No bombs in jets, how are they meant to kill APCs and tanks then, ramming??

Talking about dumbing down, this is gay.

Laser guided missiles? Has everyone somehow missed that?

Also, tweet from Demize today:

@Demize99 is the A-10's GAU/8 Avenger in BF3 realistically portrayed in damage and ROF or was it "balanced"?

Does anyone know if your BF3 Soldier name can be different than your Origin user name? I downloaded the Origin beta today and accidently registered a different Origin user name and there is no way to change it!

I want to use a user name for BF3 that I've been using since the original Counter-Strike. I use this username for ALL my first person shooters...:'(

BC2 is being patched right now with a large 2GB+ patch , new net code from BF3 ya think...

gives me great hope my xfire wont be wasted

they claim to have fixed the eyefinity/surround crashes that patch r8 or 9 introduced into BC2(yes it was working and they broke it :( )

I'll have to play some BC2 this weekend and see if it CTD's on me.

Here is the patch post and the highlights:

You are being vague. Exact changelist please!
-Removed some memory leaks
-Fixed crashes when the game attempted to render lots of content (high detail, high FOV or multiple-monitor modes); this should particularly help multi-monitor users
-Chat window no longer causes lag spikes
-Chat window reworked opacity & visibility-time is controllable through settings in settings.ini
-Clantag is remembered when using auto-login
-Banner URLs can be up to 252 characters in length
-SecuROM wrapper removed from non-Steam version
-Minor performance enhancements
-Reduced rubberbanding on >24p servers
-PrintScreen takes a screenshot, file stored in Documents\BFBC2\Screenshots directory

Are there any known problems with it?
If your Windows username contains non-English characters (such as ö, ý, etc) then PunkBuster will not activate properly. To work around this, ensure that your Windows username uses only characters from the English character set. In other words, "7-bit ASCII only, please".
We caught this at the very end of the QA pass, and decided that it was better to deliver the build to the public than to give it another tour through the whole patch generation and QA process.

This game is going to rape my 4890 isn't it? I haven't been paying attention to graphics cards lately so I don't really know where it falls on the spectrum between their minimum and recommended requirements. It plays BC2 just fine at high settings. Am I going to regret it if I don't upgrade?

In alpha my computer ran BF3 @ 60fps on low with a GTX260 but only at 1280x1024.

I am pretty sure a 4890 is quite a bit faster than a GTX260 so it should at least be playable.

Will be playing beta again and see if it's any better.

I don't play betas, but hopefully someone with a similar rig will report in.

I've got a 4890 as well, and will be using the Beta as a test for how much I need to upgrade. In the Alpha, I had to play at 1440x900 with Low Textures to get it 'playable'. I'm thinking a 560 ti will be the LEAST of an upgrade I'm considering.

Talking about dumbing down, this is gay.

I guess opinions vary...

I always hated the jet maps...while not everyone...the majority would just use the jet to rape the shit out of the ground troops at spawn points...

step 1 get in jet
step 2 take off
step 3 go to a cap that is being taken or defended by the enemy
step 4 drop bombs
step 5 fly back over the airfield at mach 3

Repeat the entire round.

Again that doesn't account for all pilots...so don't take it that way if you truly are that guy that uses the jet the correct way...I am referring to the other 95% of the artards out there that just rack up cheap kills.

And for the record I would totally be in favor of having things the way they were if we had some level of ground defense outside of a stationary SAM site that people can bomb and pick off with machine guns from a mile away.

Give me a shoulder mounted anti air rocket and level the playing field...then you can have your bombs.

I'm sorry, then what is even the point of having jets then? Seems perfectly reasonable for a jet to be able to defend a capture point with bombs until ground forces can re-enforce it

Jets needed to be nerfed.

Hated seeing a half-dozen players waiting for a jet, being useless to their team. Then they would fight over it with someone eventually griefing by shooting a RPG and taking out the pilot and plane.

Then with the nerfed AA vehicles and weapons, you could go 100-0 in a round in a jet.

From an admin stand-point, jet maps are a major headache.

From players standpoint ... jet maps sucked too. Jets were fun, but there were almost none to spawn...and people would kill you while you waited.

Towards the end of BF2 hayday, I played 24/7 wake island, and it got bad.

Lack of bombs does NOT mean jets are nerfed. I firmly predict that jet rape will be at an all time high.

The cannons, for example, could have splash damage that makes bombs totally unnecessary.

yeah, I know the feeling. Also, the lameness of jets being able to just mow down infantry. You're hiding in a bush or behind a rock a jet spots you and takes you out with it's cannons. Ghey!

Not sure what is up w/ 4890 problems in beta. I had one at the time and ran on 1920x1200 medium just fine (Q6600).

I've often wondered this myself. Sure, they're fun and all, but they can drastically decay gameplay, especially in pubs. First, there's the ground raping. No need to debate that further. Second, there's the fact that you get a fucking line at the jet's spawn point, so you have a bunch of twats contributing to jack shit. Then when one lucky SOB gets the jet and takes off, he'll probably be shot down by his teammates, OR, his teammates will continue to hang around until he dies, hoping they'll be the next lucky SOB.

Notice that none of this involves the map objective, other than the ground raping. In the best case scenario, you get a couple jets in the sky dogfighting with each other instead of ground raping, in which case you have two separate games going on at the same time: the objective on the ground, and Top Gun in the air. Fun (for the pilots), but stupid IMO.
