Diablo III beta is not just announced... The client is already leaked... ; )

**Edit... doh... someone already said that before me...

Not if the haxxorz can help it. ; )

It's bound to happen, I cannot believe that nothing less than Diablo III, a game that many have waited for years, will simply remain a downloadable beta client that wouldn't be playable/accessible past the main menu. Someone out there will hack it. With that said, I refuse to download it or even watch any live streams of game-play unless I myself receive a beta key. But if I do receive one I might just have an heart attack, just saying.

If the monsters are server-side like WoW then the beta client won't be hacked, at least not before the game launches altogether.

It's not an "if", according to the devs, that's how the final game is going to work. The game will operate like MMOs in that all graphical and data assets will be client-side, but the "brains" - behavior, randomization, stats, names, etc.. will all be server-side. For beta, it'll very likely be the same, since changing the way it operates just for a short test run is unnecessary workload on their full Xmas plates.

As Blizzard is essentially shipping half a game, pirates pirating it will also just get half a game. Unless the servers are hacked, there will be no piracy, at least not for a number of years. That's when enough info is collected by thousands of players that a pseudo server could be possibly programmed.

That's a ton of work for (probably) very little gain, too. But some people love the challenge, so it may eventually come about.

The Burning Crusade client was hacked pretty much on release. I remember D/ling it and playing around in the empty world. No monsters, but it was still cool to check the world out early.

Yeah, and they were garbage or unpopulated (by monsters) altogether. D3 may get a "pirated" server for the beta, but it will be devoid of real mobs, etc.

Yea, that's true. When you didn't have a beta though it was a little fun to do some exploring.

friend of mine works at blizzard and just confirmed he has a beta key for me.. should have it later today!

🙁

I'll see you at the arena one day, there's no reasons to play co-op with you anymore.

P.S./ Send me a Beta key please, thanks.

It's gonna be like SC2 all over again, people selling their D3 beta codes on Ebay for $200. Why oh why won't you send one to an honest soul like me Blizz!?!?!?
