The demo's up

I like it, the cars feel less twitchy than Forza2 and the presentation is perfect, game play is as smooth as butter

but I dont think the incar views are as detailed as GT5: Prologue

AI is good, noticed a few cars running wide

Wow... demo is a PITA to locate. Not under New Arrivals. Had to go to All Demos > Racing > Forza 3 > All Downloads > Scroll my ass off > Demo

Just finished a race. WOW. Right off the bat, this is really a step forward from Forza 2. I've been a hardcore Forza fan since the original, but there were some things that really irked me about Forza 2 that caused me to doubt whether Turn 10 could provide another franchise offering for the 360. But the jaggies on the cars are 99% fixed, the graphics are definitely improved and FINALLY have a little personality without sacrificing the "true reality" Turn 10 has been striving for, and I'm totally digging the UI and sound. I feel very much "one" with the game :) . You'll see what I mean when you try it.

It was very smart of them to pre-tune the cars in the demo. Forza 2's demo was unforgiving to the newcomer or casual driver. I drove the C-class Lancer Evo.10 and it was very well-tuned. I think people have been turned off by Forza's brutal driving physics in the past if they didn't know how to tune a car (or didn't realize their car drove like ass due to lack of tuning). While the tuning is what keeps me playing the game (artists have their liveries, I have my garage), I think this will do wonders for the game's accessibility while still leaving room for the gearheads like me to squeeze a little extra out of the cars if we know what we're doing.

Can't wait for the full release.

The interiors are less detailed than I had hoped for. I can't believe it cuts the FPS in half just to render these low-res textured things. Also, no shift animation?

Other than that I really like it so far. The cars actually feel as though they have some weight to them now, unlike in Forza 2 where all the cars felt like you were driving a pillow with butter pats for wheels.

Yeah, the interior view isn't quite what I had hoped for, but as a pure racer, I prefer the default view anyway since it provides the most information. I have to give the nod to NFS:Shift when it comes to interior views. Hard to say that knowing someone spent the last 2 years of their life modeling the interiors of 400+ vehicles :( .

Most sequels either cater to an existing fan base or they try to bring in new fans at the risk of alienating existing ones. Granted, the demo is a very small slice of the game, my impression thus far is that there is no risk of alienating those who loved Forzas 1 and 2, yet it's sure to increase accessibility to the casual racer. I urge anyone who's enjoyed NFS:Shift to at least rent the game when it comes out. If you like Shift, I don't see how you could possibly not like Forza 3.

I'm excited to try the demo. Unfortunately I'll probably have to wait until Saturday or Sunday to do so. :(

They've also really improved the sense of speed. Hopefully this inspires more racing in the lower classes (D and C). I've always LOVED racing D and C. It seems like those races boil down to the best driving and the best tuning, whereas the upper classes it's more about who can keep their damn car on the track and not get flung off by someone who doesn't know when to brake.

Driving the little Mini C is a blast!

Oh.My.God.

This game is beyond awesome. I love NFS:Shift btw. And this game feels so amazing! The smoothness, the steering, the feel. Simply amazing! Two things though... cockpit is shit :p Not totally shit, but it's just bad imo (in line with other games besides Shift). Shift has it done properly. Forza3 didn't. And the feeling of speed. I'd rate Shift a wee bit better here, even though both games are doing an amazing job conveying the feeling :)

Day one for me.

MS wheel btw.

This right here is the key, IMO. Forza 2 was criticized for rendering at 30fps at the expense of a physics engine that ran at 60fps. The fidelity of the physics engine is the secret ingredient that only Forza has. Forza 3 is rendering at 60fps which makes it feel even smoother. I'm not sure if they've increased the physics sampling, but like you said, the game is just fucking butter. I don't know how else to put it!

It might of been me, but I swear I heard a car backfiring on the grid. Anyone seen flames come out of an exhaust? :p

Oh I'm glad the brake disc don't glow every time I slow down even in a Mini

PS: I think this rewind nonsense is catering for the casuals, they should have left it out (imo)

But still I love it!

Queued up! Looking forward to downloading this when I get home. Just wish my G25 wheel was compatible. I've got this pre-ordered along with COD:MW2 during the 2 for the price of 1.5 at Best Buy a couple of weeks back.

I know you're not insinuating a comparison between Shift and Forza 3. If anything, Shift copied the Forza formula (and poorly, I might add).

Did your demo come with a guy who stands behind you with a gun to your head forcing you to use the rewind?

My name is jbourne77, and I'm a Forza Fanboy :D

Well, a couple things then: 1) it's debatable whether or not such a feature automatically makes it "arcadey." I, for one, appreciate it since it's a great tool to use for mastering certain sections of a given track. Having trouble with the entry into corner 4? Well, now you can practice it over and over again without having to take an entire lap before your next shot at it. And 2) if you don't like it, don't use it.

I'm not trying to be bitchy or cranky; I've just never understood why people criticize optional features. This doesn't have to affect your experience one iota (though I think it will prove to be an invaluable learning/practice aide).

For what it's worth, kudos on the no assists  . I realized in Forza 2 that once you turn TCS and ABS off, it opens the doors to a LOT of tuning options and really aggressive driving. I like to attack corners, so disabling TCS and ABS is an absolute must for me... though I have to admit I still use an automatic tranny  . I know I'm missing out on uber acceleration, but I'm just not that coordinated :( .

hehe funny you would say that, i really don't see the need to turn off ABS in A class and up, I do think some car drives better as a controlled chaos in C class though (like the S14)...

After giving the demo some more time, I must say I am really excited about Forza 3. I tried not to hype myself up in the past 6 months and, aside from the terrible interior graphics, it's so far lived up to everything I tried not to hope for. This will be the first game I pay 59.99 for in a long time. I might even go for the collector's edition if Gamestop has any on the shelf.

Now that the gushing is out of the way, anybody else think the load times are a tad long? Also the textures on the cars seem rather bland during a race, like there's no details, just a big blob of shiny pixels.

SWEET - just posted a lap of 1:12.884 with the Lancer. That puts me in the top 1% (#372 out of 52,946)! Best lap is 1:09.993. Psycho.

Played this morning, couldn't get into it (because of the 2 lap long races). Finally discovered how to do hotlaps and it's a blast. Yes, the game feels MUCH smoother than Forza 2. As stoked as I was about using the in-car view, I don't like how it limits your vision (nor the overall "cheapness" of it) so I reverted back to my Forza 2 front bumber cam.

Ya know, I too was upset about the inclusion of the Rewind feature, but honestly it's not a bad thing. First, lap times that use rewind or go off road do not get posted to the leaderboard (took me a min to figure out the offroad part, no more corner cutters at RA's kink!). Next, I used it a few times to figure out two of the turns and it helped a good bit. Use it or not, it's up to you. Warning though, if you post a fast lap time and then rewind back past the end of said lap it erases your lap time, I found that out the hard way...thankfully I posted several faster times afterwards.

Currently sitting at #286 or so with the Porsche (almost down to 1:00 lap), the only car I've really put any time into. Not sure where the top guys are taking 2 seconds out of me.
