Not that I have anything against the Repubs particularly, but I have to admit I'm worried about them in control of the House, Senate, and Executive branch. The idea of any 1 party passing things ultimately unopposed worries me in that the party in question basically has control of national politics. I prefer a mix of Democrats and Republicans; they cancel each other out.;)

BTW, what is surprising (to me at least, since she is wonderful in almost every other way) is that Thumper is a *gasp* Democrat... :|

Yuck, ick, argh!

Oh well, I guess we'll just both not bother to vote, since we'd just cancel each other out anyway! ;)

Sigh...

I only hope they cut spending too.

I agree. It is never good that any one party have so much power in our political system. The Dems, unfortunately for them, did this to themselves. They currently have no coherent leadership or plan, there is still a lot of backlash from the fiasco of 2000, and they have supported tax increases during a time when a large number of families across the country are tightening their proverbial belts. Not exactly a winning strategy...
edit: and the irreverant disaster at the Wellstone "memorial" service was the icing on the cake. Polls showed some Dem candidates losing 5% or more overnight after that. Like I said, they have only themselves to blame (difficult as that kind of concept may be for them ;) ).

As for the tight race for Oregon's next governor, it is still way too close to call. Current data shows Mannix in the lead by less than 4,000 votes with 61% reporting.

Hopefully, yes.

I'm so happy. The Republican Party now controls all three branches of the federal government. :D

the turnout here in MO was HUGE!! i would personally like to thank all the idiots at the Wellstone "memorial" for helping the Republicans gain control of the Senate. that display of lunacy got more people to vote than anything in recent memory.

Fox News Headline: Republicans Win the Senate

Ahh, beauty to my eyes...

There is actually a second benifit to this... Since Thumper is going to be bummed about this tomorrow, I get to cheer her up with a romantic candle lit dinner, a dozen roses, and...

Grasshopper <-- life is good!!!! :D

Damn this Oregon gubenatorial race is close! I've never seen one so close. Suddenly Kulongoski just took a 50 vote lead with 62% reporting, and then Mannix is back with a 700 vote lead with 64%. I don't think this one will be decided for a week or two. I see recount(s) coming....

looks like Davis is pulling ahead of Simon... 47 vs 42 w/ 60% reporting

I hate them both but Simon seems like a dumbass to me so I guess I'm glad Davis is winning.

it isn't quite that simple, there is still this thing in the senate called a filibuster
filibuster - Informal term for any attempt to block or delay Senate action on a bill or other matter by debating it at length, by offering numerous procedural motions, or by any other delaying or obstructive actions.

i think it takes 60 senators to get around a filibuster or something like that

Bah.
Wha? Why? So dead people and/or bums off the street can vote at the last minute?
Voting is a right, but one people should have to earn I think. Anyway, it takes extremely little effort to register to vote 20 days before an election. I update my registration everytime I move (which isn't very often), just like changing the utilities or what-not. Very easy. Forgetting to register to vote represents (IMO) an apathy to our democratic process in the first place.

Back to the governor's race in Oregon: not gonna have the answers on this one tonight! Less than a 200 vote margin with 67% reporting, and the lead keeps switching back and forth.

Well, I forgot to register, so I want to be able to register same day. I don't have a problem with bums voting if they are US citizens. I think technology is out there that can make sure that people vote once and are eligible to vote.

The funniest thing is, Democrats claim to be for "the poor" yet they've raised taxes in exactly the place it will hit them hardest, food.

Now they want that same mentality with a governor so this insanity can be state wide.

It's a sad, sad day in IL. :|

Yeah. I voted mostly Republican, but part of me feels that maybe, just maybe, the voters have sent a message to the politicos that corruption will not be tolerated.

Strike that, "My Daddy OWNS the Machine" Madigan won. ;) Just goes to show that it ain't what you know, it's who you know. Ain't it just a bit suspicious when the newspaper that ran several front-page exposes on Madigan's campaign finances, got sued by Madigan's machine for those same stories, then went on to ENDORSE Madigan? The Tribune has joined the Murdoch crap sheets in my book.

Da** Cook County and it's democrat idiots. Well, they're gonna pay through the nose when all the regressive taxes get passed.

On the plus side, I can say that my county voted heavily Republican. None of the proposed tax increases passed.

On the really minus side, Blagojevich is gonna push the Peotone airport through. I'm gonna sit in front of his house with my speakers simulating jet planes at 150 dB landing at an airport.

I think there quit a few intelligent voters. Like those who voted:

for Cornyn in TX
Chambliss in GA
Talent in MO
Against the two tax initiatives in NV

and even the Dems in the GA primary that got rid of McKinney a few months ago.

i was actually referring to local issues.... i can't believe how the initiatives and referendums went. ugh :| and it does piss me off that one party has control over everything now. i don't like the democrats any more than the republicans but i certainly wouldn't want any one party having complete control :|

ok i found one result that i was pleasantly surprised with... concerning a judicial position... my judge won! :) she agrees with the ruling that the butchered version of the pledge of allegience is unconstitutional :D

Looks like the reps will take Minn.... I have been watching the results all morning and Mondale keeps falling further behind.... down by 52000 with 82% in.... Tight race in SD, too close to call, the dems are slowly chipping away.... Good thing for the dems that they could change toricelli in midrace in NJ as the other guy won....totally fair...
