Devil Worshipers!

See you in hell! I got it today a lunch. Going to have a ball when I get home. I going to bring my over clocked GT back to stock as it seems D3 may have a tendency to fry video cards.

mine is overclocked as well and its done fine so far...

it seems it may fare ok if you overclock in MODERATION.

I have my 6800GT overclocked to 400Mhz/1.1Ghz and it idles at 53, and at load goes to 76 with that rthdribl test. Case ambient temp is a cool 27. :) No problems with Doom 3 graphic wise. Remember to enable Vsync to avoid the screen tearing issue. One thing I did notice was the sound would corrupt or cut out at certain points in the very early part of the game where you have to go meet Kelly. I'd go to the options, deselect surround, reselect surround and the audio would be fine. Might be an issue with the latest NForce drivers?

I also just picked up D3 this morning, and have plunked a few hours into it already.

I've been pretty impressed from the get-go; the atmosphere is great, the graphics are awesome and the gameplay is solid - very reminiscent of the original Doom, except with the brightness turned down (a bit too) low.

Right now, it seems like a solid 91 or 92/100 or so on my scale; an awesome game, but not a "best of all time" caliber game, either. Halo, for it's day, was better by a good margin.

Some of my impressions, thus far:

-Plot is adequate. They spent enough time in the beginning to give it a bit of story, but (fortunately) didn't drag it out into an hour-long affair. Right when I picked up the pistol and started shooting was about the time when I started thinking "alright, let's start killing stuff already."

-The machine gun sucks. I've come to realize, that at the point where I am in the game (the 1-3 hour mark), whenever I get jumped by a group of guys and have the machine gun on, they get a few good hits in before I can drop 'em. Not good. I've found that keeping the shotgun out most of the time works best - if any slow or dumb monsters comes your way, switch to the pistol or machine gun to conserve shotgun ammo.

-The game is a bit too dark. It was great for the first hour, but now it's getting to the point where some sections have total blackness, and it's annoying having to switch from the flashlight to a gun to fire into the darkness, then back to the flashlight again. At the 2 hour mark or so, the thought of finding some damn duct tape became quite overwhelming ;). Also, for a marine-issue flashlight, it stinks something awful. You'd think that as marines, they'd be prepared and realize that for some reason this facility has lighting issues, and give you a kick-@ss flashlight. Instead, you get a mediocre flashlight. Maybe that's how it lasts forever...

Also, I think the darkness detracts from the graphics a bit - if it was a bit brighter, we'd see just how good some of these monsters look!

-The graphics themselves are amazing. Monsters look great, the environment looks great. I like the cool "Blade-esque" way the monsters disappear when they die too.

-The level design is adequate. I don't get complaints about it being too claustrophobic, etc. It's very similar to Quake/ Quake2, and I personally like the way it plays. This isn't Half Life, and it certainly isn't Far Cry - it's Doom!!

Basically, this game has met my expectations - the graphics engine is revolutionary, the gamplay is evolutionary.

:( game doesn't run as smooth as i would have hoped. have it on 800x600 at medium settings and it gets a little choppy in fire fights. running amd2500+ 768ddr radeon9500 w/ nothing oc'ed.

i think maybe i'm skipping around and going to the wrong places a little too much. i never have enough ammo (esp to fight those huge rhyno type monsters) and i never have the right access or codes for any doors. so frustrating.

multiplayer = OMG NO. i was so looking forward to this but the game is unbearable to play on most servers i tried. doesn't matter what ping you have, it feels like you are on 56k. hope they can patch this and make it somewhat better in the future. also, what happened to 4 player max? i saw servers with as many as 10 slots (impossible to do anything bc of lag, but they still exist). way too many listen servers as well -- trying to kill someone w/ 0 ping when you have over 100 is impossible.

ACK IM STUCK! Alright here is where I am. I think it is in the alpha place but I could be wrong. I got the video disk in the lab and then went crouched under that laser and crawled through that little hatch. After that I think I have searched everywhere. And I have come to a door that requires a PDA but I cant find the fvcking thing. I swear I have looked everywhere and I have messed with all the computers and such.

More hints to where I am at so you can get a better understanding:

The place where the lazer is was in the alpha.
There is a place where the stair collapse and you have to walk on the railing.
There is a place where you have to go through the ground because the door only opens partially.

Please help me I have no idea how to beat this part.

Goddaaamn I'm a luck man!!

Ahhaha... doom-slut... :p

just loaded it today... XFX GeForce 4 Ti4200/128... note to self, don't try higher res then 640x480...

lots of jagged edges on the facial profiles, but overall, I'm impressed so far. I didn't have high expectations as for what my current video card could perform at, so I'm not disappointed at all. Graphics were fine by me, although obviously not what they can fully do. A wee bit of lag during cutscenes, but with the amount of data being uncompressed, I'm not surprised... I think i averaged about 20-25fps, though i haven't actually left the MARS facility yet...

I'm having some problems...

1. High or Ultra detail gives ' fuzzy ' menus
2. Going into menu or console during game, loses sound. (have to quit and restart)

Also had to drop my core on r9700pro to 358 due to artifacting (from 360)
(No other game does this :) )

You are correct in that Doom does all of the audio processing by itself, with no support for hardware audio. BUT, after the game already went gold, id announced it had struck an agreement with Creative to add support for EAX to the Doom 3 engine. What this means is that it will be added to the engine for those who license it for their own games. No word yet on whether a patch/update will be issued for Doom 3 when EAX support is added, although I'd assume it would.

Unfortunately, the CC add says AVAILABLE THIS FRIDAY in big bold letters. So its a YMMV until friday... if you want to top that, try using the $5 Gamers GiftCard along with the PM which is another YMMV. I'm thinking of doing that this friday to bring it down to ~$40

Also, in the console type: "give doom95"

This will give you a keycard for stock room 11. Anyone know where this room is? Apparently this in this room there is a little hidden goody (a new doom game?)

Let me know if you guys hear anything.

The game is awesome, but on occassion I get a whole bunch of artifacts on the screen. It seems to only happen when it does the "shimmering" heat effect (which is very cool btw). I don't have my card overclocked (ATI Radeon 9800 XT).

I have been playing it for about 3 hours now since I got it at 1:00... I'm not sure if I want to play it at night time :p

In your DOOM 3 directory, find "DoomConfig.cfg" (x:\Program Files\Doom 3\base). Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.

Find the line:

seta image_cacheMegs "32"

if you have 512 ram, put it to 96 or 128, if you have a gig put it at 128 or 256. this allocates more memory to run the game and improves performance for *some* people. as a side effect, it will take your pc a longer time to get "back to normal" after you exit the game because he needs to get rid of all the memory you used.

found on hardforum.

Hope this isn't a repost. Found an initeresting quote buried in a time.com article:

"Universal Pictures has a Doom movie set to film in Prague this winter, with producer John Wells ? of such respectable fare as ER and The West Wing ? attached. (The Rock reportedly has his sights set on the starring role.) "

I heard rumors of the movie in the making but they said they couldnt find a producer or studio. Looks like they found one.

Anybody having any sound issues with NForce audio? It makes these clicking noises when I select surround speakers. Works fine set to normal, but what's the point of having 5.1 audio if you can't hear all the speakers? ;)

I would make sure you have 5.1 surround sound selected in sounds & audio devices in your windoze control panel. Either that or there's some spiders following you...

Yes, it's set for 5.1. No, there aren't any spiders . . . this is right in the beginning of the game.
