Dude you were absolutely killin it. I was sucking because I was so freakin tired. Earlier in the day I had a decent ratio but it was really bad the last 2 or 3 hours. I think we won every round though.

I should be up for some MP tonight after I work on the wife's car.

Personally, I think all guns (at least, assault) are pretty even. Their stats balance out, and most of my kills last night were from working on the M4. I only have the FMJ and camo challenges left for it. I started working on the TAR21 - that one is fun too. I'm also trying the MP5K but damn it's frustrating at range - sometimes it's too jumpy, and other times it's damn accurate. The Intervention sniper rifle is pretty sweet - that + PP2k make for a sick combo. I still haven't figured how to melee with the shield though.

So I can't seem to find any info about online stat tracking, I'm assuming it doesn't exist. How can IW completely gloss this over? What are the point of accolades if you can't show them off to friends online?

I guess it's something that could be implemented at a later time if Activision decides to.

Not a huge deal, but I was hoping to see some stat tracking. It's what makes Halo 3 and Battlefield 2/2142 so intriguing... in depth online stats that you can compare to other people

The tar 21 is great at medium range...it's even stronger than the scar, but it loses accuracy after the first few shots really badly.

You have to treat the mp5k differently than the old mp5. It's ridiculously inaccurate at range, but good close up.

The melee with the shield is the same as the knife, just it's really short range and takes two hits. Commando helps a ton, and you just have to learn to approach people slowly and carefully keeping your shield toward them. The blast shield helps a lot because since they know they can't shoot you, they're defintely going to nade you.

Ok...I was trying to hold off buying this because I've been so busy at work...but I think I'm going to break down tonight.

I have only played COD3 and I hated it.. the screenshots of this look ridiculously good and everyone seems to be really excited for it.

How similar is this to ghost recon? I'm looking for a really challenging/frustrating single player FPS that requires you to be tactical, should I pick this up? Is the solo campaign very long?

I know CoD1 and 2 were based on Q3A's engine... but MW1/2?

Internally, Infinity Ward considers it a new engine (dubbed IW 4.0). That said, the fine print blurb when you boot the game up mentions "technology licensed from id Software" which I just noticed today for the first time. So I guess even MW2 has some id Tech buried in it somewhere (maybe some of the new id Tech 4/Doom 3 engine).

this is not similar to ghost recon AT ALL.

ghost recon is like a tortoise, and this game is like a cheetah.

solo campaign is extremely short.

Campaign is about 5 hours on normal, about 7-8 on hard. It's not similar to Ghost Recon in any way, shape, or form. Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six are much, MUCH slower paced. MW2 is like a high-speed version of Counter-Strike, if anything. Think about movies like The Rock and The Peacemaker and you'll pretty much have an idea of what the game is like. Their are some levels that allow you to be tactical and stealthy but as a whole it's a high-adrenaline action game.

No, you're not going to get anywhere close to being tactical like in Ghost Recon. The entire single player is almost on rails, you're funneled down tight paths most of the time, and most of the time it is a hail of gunfire everywhere. The campaign clocks in right around 5 hours on easiest difficulty for most people.

Doesn't sound like your type of game at all.

that's a bummer, I'm not really big on multiplayer fps games since I don't really like being called a n***** by some pre-pubescent 13 year old and killed almost instantly after spawning. I was hoping it would have a lengthy solo campaign.

Finished the game on hardened in 6:30. The only 2 spots that gave me grief were the Favela and of course defending the house while the computer downloaded. I just needed to find the right spot.

I told myself I wasn't going to try to beat this on Veteran like I did with MW1 because it was so frustrating, but this game was 5x easier than MW1.

Just scratched the surface with MP, I am getting my ass kicked after not playing MW1 for over a year.

Is anyone going prestige? I did 2 levels of it last time and gave up because I thought it was stupid. I heard there was going to be a reward for going prestige?

It has a spec ops mode that might interest you that you can play single player. I haven't tried it yet but you could do a search for it.

My next goal is to get a nuke. Ive been able to get an ac-130 somewhat regularly by getting 5 kills, dropping a predator, which is a fairly reliable two kills. Then a harrier, which usually gets 3-4 kills unless someone shoots it down. Then at 11, its AC130 time. I've definitely gotten 14 kills off one in ground war on an open map. I figure if I skip the predator and start the killstreak at 7 for harrier it might actually happen, but damn 7 kills is hard to get.

Its also ridiculously easy to shoot down killstreaks before they do any real damage, but so few people carry around launchers. I have a feeling thats going to change pretty soon once people realize the advantage you give to your whole team by carrying a stinger.

The nuke would be cool to do... once. But it seems like you'd be hurting yourself and your team a lot by replacing a useful killstreak bonus with the nuke.

I hated the Favela so very much... at the point where you see the guy running away and it says you're supposed to capture him, I thought I had to start rushing or he'd get away. I died so many times trying to rush through that part. Once I slowed down it got a lot easier.

The "No Russian" campaign was something else, can't say it was the game's finest moment because of the carnage and ending. Kinda like Left 4 Dead except they are not zombies.

Yep, exactly. I just want to do it so I can say I've actually done it. When I was on the receiving end, it was such an awesome moment, with the countdown and everything.

Overall though, the ac-130 is the most devastating killstreak, but I don't think most people realize it has 3 guns, not just the one huge cannon. So there's no real reload delay if you keep swapping guns, and it's no problem to pretty much own the entire map.

In a week or two, once everyone starts unlocking stingers and javelins, I have a feeling killstreaks are going to go down much quicker.

can someone explain to me the difference between the holographic scope and the red dot?

i swear the holographic was virtually identical to the red dot.

I think it is just that you can see through the holographic dot. It helps a little when aiming at someone very far away. The red dot used to completely obscure them. I don't see it as much better though.

Against my better judgment, I picked up this game last night. And just like MW1 this game pisses me off. I must just not get this game/engine. I'm not bad at FPSes. I'm definitely better on the kb/m than I am on a controller, but I can usually hold my own in other console FPSes I've played online. Just not this one.

It seems like so often, I come around a corner, open up on someone, and I can see them getting hit and blood flying. Often they just turn, look at me, shoot once or twice and I'm dead. Then in the killcam it looks like they didn't take any damage. Hell, sometimes it doesn't even look like I fired a shot. Is the killcam supposed to be accurate?

I want to like these games, but I just don't seem to be able to adjust to the playstyle.

that happens to me a lot as well on this game and has on all the previous COD games.

i think it is simply the net code or something, and it doesn't always happen to me.

if i see i'm in a match like that, i will simply leave.

btw what speed net are you on? i'm only on 3Mb dsl and I've attributed that to being part of the issue here.

The killcam almost always plays out slightly different thatn what you saw, since you're seeing it from their point of view. From their point of view, they may have killed you before you even got a shot off. It's the way pretty much all fps games have worked since they went online, everyone is slightly off from each other, but everyone is playing by the same rules so it's fair. In cod games at least, there's no fire or hit delay...unless your latency is really terrible, if you shoot him, he's dead. Perhaps you just need to adjust to the style of play.

There's also the problem that there's a huge mass of the player base that is already really, really good at the game. I can see it being really hard for new people to jump in without taking a savage beating for quite some time while they get up to speed. Single player does not really prepare you for multi in this game.

Is the PSN down for anyone else? After I downloaded the software update today, it just sits on the "Gathering stats" update box after it connects to the matchmaking server. I reset the cable modem and the internet is running fine, so I know it isn't that. I guess the servers are just bogged from people updating??

20Mb/768Kb Qwest DSL

well we're both on DSL, wonder if that has anything to do w/it heh.

and BD2003 this issue on COD is not like other FPS. this is different.

i've even seen issues like BoberFett described, where in the kill cam, it doesnt even have me aiming at him, but aiming to the side of him and shooting, which is why none of my shots killed/hit him in the 'real world' even though on my screen, i was aiming dead at him before he even turned and looked.
