it's definitely time for some revenge.

w00t!!

They dropped Fox News on the Iraqi TV station? Talk about killing two birds with one stone. ;)

That was low... I like Fox News but found that funny. Anyway, glad they finally took that out.... now they need to broadcast what the truth is.

Yes it is... Wars are fought for one of three reasons:

Economic
Political
Religious

This one is partly Economic and partly Political...

We win the war, we get some spoils, that's how it works...

: ) Hopper
No, we don't. We remove Saddam from power, liberate the people, destroy the weapons of mass destruction when found, and get fck outta Dodge!

We're not Vikings or Visigoths.

Well, we're already preparing to hand out $900 million in rebuilding contracts to US firms, with a special invitation to Cheney's old company to bid. Link.

It's not taking over the oil fields and shipping oil to the US for free (that would be true 'spoils of war'), but it is a clear intention to do some rebuilding ourselves and make sure the contract proceeds go back to the US. Guess we won't be leaving Dodge quite as quick as some here expect...

Since we are the ones footing the bill and almost all the risk, I don't see why not. I couldn't care less if US contractors are there after, the point is to have the military get out of dodge as soon as possible.

You can add China to that list. Iraq has Chinese anti-ship missles.
