This is so expected and yet still so disappointing.

Who's going to be the first one to photoshop someone frying up a steak on the Bulldozer? :D

So an i5 2500K Motherboard+CPU system costs around $270.

I paid $190 for my Sabertooth motherboard, and the 8150 isn't as good as a 2500K.

I expect to be able to buy one for less than $80.

Aten-Ra: What IPC improvements will we see against Deneb or Thuban in single Thread and Multi thread applications?

AMD : Bulldozer is a new and radically different core architecture making it impossible to draw IPC parallels to any previous design. With the design of the AMD FX, we focused on offering the highest possible instructions per watt. AMD FX is designed with current and future workloads in mind. At the same time, we have added the new instruction sets and as improvements are realized in applications and operating systems (like the Windows 8 scheduler improvements), we believe performance will increase.

Note: In older apps, either compiled with an older compiler, or those using older instructions will see FX at a disadvantage. Again this was a design decision. Design for today’s apps and the future was the engineering mantra.

Well, they badly need new software :p

Apparently every reviewer missed the fact that the "Special Edition" FX-8150 $325 bundle will come with a free HD7950 or a lifetime supply of LN2 for overclocking, while supplies last.

It must be so demotivating to be on the AMD's GPU team knowing all the $$ you are making is wasted into AMD's CPU R&D and nothing good comes out of it.

Dont see how AMD even bothered to send these out for review. If I was a reviewer I would have felt like I had just opened up a shiny tin box full of poop. I'm really disappointed in AMD. I feel like going to their headquarters and showing them what a real bulldozer can do. But seriously, wth AMD?

damn.. what really is getting to me is that this is on a fairly mature, new process.

they could have respun thuban several times on 45nm and STILL gotten better performance. Better still, a theoretical X6 1300T 500 Mhz higher on the 32nm process and a tweaked core would have been much better, as well as being a drop in replacement to some boards..

and to fix their power management.

there is no reason it should be sucking down 3x the A8's power consumption at idle.

AMD needed to move the power consumption curve down, not blow it up at the top.

in somewhat related news, Newegg has ran out of Sandy Bridge cpus...

AMD bought them all. Their elves will be hard at work sanding the lids down and re-etching them with the AMD logo. It will be marketed as Bulldozer S.

The entire supply of AMD's actual Bulldozers has been sold to GE and will be used as heating elements in snack toasters.

When the next generation amd processors come out...lets please not recommend a upgrader to wait for it either...waiting does NOT pay off..

This is by far the most painful and insulting thing about it.

Take PhII, drop to 32nm, increase caches, bus speed, core clock, and stick 8 cores together, and at 4ghz+ you have a pretty damned solid chip. Maybe not enough to dethrone the Intel chips, but a very well rounded product that would likely eat Intel for lunch on multithreaded stuff, and not lag too badly in single-threaded at all.

BD? What a pile.

I have been an AMD fan for a long time. Budget builds on AMD were so much easier since their cpus and motherboards fell in a lower price bracket, but now intel has extremely inexpensive cpus ~$200 quads, ~$100 duals, that are easily paired with $60~$100 motherboards. It seems the time has come to switch to Intel. Boo no competition. :(

What I want to know is why the NB clock is still so slow... I can't help but think that the L3 is holding back bulldozer. It's already been shown that L3 overclocking gives a fair improvement to PHII

Don't know what to say maybe "it's raining, it's pouring, the black sky is falling, it's cold tonight!" :( :( :(

Some of you are going into troll overdrive. Things are going to get ugly.

We can only try to have a sense of humor and share in collective disappointment considering the sheer magnitude of this disaster.

For the record, Aigo was spot-on when he said that Thuban was the better chip. It really is. It doesn't require an expensive mobo, it does great at multithreaded loads considering the price, and most importantly doesn't suck power like an absolute maniac.

Guys,

nobody cares about the desktop anymore. It's all about mobile devices now. AMD wants Llano and Brazos to succeed, and they designed BUlldozer for the server market.

Zambezi is crap, I just wish they would have told us that 6 months ago.

What was that about Sandy B. breaking my heart, AMD?
