Does anyone else getting lots of slow downs in game for lag? I have a fast connection, is it limited to other players connection..or pure battle.net congestion? Every game i play that "waiting on player" message comes up every few minutes.

I hate battle.net, its so terribly designed. I wish they would just move everything over to steam. lol

it's lag for other players. it's designed so that if your connection sucks, you still won't be at much of a disadvantage. which is good, because in my two-apartment "house", the other apartment shares our internet and downloads indiscriminately. fuckers.

Put a password on your router.

I mean, the actual internet connection to the house (which is split into two apartments) is shared. There's nothing I can do, each room has its own cable modem, but the source for internet is still shared. I think we were going to contact the internet company but I really don't think there's anything we can do about it.

Wow didnt know "you have been dropped from the game" is hack.
I played 3v3 random and we met same 3 guys(friends). Won both and got "dropped" message twice in a row.
Where do I report this to?

btw really dont matter what league you are in. There are always horrible players that got carried by other good players.

I'm on Diamond in all 1v1 2v2 3v3 and 4v4
was ranked #1 on 2v2 and 3v3 on my league but hard to keep up when you are playing all 4 different matches.
Wish we can connect to asia server. Want to play korean players online.

I really like 4vs4. I'm doing pretty good in that, i'm sure the team is pulling the weight of the wins naturally. Platnum 2 losses 8 wins so far. hehe

Its great because people can't really have time to build up masses units. Its all out war.

In the match history you can select the player(s) you think were hacking and report them. Not sure how it works in larger games 3v3 etc since you don't know which one was actually doing the hack etc.

you must have played some strange 1v1's. In 3v3 and 4v4 it's easier to mass units than 1v1... by far. It's also home to the full team zealot rushes and early cheeses. Or the 3 players make mineral only units and funnel their gas to a 4th who just masses BC's/VR's style of play.

wow. just won a 1v1 league game which I should have lost. Was basically dead but opponent for no apparent reason let me rebuild and I won thanks to colossi. (PvP). Was fun watching all his stalkers go up in flames.
Just reminded me not leave too early even if you think you lost (or will lose in the long run).

But must admit did some kind of all-in move, just expanding in some far corner on kulas ravine (we were in close-positions) because he kept harassing me with early blink stalkers. (meaning natural would be a pain to defend)
It's funny, this works so often on bigger maps even in platinum league. people scout so poorly (me too...). He also tried to attack through back door rocks but my observer was following his army.

terran players, how many production facilities can 1 maxed out base support?
include combinations of rax, factory, starport.
e.g. 4 barracks (3 tech labs 1 reactor)
or 2 rax (1 tech 1 reactor), 1 factory, 1 starport

i find myself struggling to support 4 rax (3 tech, 1 reactor) with 1 fully mining base (mostly mineral limited, i have surplus of gas) and i think i have at least 25-30 scvs.

I have to say that I haven't read the first 26 pages, but does anyone play play custom maps? I love tug of war style games, mostly Nexus Wars and Colonial Line Defense, the latter of which is fairly balanced and is very in-depth in strategy.

For the diamond players here... how many games/wins did it take you to move up from platinum to diamond?

Usually off of one base I can get
(Rax, Factory, Starport)
3+2, 0, 0 - 2 techlabs 1 reactor
3+1, 1, 1 - factory is used to make a reactor for starport and not much else.
2, 2, 1 - reactor on starport usually the others vary
1, 2, 2
3, 1, 1 - if spamming marines and saving gas for tank/medivac or tank/viking

generally you can only support 3+ starports or factories with 2 bases, 3 starports on 1 base doesn't work very well, same with factories, unless you are spamming hellions(never seen this)

if you get matched against diamonds and beat them, it could happen faster.
keep beating people at your level or lower, then it might take longer.

it was somewhere on my 15th to 20th game (went 5-0 in placement and then was around 14-6 when i got promoted), but i think it really depends on the level of players you get matched up against.
i was on a 7 game win streak against diamonds, then lost 3 straight (against a couple of diamond/plat), then won 1 more against platinum and got in. it was strange.

i don't get it.
you can only support 3 rax which build lower cost units, but you can support a mixture of 5 buildings of higher level units?

Sorry Probably should have explained more, this is just from my experiences so far.

the 3 rax can turn into a 5 rax very easily as well but most of the time I have a 2nd expansion up at the same time I am transitioning to 5 rax so I didn't include it really. I tend to expand quickly off of 3rax.

But I should have listed it as 3+2/0/0 or 3+1/1/1 where I don't use much out of the factory. Use the factory to make a reactor and drop a starport at the same time, swap them when done and make some medivacs and go heavy infantry.

Most of the builds are that way, I could probably put more rax down in every build I listed but by the time I do I also have a 2nd expand down.

The builds where I have factories and/or starports are possible because the rax are just making marines constantly and not spending gas. Gas is the limiting factor on all the builds. So I spend what I can on gas heavy units from the factories/starports and the minerals get dumped to the marines or upgrades.

I'm not flawless though so I may be wrong/underestimating what I can do off of one base.

Hopefully that makes sense.

makes sense.

so are you a terran only/primary player?
i think i want to focus on terran as it's my best race, but i play random and got into plat/diamond.
but to climb the ladder as random is hard, so i've heard, and the advice is to focus on one race.

from strongest to weakest for me: terran > protoss >>>> zerg

i need some strats for mid-late game terran in the diamond level because most of the lower level games i've played so far, i can get by with MMM and games usually end within 10-15 mins.
i don't think this is going to cut the mustard in diamond.

Yea I play Terran when doing 1v1, just don't have enough experience with the others yet and I do random a lot during team games as they are just for fun with my friends. Zerg are crazy fun to play but I'm not too great at it.

Vs Terran

mid-late game is generally a tank + viking war where whoever has air superiority wins. Use the vikings to allow the tanks to see farther/take out their vikings and inch forward.

Or you can tech to cloak banshees + vikes + some infantry and use the banshees to take out their tanks and the vikes to eliminate other air threats. Just gotta be careful of detection. Banshees are also great for harassing early-mid game vs other Terran.

Vs zerg
I try to go heavy mech and end it early. So usually tanks/thors/hellions(not a ton) with some marines thrown in. Problem is that if they get muta's fast it can become a pain in the ass protecting everything at once so I pressure them into having to defend.

vs Toss (my weakest matchup)
I generally go mas infantry with some ghosts thrown in. Medivacs to support the bio units and ghosts for the emp. Just have to watch for psi storms and good colossi/forcefield micro. I've also seen banshees + bio units being very effective vs toss. Bring a raven with your units to eliminate observers and the banshees can roast big armor targets. Also PDD shoots down stalker shots which is incredibly useful.

I just try to watch as many pro casts and games as I can and learn from some of the stuff that they do.

Interesting. For you, it seems like there's a magical ELO barrier that once you break, you rise in rank. So far, I've been winning about +40 per win and losing 3 to 4 per loss. Assuming +40 per win, you've got like... 560 - 20...

I never even knew there was a diamond until this week. I was playing some 1v1s, watching replays, and then when looking in match history, they were DIAMOND RANKED WTF????

So far, placement matches aside, I've won 3 and lost 5 or 6. Only one of the wins was a platinum player, the rest of my matches were all diamond matches, but the one platinum guy I played was TERRIBLE.

After that match, I became determined to get myself into diamond. I'm on par with the people I've played, I lost because of inexperience and a lot of stupid mistakes (bad marauder micro, getting my first sentry picked off, not fully blocking the ramp as P vs zerg speed lings).

yeah, i felt the same way. i think my win streak against diamond/plats kept boosting my score, and all i needed was 1 more win, but i lost my next 3.
just one more win, provided i didn't have a 5 game lose streak, guarantees my promotion to diamond.

getting into diamond was a lot easier to get into than i thought, and me being diamond is proof of that, haha.
i played a bunch of plats that i thought should've been golds or even silvers.
and some diamonds that felt more like platinums and golds etc.
i think the whole ranking thing is screwed up and overrated.

TvT is my worst matchup.
i always lose to whoever controls ground with tanks and infantry.

TvZ. i've been holding my own with MMMs against zerg. they absolutely own lings, roaches are tanks but do little dmg, and if they go hydras, tanks rape em.
ppl go mutas but they can never mass a huge number of them in time. when they do, they have 3-5 and their base is already torn to pieces by my MM's.

can u expound on why mech is preferred vs zerg?

TvP, same thing as TvZ. they always try to tech to colossus and will have a couple by the time i'm at their base. stim the marauders and focus fire on them FTW.

maybe these strats won't work in diamond?
