You can actually technically fight them (and win) as soon as vanille gets the Death ability. A lot of people farm by doing sab/sab/syn. Enter battle and immediately summon (control vanille btw). Your summon kills the legs so the adamnantoise wont attack anymore, quickly press square then triangle to get rid of your summon. Then start spamming Death over and over with vanille. You either get it to work or he stands up and kills you in which case you retry. Its probably a 50-60% success rate for me but at 40k a pop with a 1-2 minute battle its quick.

No need to dismiss the summon, when I was using the death trick I usually killed them before the summon was dismissed. Just start spamming death.

i found i had higher luck just by dismissing and allowing buffs to be put in place. haste, sab debuffs, ect. Read somewhere that the sab buffs increase chance to work by like 5% i think it was.

i just wish there was a way to turn off the short cut scene when you summon and switch modes. Those get old after the 5th time of having to see them

On the PS3 you can skip those by pressing the [Select] button. Not sure about on the Xbox360 though.

Finished the story on Sunday. I have about 40 missions left and trophies to get, but I'm pretty tired of the game. I'm trading it in.

I just started playing it this weekend and am enjoying it. Almost feels like I'm playing a movie and I like just being able to play an hour or two and then come back and get right back into it again. Only about 7-10 hours in so far, but what I have played I have liked quite a bit. It's obviously very linear and I'm fine with that overall as long they keep the story and characters engaging, though a tad more autonomy would definitely be nice.

Looking forward to what the next several hours of play hold for me.

I fell out of playing the game on a regular basis, and just can't bring myself to get back into it. If anybody wants to buy a mint copy of the game on the PS3 w/ regular strat guide for $60 shipped, let me know.

Music in this game is shit. Well, except the recycled final fantasy music that occasionally shows up.

Loved the battle system, story was pretty good (confusing at the start, but got better), but the music did suck. I missed the more classic FF music..

Good game overall; I am now in the post-story grind mode right now getting all the marks done and completing my weapon upgrades.

Nobuo Uematsu jumped ship on this one. That would be why the music was terrible.

I enjoyed it plenty (now in post-story stuff), but I've only really played FF4 and FF11, so perhaps I'm not the best barometer. :)

Sure, the intro to the game mechanics could have been shortened up, I guess, but I was never bored. My own thought is that too many people want to just plow through as fast as possible or something, which must not work as well with this particular game. I played the bulk in 1-3 hour chunks (mostly shorter than longer), and that worked pretty well for me.

Finally finished it at 36 hours. Game was pretty much endless tunnel grinding for the 1st 20 hours. Finally the overworld, which was brief, then back to tunnels. At this point I just started skipping monster battles. Then that tower level that FINALLY was not a tunnel. But it was short. Then some brief section in some abandoned town, then back to caccoon and more just running through with monster battles. Got owned by some monsters I didn't quite evade, lots of retrying and evading, long hour+ boss fights with 3 medics. Skipped all the monsters in Orphan's cradle (they always killed me), killed bosses, yadda yadda finished game.

So:
Game was pretty short.
Most of it (ok, nearly all of it) is just hours and hours of running through tunnels killing monsters.
No towns, pulse is devoid of any civilization. The field was just a field with monsters.
Sidequests seem like pointless hunting/fetch/grind quests. Meh.
Story wasn't very interesting, was like a cartoon story. I still hate all the characters.
Background mythology and fluff was very nice and detailed, but very poorly presented in the beginning.
Fuck high HP bosses that take forever to kill, and then towards the end, after you chip away maybe 75% of their HP, they pull some BS (doom your main character) and you lose, having to retry again. Repeatedly.
Combat is overly simple.
Some good music, mostly meh though.
Did I mention GRINDING? And TUNNELS?

That is about it for my masochistic adventures in FF13. I like the other FFs I have completed better (4, 6, 7, 9) except FF12.

Totally agree with the tunnel grinding. I'm have serious issues getting into this game and staying with it. I'll pick it up for an hour, get bored, and go do something else. I was really excited for this game... first FF in a long time I was actually looking forward to. Seriously disappointed thus far, but I'll likely press on and finish it eventually. *sigh*

Yeah, see, that's the experience that I didn't get from it. Maybe breaking it up into small chunks helped hide some of the tedium of the first parts.

Also, I pretty much read everything in the datalog as it appeared. I also did as many missions as I could in chapter 11 before going on to the end. As a result, I didn't finish the game until 56 hours played. Additionally, probably because of that, the bosses didn't really seem cheap or anything to me.

I finally killed mark 52? - Can't We All Just Get Along? -The Neocho for the Growth Egg.

I had Light (Com), Fang (Com) and Snow (Sen) and Fang as leader. I killed all the little guys first, switched to Fang into a SAB for imperial. And then back to COM, COM, SEN. I had both Fang and Light setup to randomly stagger the beast. And then I would go on Relentless Assault for the kill. The problem I was having was I was staggering him too early in the battle, but finally I got his chain level to about 130 when he insta-staggered ans switched to COM, COM, RAV

What kind of stats do your characters have?

They were maxed on the 3 primary rolls. Then I had Snow with physical defense stuff, Light and Fang with Quick Stagger.

It took me about 5 tries with this set up, One time I killed the Neocho as he spawned the little ones that killed me. Several time I quick staggered too quickly.

I had to retry against a boss for the first time when I fought Vanille's summon. It took me a couple of tries before I realized I could just continually debuff (even if he was already debuffed) and it would build the chain like crazy.

Man, I am really milking this game. Really reluctant to fight the last boss. I know I'll never touch the game again once I beat it.

Decided just to go to Gran Pulse and do as many Cieth stone missions as I can. Through a little bit of grinding as well while battling those big ass turtles, I was able to Max out Lightning Omega Weapon and Max out the tier 2 weapons for Vanille, Hope and Fang.

I have about 75 Hours logged.

I decided to go ahead and finish the game up so that the last section of the crystarium would open up. That'll make things more fun on Pulse.

This game has officially made me stop playing video games.

I used to knock out a couple thousand gamer points a month but 36 hours into FF13 and it has taken all the fun out of games.

Sorry to revive this thread. It has now been a few months and I still won't turn on my 360 after what ff13 did to it. The only gaming I do now is on my iPad. FU FF13, you ruined console gaming for me.

Wait what?? Did the game physically do something to your xbox? Otherwise that sounds pretty retarded.
