TBF, neither Quick (.929) nor King Henrik (.930) were even close to TT's .938% 2 years ago when he set the record. Looney Tunes TT had a Looney Tune of a season also setting most saves in the postseason, least goals allowed in the SCF and best save % in the SCF. We'll probably never seen anything like again that in our lifetimes.

Yeah but Quick's playoff save % was an even more ridiculous .948 or something like that. Just obscene. And his goals against was like 1.3. A lot of night his defense was gelling and his forwards were forechecking so he was only seeing like 18-24 shots, but still. Obscene.

Yeah he was great in the postseason. Still not as good as TT or he would have broken TT's record, and Henrik's reg season save% was still better (barely).

The Schneider deal pretty much confirms that Luongo is on his way out. Unless they want to have $9M tied up in goalies. Even with this deal I think the Nuks have about $10M in cap space.

Quick is an interesting contract. Guy is money but the length is what bothers me, especially for a goalie.

Crosby's new contract is another interesting one. Healthy he is worth cap max allowed but can he stay healthy?

I wonder if the new CBA will go towards the idea that the cap hit isn't the contract average but how much a player is actually paid during the season.

Quick was kind of a contract they had to do, although I agree that the length is a bit crazy, I would have offered 7 years tops. Also keep in mind this type of thing happens in sports a lot where players are paid big money after they win a championship as a type of reward. We've seen mega extensions/resigns with players in other sports for bringing in a championship like Ryan Howard, Matt Cain, Dustin Pedroia, Eli Manning, and smaller but rewarding ones like Tom Coughlin, Lance Berkman and Brad Marchand. I don't see any problem with this if they were instrumental in winning a championship unless it's way over the top like the Ryan Howard deal.

The Crosby deal, they can nix after 7 years if he retires due to health injuries which I like. He wasn't paid an insane amount so it was a fair deal for both sides given his past and the fact he's still young and in his prime.

It'd be nice to see the CBA do an actual year cap hit to prevent teams from front loading to gain a competitive advantage and then hiding behind the contract average to soften the cap blow. This is sorely needed.

The length is definitely very bad for his play style. That said, $5.8M is a VERY friendly cap hit and is ultimately better than 6-7 years at $6.8M+. Lundqvist was making around $6.9M, and Rinne was signed for $7M. And, I shouldn't even need to mention Bryzgalov for infinity years at $5.7M who isn't even in the ballpark w/ the aforementioned goalies. LA still has monies for a big UFA this year or next year now, or to just have a healthy cushion.

I can't believe they got quick that cheap. In fact, in comparison to crosby's salary, quick got ripped. Quick demonstrated this year he can not only single-handedly carry the kings to the playoffs, he can make them an almost unstoppable juggernaut when he's on his game. If the kings score 2-3 goals when he's on (and it seems like he's always on) they have like a 90% chance of winning.

Crosby hasn't demonstrated near that ability, and I certainly don't think he's worth double what quick is.

I don't know about that kind of commitment.

Nope, there will probably be a limit on contract term in the next CBA.

Minnesota is not a profitable team, and they just agreed to pay two players $44 million between now and next July.
 
This whole ultra long contracts thing is incredibly stupid, as the game changes, the composition of teams will need to change too. These long contracts stymie team's ability to adapt because the contracts generally aren't able to be traded.

The problem is that one guy offers one, the player won't look at anything else, thus other GMs have to offer them too, it's a race to the bottom.
 
Funny little side note - I was in the mood for a little nostalgia gaming so I downloaded NHL 94 (what a great game that was).

I decided to play a round of playoffs with my beloved Blackhawks, and within the first few shifts of my very first game I was steaming up the ice with Roenick when a D man comes out of nowhere and pulverizes him, knocking him out for the game.

It was none other than Niklas Lidstrom. I had to laugh out loud on that one.

I couldn't believe I actually saw a current player's name, and Lidstrom of all people. That guy really has played forever, hasn't he.
 
Preds got kind of screwed today. Suter said it finally came down to what was best for his family even though everything else was equal. He never mentioned location as being an issue before and everyone here feels like we've basically been lied to. This is the first time I can remember that we actually feel like the club did everything they could to sign a player and the player ended up being the 'bad guy'. Really disappointed today. If mgmt had known location was going to be an issue months ago then they would have handled things differently at the trade deadline.

It's too bad because this probably means they'll end up moving Weber because at the end of the day there is no way a team like the Preds can handle the blow of losing two stars to free agency without getting anything in return.

With that said, maybe at the end of the day we'll find out that signing a guy to 13y/$90+ mil contract would have been dumb anyway.

I think more than location, Parise and Suter wanted to play together. Parise said they talked about it during the season. He says he really didn't like the comparisons to LeBron, but the comparison is pretty accurate.

I just wish had done it on July 1. It would have been nice to have a shot at P.A. Parenteau. Everyone says he benefitted from playing with Tavares, but I think he could play just as well with Kovalchuk and Zajac.

I think Preds fans would have been okay with all of that had the factor of location/other players been known. We could have got something for him instead of having nothing now. I know it happens all the time but we just don't have the resources available to absorb that kind of hit. Also, one difference in this situation vs. Lebron is that the Preds ownership is finally able to spend money and make moves. We were very active at the deadline and did about as much as we could to get pieces together for a run. It just didn't turn out very well.

It just seems to boil down to a lack of honesty somewhere. I don't know where exactly but I think most fans would have felt a lot better 6 months ago knowing he had no intention of ever signing with us again as opposed to what just happened.

If you think Preds got screwed today just think how the Ducks must feel. Losing a 21 year old prospect and getting nothing in return, that really sucks.

Your team just really needs to get used to the fact that unless it has the financial capacity to keep the amazing talent it cultivates once they leave their ELCs and stop being RFAs, they're going to keep giving away their talent.

The reality is that at the end of the day other teams offer a comparable environment to Nashville and can pay more. That leaves Nashville at a serious disadvantage sadly.

Its hard to feel bad for the ducks with all the other terrible moves they've made. Trading Visnovsky for basically nothing and then signing Souray and Allen to terrible contracts, especially the Souray deal when this time last year nobody wanted the guy at all. He has a half a decent half of a season and gets a stupid contract. Thats FA for ya. And they'll probably lose Bobby Ryan so there is more to come for them I'm sure.

Sherm definitely looks like one of the smartest GM's in the room knowing that Parise would command a stupid contract and to jump on PAP right out of the gate.

Semin will command a stupid contract too.

Yzerman has joined the Feaster and Howson list of dumbest GM's in the room IMO with his overpayment for Carle and need to sign every FA d-man out there
 
Try being a Dallas fan. 🙁 You hear the GM say he's rebuilding the team and is looking to bring in youth and he gets rid of two early 30 somethings, that are fan favs, and in return he brings in two 40 year olds for 1 and 2 year deals. Our GM is a completely incompitent twat.
