GTX480 vs. HD5870 power consumption difference is a joke compared to this!! Anyone who plans to overclock this to 4.8ghz+ better come prepared with nothing less than an NH-D14, Thermalright Silver Arrow, Archon, Megahalems, Corsair H100, and a top-of-the-line 650W power supply etc.

Now where is that disclaimer for a minimum 480W power supply for a GeForce 6800 Ultra.....

That power draw is criminal.

AMD have actually released a CPU worse than the previous generation and all on a smaller 32nm process. That takes an impressive piece of failure to do

Who in the hell would want a whole rack of these things in Opteron form in servers? The power draw and heat virtually eliminate them from being used in that purpose.

Oh my gosh. What a waste of time. Facepalm. And why are they still running cpu-nb/L3 cache at only 2.2ghz???? I'm clocking mine on my x4 965 at 2.8ghz!

My choice (accelerated by the MicroCenter deal) to go with the 2600k a couple of weeks ago was a very good decision. This chip is hot, late and under performing.

Ok, so when I can I get one of these chips in a Cracker Jack box? I'll have a $10 ECS motherboard ready for it to drop into.

The only one that looks remotely interesting to me is the fx-6100. In games it isn't that far behind the 1100T, uses slightly less power, costs about the same, and probably overclocks pretty well. Also any mobo that it works in will probably work with "unbroken" BD chips down the line. That said looks like my brothers and I might be going Intel this time around. I just can't believe how much power these are sucking down.

Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7OJwraAfOw needs to be redone for BD

I want to read the anandtech review because I want to know why it sucks. We've known that it sucks for a long time.

Fail processor has failed. I really don't know what else to say, maybe this is a forward looking design that has not been fully realized I don't know. But as it stands, I see no reason to buy this thing.

Sad day for all hardware enthusiasts. Intel is dancing with glee.

THey would have been better off tweaking the Thuban IPC, shrinking it to 32nm, and ramping up the clock by 15%.

How do they expect to sell a single FX-8150 at $245? Add to that $70 super cooler and a $200+ board that can support 250W+ of CPU power consumption for overclocking vs. $220 2500k with a $30 CM212+ and a $130 Asrock Extreme4 Gen3 board.

Cost more then a 2500k

uses more energy then a 2500k

slower in about all cases then a 2500k

Is this amd's idea of a pratical joke?
