$100k a month doesn't seem possible.

i know most smaller tournaments are $500 to a few thousand at most.
what are larger tours? $10k?

are there 10 large tours a month? do they overlap? can you attend them all? can you win them all?

The GSL's are every other month, while other tourneys like IEM, WCG, etc. happen quite frequently as well. Tourneys are rarely ragtag now, and most have sponsorships for large corporations such as intel, nvidia, asus, shinhan bank, pringles, blizzard/gom, fairly impressive production values, and huge prize pools. The reason this is hard to imagine in the United States is because we don't have a very developed gaming culture here as nobody takes gaming beyond recreation, as oppose to europe and asia.

Woot, I just played my first ever game of SC2! I started off on the little "intro" league and boy do I need it, I don't know how people do so many tasks at once (let me put it this way, my APM is probably around...20). At one point I had 5500+ minerals and 4000+ gas I was sitting on because I'm not able to focus on spending it.

TONS of fun though, I actually won. But boy do I have alot to learn!!!

Just more proof that this game is terribly imbalanced. All he made was cloaked banshees and marines and I guarantee he won the game. Lots of skill there right?

Cue the insults and defenders...

Edit: listen to the girl, lol. "Are all Terran this happy?"

Yes, cause the game is terrible.
Why don't you just leave the thread? You are looking for opportunities to bitch and it makes you look like an idiot.

Don't worry, I was the same when I first started playing. I focused too much on econ macro and not enough buildings to produce fighting units. As you play more and more, you'll be correcting these mistakes and find a good balance.

What are everybody's favorite custom maps?

I have been getting into "Star Battle" and although the premise is simple, I find it highly addictive. I have been playing it non-stop for the past week, as soon as I get home I find myself wanting to play it yet again.

It reminds me a lot of an outer-space version of DOTA. There is a ton of depth to it in terms of strategy, although the usual problems plague it somewhat (people dropping right away, or just sitting AFK the whole game, etc..)

There really arent any good custom games for SC2 yet. The quality is not to par with the custom games that were being released for Warcraft Three... Some games are close. I find Marine Arena to be fantastic. However, the tower defense maps aren't even halfway to the TD maps in W3...

I also want to comment on balance... I find that solo is mostly balanced. I like the different race match-ups even if I dont enjoy mirror matches... As a protoss player I feel like I can handle the Zerg style of play, and while Terran has many more options I can go toe to toe with them as well.

Where the game balance suffers is in team games. Zerg is incredibly overpowered in a team game atmosphere. A zerg player who only masses speedlings is an incredible asset to a team. He controls the entire map with his units and the other team cannot expand and cannot even scout. On maps with large ramps a team that draws two zerg can either dual 6 pool or dual 9 pool and it is guaranteed to take one player out of the game. I cannot tell the number of games where I know that there is nothing I can do to combat what the zerg player/players are doing on the map...

Last night I played in a 3v3 with two of my friends. We played against a random/zerg/zerg team and they rolled triple zerg. The ramps were big so I built close to my main in order to defend against at worst a double 6-pool. They actually double 9-pooled and hit me right as I got out my second zealot. I lost both zealots and 3 probes but killed all their zerglings. Wave two hit when I had 3 new zealots and I lost a few more probes that time. When wave 3 came, there were around 40 zerglings and I have 5 zealots. I died. Now here is the kicker... Normally My two partners who cant really help because the lings will base rape them should be able to take out three zerg players at this point due to the time I bought them. However, the other zerg double expo'd right away and neither of my partners had a chance to expo because we had no map control. Although my partners were able to overcome the two mass speedling players at this point they also had mass muta to deal with. Protoss and terran cant get back to their bases in time and if they run they get surrounded anyway. This created an impossible situation. When they game started and they rolled 3 zerg we had already lost the game. This is not balance...

The one way to deal with this as a protoss player is to do some sensible cannoning. However, when a zerg player sees cannoning and defensive play they quickly mass expo. This means you will be fighting 200 food worth of zerg before you have anywhere near that amount... It's not a sensible choice even though it keeps you alive longer...

if 2 of them 9 pooled you, then they are at a serious economic disadvantage.
if i were your teammates, i would've let your base fall and countered fairly quickly. 2 economy deprived zerg plus a 3rd guy teching cannot stop a 2 man tier 1, tier 1.5 counter.

Yeah, I think alot of it will come with practice.

Yeah, I think alot of it will come with practice.

These are some good principles to follow:

1) Always build workers
2) Don't get supply blocked. Keep looking at the top right of your screen and build depots/pylons/ovies when required.
3) Always be producing out of your production structures (barracks, gateways, etc.)

When you have to fight, just attack move and go back to points 1-3 above.

By doing the above you should always have your money low. Up to the 10 minute mark, it should be relatively easy (once you practice) to always be below 200 minerals/200 gas. After that it gets harder.

This is incorrect... A zerg with a saturated expo teching to muta plus two zerg massing ling will be able to handle a two player push. A good terran push with stim pack would do damage, but the fact is if my teammates leave their bases then they lose their base. With one outcome we would have downed the expo and been down another base. In the other option, the mass lings surround their troops and kill them all.

This is all assuming that the zerg players are not stupid. If you play stupid players you can always win, but when you're playing solid top 10 diamond players they aren't going to throw their lings into a stim packed terran MM ball unless they can kill it.

you are not stopping a 2 player push alone (or with your 2 eco weak zerg teammates), saturated expo or not.
2 terran will have at least 20 marines/10 marauders at your door at the 7 minute mark with stim, shells and shields.
your teammates will be droning up, and you will barely have your spire up.

If both my partners were Terran there would have been a small chance... I still say they only get the expo down and dont make it into the bases... once you stim twice with your MM ball its significantly weakened and the ling-fest will just bait you into it... A nine-pool isnt that risky economy wise by the way... One of them could even have bane-lings by the time the terran push comes. The amount of the map that the speedlings cover is the overpowered part.

Dumac: Whats wrong with top 10 3v3 diamond players?
