oh great. I'm in the same situation with xf 4870's. After all the stupid issues I've had with xf in games I'm just done with it from now on.

Guess I'll have to build a new pc.

Initially crossfire wasn't supported at all, I was playing on low at 1280 x 800 to get framerates over 50. After AMD issued a hotfix, I was able to fiddle with the settings a bit, but never really change the resolution if I wanted to be competitive. I warned my wife months ago I'd be getting a new videocard soon. The rest of my system is still pretty solid, if I put the time in figuring out how to OC my i7.

I'm disappointed I will not be able to test out Joystick support in the beta.
This is always a problem area.

I never could get my joystick to work for BC2. The YAW was reversed for some reason.

Hopefully they have better support in BF3.

You could correct the yaw with some config file tweaking, except if you made it correct for Helicopter, it was reversed for the UAV. They were always opposite of each other...

Yes, there is a long list of glaring issues with Bad Company 2 which were never addressed. It's a big black eye for DICE. Plenty of trash talk against them is deserved.

That's why it was easy for me to believe that September 29 was the beta date. Getting it in just under the wire.

I'm at 2560x1600 with a single 4870X2. I'm hoping new offerings from AMD or Nvidia willl shake things up a bit so I can upgrade. I could barely play the alpha at all, crossfire was a disaster.

Hope crossfire and sli is supported out the box or else you just have a 4870 at work.

Hated that about a gtx295 i used to own.

GTA4 if memory served me right didn't support sli at first and well i had a $500 gtx260 sucking it thru a straw .

That card and a i7 940 which both i sold made my room way to warm for comfort.

This game is going to rape my 4890 isn't it? I haven't been paying attention to graphics cards lately so I don't really know where it falls on the spectrum between their minimum and recommended requirements. It plays BC2 just fine at high settings. Am I going to regret it if I don't upgrade?

According to the Alpha results a 4890 got average 35 fps at 1920 X 1080.

In the alpha VoIP was provided by 3rd party technology integrated with Battlelog, the utility that also includes the server browser. You could get the player name of a player in the game you were in, and invite them to your voice channel.

I believe it was Demize99 that recently tweeted something about VoIP in BF3 being by default your whole team. We'll have to see what mechanism they put in place to make this happen auto-magically.

I have dead space 1 and haven't even played it yet. I'd rather take the 25% off when the code comes and buy DS2 for $5 at a steam sale sometime in the future lol.

Does not work on TOR. They have that game locked down hard and not even the customer service people could do anything. I tried and eventually just gave the code away to a friend for BF3.

The recommended specs are a 6950 or 560... yeah, this game is going to cripple all but the highest end systems at max'd out @ high res.

-still no res. to those spec's ,so 1050 will play better than 1200,
-you know in 3 of the bf3 pc forums - a lot of posters where calling us gamers with 580sli computer nerds -payback is a bxtch isn't it.

You're right, they do need to re-test OM to evaluate the changes from Alpha. But why not test both? Not testing Conquest at all means Conquest will be on shaky ground at release time.

I suppose then, that we have to go back and wonder why they didn't Alpha test on Conquest. I'm no Rush hater, but I do prefer CQ and I think at least half of BF players do as well.

did you play the alpha I did and felt the map could\was bigger than it showed. ,if so this one could open up a bit more ground\area.or at least be the full map with all the settings.

It's not about the size, even if they opened up Op Metro to its full size and ran conquest in it, it's still not got jets and tanks in it to balance those things, simply because the OM map doesn't have them.

didnt ATI release a CAP in the middle of the alpha that enabled xfire for bf3?

and there was some beta nvidia driver that did the same?

atleast with ATI all the caps from one month are rolled into the next full driver package so I would guess ati owners should be good to go

A Q&A with BF3 Global Community Manager Daniel Matros (zh1nt0) on a public teamspeak with the German community, and details of the discussion from the EAUK Forums have exposed some new unconfirmed details regarding Battlefield 3 and the release of the BF3 Beta next week on September 29th. We’ve broken down the list from the conversations below into bullets to keep it as short and sweet as possible.

Q&A

General Beta Info

• Beta will not start at 00:00.
• Between 2-3 gig beta client.
• You can not UPDATE alpha client you need to re-download the new Beta Client.
• Netcode is totally rewritten and new.
• No level limit @ beta.
• Cant join as a Squad if the Team is full so battlelog groups won’t get split.

Gameplay Info

• Autoheal on all vehicle’s after 10-15sec.
• Vehicles autoregeneration ONLY under 75% Health.
• Unlocks are for WEAPONS not for the classes you can not unlock red dot sight on gun1 and use it on gun 2.
• Operation Metro got changed and has a new Layout, thats why they want to test balance again.
• You have more then 1 knife animation, from behind, on the ground and you can NOT counter the knife attack.
• You can still throw grenades to hear enemys yell.
• You can not cook grenades.
• You can join with friends on a server.
• Friendly fire is On as the default setting. (F'n A! -Gully)

Misc. Info

• You can use 3 screens if you have enough graphic power.
• Next 1-3 weeks will be talking about new maps.
• Caspian Border IS NOT THE BIGGEST MAP.
• No Bombs on Jets.
• When you get kicked you can see the reason in Battlelog.
• Ranked Servers can be changed to unranked Servers.
• Battlelog application for iPhone.
• Battlelog can be updated without patching the game so we can get new stuff faster.
• No weather or time changing in game.
• No comment on the Battlerecorder.
