So to update my issues with the Galaxy Nexus speeds, I got an HTC Evo 4G LTE instead and get 2mbps down 1mbps up on 3G with sprint, compared to the Galaxy Nexus 150kbps.

I guess it was just the radios, too bad because I really liked the Galaxy Nexus.

Maybe I can get the next Nexus.

Hi guys, I am running stock 4.0.2 on Verizon. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get my Windows machine to *fully* see all the folders on my GN, when connected via USB. I have the Samsung drivers installed and I can see most of the files but using a file explorer on the GN itself, I know things are hidden, such as the folders of certain applications. I tried switching between MTP and the other mode (I forgot the name) but neither will show me a full view of my files and folders. Any help would be appreciated.

You should be able to see anything in the "sdcard" portion of the storage when connected to a pc. If it's there on the file browser phone and you can't see it on the computer try downloading sdrescan from the store and using that before you hook up the device to your computer.

Yeah you can only see things on the sdcard partition (it's not a physical SD card on the GN of course). If you want to see stuff elsewhere you will need to root it and use Root Explorer or ES File Explorer on your phone.

I just installed SD Rescan but couldn't use it because it is not ICS compatible. I can't see any of the UI at all.

Here are some examples on things on the sdcard that I can see using an Android file explorer but not visible through Windows 7:

amazonmp3
Autodesk
Box
kindle
MinimalisticTextPreferences
mycoffeecard

etc.

Did you search for sdrescan, one word? The one made by Benjamin Rosseaux. I have that on my Galaxy Nexus and it works just fine.

Weird. There's another called Rescan Media, maybe give that a shot.

Tested it out for you btw, I downloaded amazonmp3, it didn't show. Ran sdrescan, it shows. So if you find one that works, you should be good.

There are also one or two apps called Scan Media that should do the same thing.

Not sure why rescanning the SD card isn't a built in option in the OS but whatever.

Tried both Scan Media and Rescan Media. They seem to work fine doing their thing but nothing (extra) shows up. In other words, I have the same issue still. I am not sure what I could be doing wrong.

How did you guys block the mandatory 4.0.4 verizon update?

I have been on 4.0.4 for the past 2 months ( rooted) using axiom cross bread m2 and
Have been happy with the rom.

Keep getting prompts every 5 min to update. I guess the developer did not block the ota update.

Don't want to mess around with the phone since I am oversees and not coming home for another 2 weeks.

Do you guys know what service to freeze or file to rename?

Few Google searches does not come up with anything relevant.

Thanks

Is the "gradually increasing to normal brightness" on the lock screen a new and normal feature? Can I not turn it off? It's really annoying and I think it's giving me a motion sickness/light headed like effect

I'm not sure, and didn't get any hits on a few quick Google searches. Maybe post in the rom's support thread at RW or XDA? A ROM developer should know well enough to block OTAs.

I have been rooted and running a custom rom since I got my Nexus, never had an ota prompt.
On a side note, I just got an acer A100 yesterday & it updated 3 times, the last being ics. Runs like a dream and almost a stock ics experience.

Anyone here using the GN unlocked version on T-Mobile?

Contract with Sprint just ended. Debating on going to GN unlocked GSM w/ T-Mobile (month to month contract) versus resigning for 2 years on another phone or carrier... though the Samsung Galaxy S3 looks absolutely delicious

Paranoid Android ROM is amazing. I love the tablet feel and the dpi per app.

The buttons on the bottom maybe small for some of y'all.

I have been seriously considering Paranoid, but just not sure.

I've really been liking AOKP (on b36 right now), which was also my first AOKP release to flash on my phone.
I should probably try the tablet-mode mod for AOKP (with a backup) just to see if I'd even like that approach on this screen size, or even on my phone in general. I have just gotten so used to and love the notification shade and bar that moving it down, for my phone (I do have a CM9 nightly on my Nook Color with proper tablet style) to the bottom, just seems so wrong. 😛

But yet, so right.
:hmm:

Ever use AOKP much? How does the various tweaks and included mods in Paranoid (as a CM9-based wrong, ignoring the tablet/hybrid approach for the moment) compare to AOKP (which also includes a bunch of CM9-sourced tweaks, among many others) ?

I was on AOKP before this. Just flashed today and I love it

I love how I get more room for the screen. The keyboard is made smaller by the dictionary thing being smaller so I can see better (where as the the normal keyboard took up like half the space)

The notification at the bottom took some time getting used to. But its neat. The only thing I don't like is the recent app lag I get.

Anyone here using the GN unlocked version on T-Mobile?
Just went from Thunderbolt on Verizon to an unlocked GN from Google on T-Mobile. Am quite pleased with the phone and the service. That said, T-Mobile's customer service sucked royally when trying to get a SIM card and the WalMart/online $30/month rate for 100min, unlimited text and 5GB of data.

Here is a list of things to watch out for:
1) Do not go to any B&M T-Mobile stores if you want plans that are not offered in store (this includes online only plans on T-Mobile's website). They have SIM activation kits there, but will not sell them unless you activate it in store (after being able to only select the plans they have in the B&M store).
2) WalMart can/do not sell SIM activation kits alone, but they sell phone kits that have a SIM activation kit inside. I bought a $20 phone kit, but the SIM activation kit would not activate and the T-Mobile CSR online chat rep stated I needed to pay an extra $36 in fees to fix their issue with the activation kit. The rep also berated me for not having the WalMart rep activate the phone before leaving store even though the phone kits are packaged for IN-HOME activation. Told T-Mobile CSR rep to pound sand. Returned the phone kit to WalMart and bought the $30 phone kit (to avoid the potential risk of all the $20 kits being bad) and after telling whole story to the WalMart rep, she activated it in store for me. Was no issues after that and left store, took out SIM card in the $30 phone, put it in my GN and tossed the $30 phone.
3) For any prepaid T-Mobile plans, they enabled the "optional" Web Guard feature. Basically it is a parental controlled filter that likes to sometimes block Facebook and other sites randomly. Have to jump through hoops to get his disabled

AOKP b37 for the Sprint GNex has been surprisingly solid for me--no crashes or hangs at all. Coupled with an OEM 2100mAh extended battery from Verizon for $25 which works in the Sprint version, I love this phone.

The only thing I don't like is the slower camera speed--no tapping the button to take 5 pictures in rapid succession in this ROM.
