99% of users don't take iPad on vacation and want to upload files from their camera SD card or want to drive Netflix to a big screen TV?

As I stated in my edited post above, even after buying the necessary HDMI and card reader add-ons, the iPad 2 is priced almost the same as the Xoom.

If you want to view files on a big screen, or Netflix, adding in the HDMI cable won't be more costly than using a Xoom tablet. The only thing would be viewing pictures taken on a pocket or point & shoot camera on your iPad. This would be easier with an integrated card reader. But again, even buying such an add-on would not make the ipad 2 priced above a Xoom.

i'm not in the market for a new iphone, ipad or any idevice. But I can honestly say, apple has got a lot right going for them... Enough for the majority of the world to hone in and listen to what that CEO has to say about their next product.

Funny, MBP's doesn't need a SSD to feel like it's running off of one. And when you add one in, it just makes loading heavy apps quicker. Apple really has some high efficiency going.

Oh well, it was a nice try Android tabs, but with the new iPad at the same price as their first gen, and with a better form factor and specs, their gooses are cooked. Only way they can be successful now is if they gut their prices, and that means a Xoom for $400 or less.

The original iPad outsold Android tablets and they went up in price with the Xoom.

Let's see... how many Android tablets were out when the iPad came out? Hmm? I'm gonna go with "duh" as a reply to that one.

In other news, iPad 2 has too much bezel (still), lack of new features, same crappy OS, and is still overpriced (no, I'm not arguing that current Android tablets aren't overpriced, because they are).

Yet another month of rabid apple zealotry for yet another "new and innovative apple product that's not" to deal with. Yay.

By Q4 2011 we will see sub-$400 Chinese Xoom knockoffs, but until then the iPad rules. Looks like I am gonna get an iPad 2 for the wife seeing as how she wants a tablet before then.

No hi-res screen. No iPad 2 for me. See you next year when the ipad 3 hits. Assuming an Android tablet doesn't hit with my required specs before then and at a palatable price. I stated this was one of my major requirements for a tablet and I'm sticking to my word.

Engadget post comparing the known hardware specs of the ipad vs iPad 2.

I'd pencil in 512MB of RAM to match that of the iPhone 4. Never understood why the iPad only had 256MB of RAM.

Interestingly enough, the iPad 2 has a quad-band EDGE chip and not tri-band. Does this mean it works on T-Mobile's 3G network? And I don't understand why the baseband chip is not compatible with both GSM and CDMA. Apple is obviously using Qualcomm chips in some products after all and Qualcomm has a baseband chip capable of both.

Just curious, what do you want a hi-res screen for?

The one thing that may come about from all this brouhaha is I may get a cheap 2nd hand iPad (Gen1) to dick around with eventually. It'll be nice to have a larger format portable Netflix player around for cheap.

I for one won't use an ipad only because i don't like the app store rules.

Nook color is enough for me.

But >99% of buyers don't care about the app store rules, or that it doesn't have a 1080p display, for $500 this thing will dominate... or, to be more precise, it'll continue to dominate. Motorola and the rest had a chance to get their foot in the door, but Apple just slammed it shut in their faces, again.

And no, I don't own other Apple things, except my phone, but I'll sure as hell be buying a $429 iPad 2 (when they hit the refurb store).

I completely agree that 99% of consumers don't care about the rules. Doesn't mean that I will buy one. To be honest I really really don't need a tablet at all, just the nook is an incredible device for $250.

I have given the Ipad a good try but really for $500 it was far too expensive for a device I rarely used.(Got one from work but gave it back)

Amen to that, they should have guessed that this was coming and started their tab at $400.

I agree, that's why I jumped on one for $200. It'll be fun to play with until the iPad 2 hits the outlet store.

Memphis and Little Rock craigslist already has multiple ipads, people trying to sell before the masses find out lol

Just curious, what do you want a hi-res screen for?

Playing games. Viewing images. Reading books. Keeping in mind none of these require a higher resolution display it just looks so much nicer. For games, I notice a lot of jaggies in games like Infinity Blade. A higher resolution display would help solve or allay this as I don't believe the GPU's used in the iPad 1 or 2 support anti-aliasing. In the case of reading books, my iPhone 4 provides a much more pleasant reading experience since text seems so much more crisp compared to my older iPhone. I find I can read longer on it without as much eye fatigue.

The iPad is mostly a media consumption device. I agree with others that while the uses for an iPad is growing as a work tool, it's mostly used as a delivery medium for content. I want the content I view to look as good as possible.
