Why, because the Devils got incredibly lucky last year and lost Parise, their best all around player. Yes, better than Kovi.

Fuck that.

The Rangers yes, the Flyers and Pens are also much better. The Devils will be the clear underdog going into the season.
 
As a flyers fan and preds fan no harm done, would have loved to see him in orange and black but getting to see the cannon from the blue line live is amazing.

Nor is it even possible to replace Parise. They couldn't even in a good FA year.

Semin would be a good piece but that is the only piece avaiable that could potentially replace Parise. And even then it only replaces his scoring, not his defense or his leadership

Could we stop referring to people as "pieces?" It just sounds so stupid.

If the Devils get Semin and we get the real Tallinder back (or trade him for forward depth), I'm not too worried about this year.

I'd hate to have that guy on the Bruins. So inconsistent and disinterested. He can snipe with the best of 'em but, damn...

We'll see when you guys are a lottery team again, as you were the year before this.

Luckily you were able to acquire Adam Larsson, he will be a good piece moving forward for you guys

The Devils missed the playoffs in 2011 for the first time in 15 years. They started the season with a bad coach and had the worst record in the NHL by December. After replacing MacLean they had one of the best records in the league the second half of the season without Parise.

I'm sure they're going to go right back to being a lottery team.

When I see them not suck I will not whine.

I'm kinda hopeful about this season now....but the defense is still going to suck. The only change there was bringing Joe Corvo back of all people.

Maybe with the top 6 now rounded out in a decent fashion that won't be as important

I'm half laughing about Semin cause he's torched Carolina throughout the years unmercifully. Now he will torch the Caps multiple times this year. Oy vey.

I don't know why Carolina though - was he that desperate? There is absolutely no fit there. He needs at least another russian dude like him or at least a coach. He speaks English fine when he wants to but he's going to be a hermit with nobody around. WTF is in Carolina?

Regardless, I think Semin's misunderstood and given an unfair rap especially after the last year or so - he was no longer taking ANY stupid penalties and back checked more than MOST of the team. He was like top 3 in the league in +/- the last few years according to a stat I saw too. Even if he doesn't produce, it does NOT mean he's lazy or doesn't care. I wish him well.
