Good for LA. They kept their cool in Game 6 while NJ decided to get chippy and tried to hurt LA's goalie [Karma's a bitch and NJ will be tasting Karma's ass all Summer - I hate teams that have to stoop down to the point of trying to injure the other team's goalie].

Awesome series..well...games 1, 2, and 5.

SoCal...always winning something! Can't wait for USC and the Heisman front-runner Barkley!

I just wonder how much more will they add to the base before the rethink that strategy. unless that's as tall as it''s going to get and they just change the the base rings from time to time.

Simon Gagne is on that team? Wow I had no idea... he almost dropped it... too many names on there I guess.

Another name that had me thinking... Willie Mitchell 1.5 years ago decided to forego WSH and SJ to join LA thinking they had a good chance to win, and he wanted to stay out west... well played sir, well played.

Hextall finally gets pleasure of winning the Cup:

The Kings' assistant general manager finally has reached the mountaintop. He will get his name carved into the Stanley Cup. He can touch it, lift it, kiss it, drink from it. He has Cup carte blanche now that the Kings, a team Hextall helped build into champions by following the same methodology he learned in Philadelphia and that was good enough to get the Flyers close in '87 and '97, officially is the NHL's best in 2012.

Fcking awesome!

And of course this made me chuckle a bit:
'Flyers of the West' are now Cup champs

Maybe the championship banner the Kings will unfurl next season should have a twinge of orange in it somewhere, too?

"They're the only team other than the Flyers that I like and want to see win," Clarke said.

They've been removing base rings for years. The removed ones are in the HOF

Congrats LA, but as a fan I feel a little cheated that the cup game was decided on one player's brain fart. At least he could have waited to lose his mind in the third OT.

Tough way for NJ to lose last night with that 5 minute major... At least the Flyer fans are crying too.

Ohwell, props to LA. Enjoy your time with the Cup since you're only borrowing it. Next season it returns home to Boston!

Yes, b/c we're so upset that Hextall is now on the Cup. And Richards, who was my fav Captain.

lol, assistant general managers get their name on the cup? What a joke.
Pretty much. Last year Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs had his wife and kid's names (Margaret &, Louis, & Jerry) added along with the team. Charlie Jacobs has been a VP for years.

The only thing original on the cup anymore is the actual cup. Whncih of course was supplied by the wife of Lord Stanley for the first Stanley cup

Even the cup isn't original anymore, the original was too fragile so they made a reproduction in the 60s. That's what they award now. The original is at the hockey hall of fame. There's also a third cup that they display at the hockey hall of fame when the current cup is somewhere else.

It's still the greatest trophy in all of sports.

that's pretty ridiculous... good thing not many know about that kind of thing. It's also amazing how some players are on there contributing next to nothing right beside someone who battled like a warrior through 16 postseason wins.

Didn't know Bergeron has a hyphenated name.

Another note - it's just depressing... so many young stars of his generation are quickly on the cup but he isn't. Malkin, Crosby, Letang, Toews, Kane, Seguin, Bergeron, Kopitar, Richards, Carter, Doughty, Staal. Such is part luck of the draw. Of course I'm talking about Ovie.

oooh man, my friend who is a major hockey fan just started working for the kings this year.

one of the greatest days of his life hah. got mad pix of the cup on his FB page.

Congratulations, LA. Fantastic postseason, well deserved.

9 seasons, 9 different Stanley Cup champions. That's a bit amazing. That's the first time it's ever happened in one of the four major sports. I wonder if we'll see that go to 10 next year.
