I use a vent server when I play with a friend, because the in-game chat is so terrible (as is the WoW one if I remember correctly). It's so quiet that you can never hear the other person even if you turn it up all the way. I tried TeamSpeak 3, but I think my host for that must be bad, as one night I just kept getting constantly booted off of it but sat playing the game without a problem :hmm:.

Damn, another TvT won with Viking air control. He actually outmacro'd me pretty badly, but he lost because he kept throwing his BC's into my Viking ball, and Vikings can kite BC's all day. We mined out the entire map, and we ended up fighting over the last mineral spot until I picked off his CC.

doesn't someone at ATOT still have a vent server? maybe we could use that for ATPCG sponsored matches...

They have a heck detector, it's called Warden, it works by flagging hackers and then waiting and mass banning them all so that they don't know which hack etc set off the detection program. It was turned on recently and Blizz just posted about it.

The banhammer cometh

But does it work good enough?

It was said they had such a hack detector in sc1 but if they actually did have it, it did not work. hacks were everywhere. Famous were the multi-command hacks and auto-mine (not needed in sc2 :) )that were so easly detectable (also by players not just blizzard).
The problem is you could just leave if you played non-ladder. But now, with the ladder much more "important and intergrated" and almost no option to play custom maps, well it could kill the game.

it's not going to kill the game. Map hackers are still a minority, and Warden was responsible for the 300,000 at once bans that occurred in WoW so I would say it is pretty effective. They are never going to have 100% protection from hacks but with the in game reporting tools, and people sending replays to blizz and warden they should have enough that it isn't an issue. I have yet to play a hacker.. or if I did he wasn't very good.

I still have my 15 person vent server.... Used to be bigger, but I lost my sweet deal when I forgot to update my card info :(.

ehehehe more epic 2v2 cheese tonight. spent like 12+hrs yesterday working on my thesis so I figured I'd have some fun today.

my friend and I were T(me)Z(him) v PZ on lost temple. He was being ridiculous & decided to double spine-crawler rush the other zerg. worst plan ever (but still hilarious). Figuring that we were fucked, I went for some cauthonluck cheese (early banshees on 11 supply).

His shit failed horribly so he pestered the Z with zerglings until my friend got wiped out.
My banshees took out all of the protoss's probes :D

Meanwhile I expanded & started pumping some ground units to defend myself. I shared control w/my friend & he took care of harassing while I macro'd.

we came back to win that in epic fashion :D Poor protoss player never got more than like 15 or so probes at a time before we'd drop or banshee him. fantaaaaaaaaastic. Our two opponents were having serious "WTF" moments--how could they be losing when 1 of the enemy gets wiped out? :D

How bout, Just cause you're in Diamond doesn't mean that you are good? There are many bad Diamond players. Get to #1 in your diamond league. Hit the top 200 in your region. Choose a different race and see if you stay in Diamond. Win 5 games only using Ravens and Marines.

Disclaimer: Not saying you're bad, but it might get you to play more
I'm definitely not great or anything, but the real issue is that I don't really find 1v1 all that fun for some reason.

Anyways, someone should set up an AT tournament or 2v2 games or something. That would be a fun reason to log on.

Ran into a probe rush last night. His 6-7 probes vs my 10 SCVs. He tried to attack and pull back to recharge so the next time he came in, I ran past him and then attacked and caught a few of his probes between my SCVs. Once he was down to 2 he quit.

1v1 is stressful. It isn't fun at first because you don't have a crutch. its all about you vs him and it exposes problems in your game and your flaws very apparently. you'll get your ass handed to you, no doubt. however in my opinion it's the quickest way to get better and improve yourself. It can be fun later though once you start to identify your flaws and improve your game though!

I'm not bad at all, although undoubtedly one of the great things about this game is that there are always ways to improve. But I don't really think that's why I don't enjoy 1v1...not sure what it is.

I just had 2 games against same guy who must of been using that drop hack thing. All of a sudden game says "You have been dropped!". and allows me to exit only. :/

Happened when iwas about to win each time.

i agree it sucks to play with sucky ppl. and to live in detroit.

but you can teach them to be better. and you can always move out of detroit.

protoss: do the sentry guardian shields stack if i bunch them all together? e.g. unit inside 2 overlapping shields gets +4 armor.

If they did, any toss who isn't rushed to death would just chronoboost out sentries and win as soon as they had five or so. :D
So no.
