Depends on how far you're in the game. If you can kill the Admantortoise without shrouds, I'd say go for those. If you've spawned the Long Gui(s) by completing the circle of life, I would say farm Shaolong Gui for Gold Nuggets and 120k CP per fight. They can be brought down in about 2-4 minutes depending on your gear. If you've spawned the Long Gui and are maxed out on CP, but not Gil, simply go to Eden and farm that single Admantoise by reloading from the save point repeatedly.
You're making life very hard on yourself by not having Fang in your party as a Commando. Given her Strength gain end game, she can easily hit for 1.6 Mil+ damage per full ATB bar. She's also the second best Saboteur behind Vanille and as a Synergist has all the required buffs to make the party amazing.
I've been in Pulse for a couple hours now. I had trouble defeating Vanille's eidolon, so I decided I'd take this time to do some grinding and such. So, here's what I'm wondering. Around this point in the game, what party would you consider to be the best? And what would you recommend as the best way to grind? Just as an example of where I'm at, I can kill a king behemoth if it's a preemptive battle, cast haste right away, and beat on it (Com, rav, rav) until it dies. In this situation, I just barely kill it before it's stagger bar runs down (in which case it "transforms" and kills me in one hit shortly after).

I was kind of in your situation when i got to chapter 11 as well. A little unpowered but nothing to bad. What i did was proceed on with the story to the cave play (Ma'ha something....) right inside theres some bombs and robots. They weren't that hard at all. Run from the save point to where it splits left or straight and go left. Go all the way up to the big gate (be a group of like 5 robots right before it) then head back to the save point. Each "run" took maybe 15-20 minutes and was about 30k cp. probably could be faster but i just used com/sen/rav and smashed x as i browsed the web on my pc. I spent like a total of probably 4 hours there (but really actual grinding probably 2-3) and maxxed out the main role fo reach of my party and was able to proceed just fine from there on out.
As for best party...everyone will have their own opinions. I personally use lightning/fang/hope. Takes awhile to get the haste buff but meh i've done most fights without buffs/debuffs anyways. Also one thing to consider is upgrading your weapons at this point. You wont get max level or anythign but it does make a difference! assuming you have the weapon you want to max that is. For me taming pole and lionheart werent avaliable yet but soon as i got taming pole for fang i upgraded it to level 2 like level 27 or something just from crap i had in my inventory.
I've been grinding for like 1 hour and a half now after beating alexander, but I still can't even get past mission 3. I barely beat mission two . i'm wondering how much more cp I have to grind before it gets better.

You're going to need to have your characters with level 3 of all their main paradigms maxed out before things get "easier", which doesn't really take too long.
Of course, then you'll need to do more grinding for the bigger enemies.

Hmm, my main paradigms are already all lvl 3 with everything fully filled. Working on lvl 4 now, but it's annoying when I still get instahit bit by the wyvern or behemoth.
edit: Farmed rangda for 1 hour got like maybe 80k+ CP. Also, I think I actually walked into something that wasn't part of mission 3. I can do mission 3.
It took me 5 tries to beat him, the hardest part really is just understanding what makes the bar go up quickly.
edit: I still can't kill king behemoths for my life. I take down their health too quickly to stagger them before they stand up. with 650% stagger bar, it takes ages, and at some point they just use sunder on my leader and bam. dead.
I've already maxed out a couple lvl 4's now, but I still can't kill shit.

Yea, some of these Eidolons you don't need to damage them much or at all. Some you just need to survive while doing something to them.
As for killing King Behemoths, they are pretty easy if you have level 4s maxed. I mean, what paradigms are you using? You should be buffing yourself completely with your synergist before switching him to an offensive role, while a Sentinel takes damage, and a Saboteur slows and harms the guy. Heal up once in a while and go all out (Commando, Commando, Ravager or Commando, Ravager, Ravager) once you've laid on every buff on yourself and every curse on the King Behemoth and he should fall very quickly (and then get back up again, but his defenses drop significantly at that point so you should be able to swap being offense and heals to take him down quickly).

I used Libra on him, and the enemy info screen said that building chains was the way to go. So, I just buffed up with Synergist then when Rav/Rav until I had to heal. Then I'd switch to Com/Med.
The Eidolons do seem weird though. I had more trouble with Shiva than Odin. Not that I was close to dying. I just had trouble making the bar go up quickly.
So i jst finished the main story so ill post sort of an end of the main story review. Well for chapters 12 and 13 at least. the others can be found in this thread already.
So firs toff chapter 12...it was basically nothing really. Just a quick side note as you prep for the final chapter. Nothing overly exciting happened and there wasnt anything really exciting in it. but it is short so thats nice.
chapter 13 is a bit different than previous chapters. The scenery, first off, is more of a robotic world sort of setting. Still interesting just kind of weird at the same time. I didnt grind cp at all. I didnt grind gil either. I had basic level accessories and level 2 weapons that were maxed at level 2 (or close to it) so nothing special item wise. My character levels were pretty much maxed main role and max one other role and last tier on the third. nothing special really. There really wasnt a huge amount of trash which was nice. the trash there is was mostly single strong enemies. or a group of two stronger enemies. It goes by pretty quick with most areas having maybe 4-5 fights before moving on. Lots of treasure to found as well. As for the end
i found the first guy to be pretty easy. Buff up then just dps till he does his major attack. Rinse repeat. Was a bit challenging but nothing to hard. Orphan was kind of disappointing. I found him pretty easy at this point as it was basically the same sort of mechanics you found on previous bosses. The one thing i disliked was his stupid one shot ability. After lightning got hit by it two times in a row i looked up tips online and found the 3 +30% death resist item trick and well still died once with three of those one but the next time he was easily defeated. He was easy minus the one shot kill thing on lightning. orphan phase 2 was just a joke. Stagger, get to 999%, com/com/rav and he was at like 40% in one round, heal up, repeat and dead. Was sad it was that easy.
A few of my "end of game gripes"
- be nice if you could prioritize buffs. For instance i want hope to do haste, then defensive buffs then like faith/bravery. Sometimes he just kind of did them randomly it felt like when all i really wanted was protect/shell.
- one shot abilities on main characters (see my end boss spoiler if you want ot know what i mean). Its annoying when lightning dies but fang/hope are both at 100% but still game over
- overall difficulty. Some of the trash mobs were harder than bosses which is kind of lame. most of the bosses i was able to easily plow through without much difficulty. I know the missions and stuff will be hard but would have liked to have seen bosses maybe be a bit harder.
overall though it was great fun. i beat the main story in 44 hours. with ~4 hours grinding early chapter 11. and not always paying close attention. Looking forward to the end of game side quests!
Are the items (chipped fangs, worn leather, etc...) in the game only used for upgrading weapons?
In one of the tutorials it said that certain items might help upgrade certain weapons more than others, do you ever get any more info than that, or is it all trial and error based?
The guide has a good layout of all of the components and what they do. There's a ton, but the "best" way to upgrade is to use 36 Sturdy Bones which gives you an immediate x3 multiplier, then max the item out with supercompact reactors (or whatever item it is that gives 120000xp...).
I've got 5 missions left to do, and the other 59 are all 5 stars. Hopefully I don't have TOO much trouble with the last few.
Wheres the best place to farm for components or gill? I had a place I think in chapter 10 on the ship where i was getting incentive chips and selling them for 2500 a piece. That was nice gill. Just wondering if theres anything better out there.
Mama/papa turtles drop Platinum Ingots that sell for 150K as their common drop, their rare drop is Traphezidon(?)- the one that costs 2 million that you need to make the ultimate weapons. Baby turtles common drop is gold dust that sells for 15Kish, gold nuggest their uncommon that sells for 65K. Chocobo digging works out OK too, fairly decent random drop rate on gold nuggets, but the respawn rate for the nodes takes a while.
2.5K gil really is nothing when working on upgrading the end game gear. You are looking at 3-3.5Million worth of items to get an ultimate weapon done up.

from what i've read, money is the real issue in upgrading at the end game. There is a trick for getting 3 traps from 1, but it's not worth it to use, because by the time you get enough money to fully upgrade 3 ultima weapons, you should have more than enough traps.

If you are farming the turtles you should, I had 4 Traps long before I could upgrade one weapon fully. If you don't farm turtles though, you are going to need a *lot* more gil
Alright, just beat the storyline. Ending made me :'(. I rented this game, and I could continue but I think that'll be it for a while. 50 hours and I figure I still have the saves if I decide to buy it later at some point.
Just heard this was out. What is the consensus on the game, worth buying? I don't play console games anymore, but I had been waiting for this one as I love a good, classic JRPG (Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy, even the Disney little kid one was a lot of fun, but I can't remember the name of it).
I don't want to read too much of the thread for fear of spoilers, so even just basic yay or nay would be very helpful.

I think it's a very good game. Sure, the reviews are mixed, but I think it's underrated as a whole. Not the best FF game, but still a very good game on its own.
IMO one of the better FF games in the series. Not going to sway many people to think it's better then VI or VII, but I'd say it's in my top five for the series overall.

I think everyone has been really good about using the spoiler tags, even about rather trivial things. The only open discussions not tagged have nothing at all to do with the core story and only involve 'post' game grinding to complete it.

It takes a while to get into. At first the story makes no sense, and combat is incredibly limited. good thing that for me atleast, the first 5 or so hours passed pretty quick. Once you can start using everything, it becomes pretty fun. Gets bogged down at around chapter 10, and 11 you'll need to grind (but the world becomes open at that point). 12-13 is just fight + cutscene/story.
I like it a lot, despite what many people have said. I think it's one of the better final fantasies. I just really enjoy the combat.
I just left Gran Pulse and could not kill the King Behemoth. After a little grinding I decided to upgrade a Light's weapon. It is funny how she can deal 20,000+ to the BK and then only do 2,000+ to one the soldiers. I verified this while I was in: Commando, Synergist, Sentinel with Light, Hope, Fang.
