theres that many "issues" with the board that should scare anyone from buying it, by far from what i have seem its one of the best if not the best.

also the P4C800 is a 875 chipset board while the P4P800 is a 865 chipset board.

if you dont want RAID just a single ATA HDD its as easy as a setting in your BIOS for the promise controle from RAID to IDE.

that covers a few recent post, now that I'm all caught up! :p

I'd wait for another day or so before trying out the new beta. They have made 4 beta updates within the last 6 hours or so.

Why havent these been listed on the Asus website? Cuz they still have 1006 as the release and now have nothing on Beta.. Guess we dont have release notes on what the latest BIOS does

Little research... on the www.asus.com.tw FTP site they have those "new" release under "P4C800_entry" and the beta 1007.013 and 1006 under "P4C800" so are these for the Non-deluxe?!?

But according to the location of those files on the german site...

Im confused :)

(Sorry for the mass postage but there's no editing post *shrug*)

thats what i was afraid of.... Guess i'll stay on 1006 for a little bit more

question about RAM

I got some (512MB 400MHz DDR PC3200 DIMM 3-4-4)
would (512MB 400MHz DDR PC3200 DIMM CL2.5) have been better? $5 more *shrug*

When it comes to messing with clock speeds on memory I'm a newb so i'm clueless when someone talks about 2-2-2-5

Using the Intel's Retail heatsink tha came with my P4 3Ghz 800FSB I didnt think (from what i understood with the directions) that i needed to use the Thermal paste provided... Is it ok bare or should I slop some on?

Really nice board this p4C800 dlx... could have more extras (like msi 875P Neo-FIS2R for eg.). But I have small problem and seams that no one alse has this one. When my windows xp pro shuts down it does not turn off the power! It's just hangs on the last screen that is usually seen before power turns off... I thought that it is some kind of driver conflict or something but I tryied fresh installed windows with no extra drivers installed (except for ones for raid)... same thing.... Did anyone had similar problem or knows anything about this thing please post

Unless you lapped the heatsink and processor for a perfect fit, you should use the thermal paste between the two. Most of the retail heatsinks come with a thermal pad which does not require thermal paste but is not as efficient as thermal compound. On my 3.06HT the retail sink did not come with a thermal pad but did include some Shin-Etzu thermal compound. The Shin-Etzu is very good paste and is equal to performance of ASIII. If this is what you got with the 3.0C, then I would squeeze a very small amount on the very center of the Processor die and re-attach the heatsink. The reason for a small amount on the center of the processor is that the actual core of a P4 is in the center of the heatspreader and this will fill the gaps of the sink and heatspreader for lower temps and better overclocking ability.

I would suggest that once you have installed the 1006 final bios that you go ahead and install the 1007-013 beta. I used the AFUDOS.exe to update mine. Created a file P4C.bat with the contents of "afudos /ip4c800.rom /n /pbnc" (without the quotes). You will have to change the bios file name to p4c800.rom and just run the bat file from a clean DOS boot. I perfer DrDos when I update my bios file, since it is very clean boot disk.

Ok new huge problem.

I just wasted a whole day to drive and replace ram that i thought was bad... however i ran a memory test on the new ram and it said "Faulty ram you should replace it."

Well this really made my stomach sink. I tried taking the clock down from 400 to 320 mhz. I ran the test again... and it worked fine!

What the heck is going on? I have kingston dual channel 2x512 CL2 pc3200 ram.

Is there some bios error or do i have a setting wrong in bios?

Also the mem test fails when its set at 400 mhz... and so does applications if i open a bunch windows does illegal ops because of the memory corrupting data... this is what i think

You have hyper-x memory? then you probably have heat spreaders on it... try adjusting the spreaders and make sure the memory can seat fully... other than that not sure, my kingston valueram works dual-channel 400mhz until i overclock more than like 15% :p

rest of specs:
WD HDD 12 Gigs
Maxtor HDD 60 Gigs
Nvidia Geforce 2 Mx400
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM
CREATIVE CD-RW
SB Audigy

For some reason it is saying "NO DEVICE CONNECTED TO FASTTRACK CONTROLLER, BIOS NOT INSTALLED"
If anyone could help I would appeciate it greatly thank you...

PC3200 is DDR 400mhz memory btw. As for as the RAID controller problem goes, make sure your hard drives are set for the right jumper settings, that can cause the RAID controller to not recognize them. Do you have SATA drives or are you using ATA 133 hard drives? Becuase I have heard that using the ATA 133 connector can be a pain to use on this motherboard. Check the jumpers of your hard drives as well - usually Master or Cable Select works fine.

check your bios settings so that the promise controller is set to IDE instead of RAID and PATA i believe

P4C800 Deluxe wont boot, please help!

I honestly do not know what at all is wrong with my system.. I turn it on and everything's ok, but whenever my hard drive is about to load up my OS, it resets and boots up all over again, it will keep doing this in a continuous cycle if i leave it on without touching the computer.. i really just don't know whats wrong..

My system specs are:
-----ASUS P4C800 Deluxe
-----Two Kingston 512mb memory modules, part no KVR400X64C25
-----P4/2.4GHz, 800Mhz FSB
-----Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
-----IBM Deskstar 7200rpm 40 GB hard drive (Master)
-----Samsung 7200rpm 120 GB hard drive (Slave)
-----IBM Deskstar 40gb hard drive
-----Antec SL450 Smart Power P4 450W Power Supply

I've checked and rechecked the memory modules, they are on the qualified RAM list on the ASUS website.. Sapphire ATI radeon is compatible with 0.8V and 1.5V so there should be no problem there.. the only thing i can think of is that theres a BIOS setting thats not right, a wire connection misaligned, or theres a problem with my hard drive.. can anyone help me? sorry =( my first custom built computer and everythings all screwed up.. =( thanks in advance..

Did you do a fresh install or have you just not reached that point yet? If you have not done so, update the bios to 1006, load the setup or optimized defaults and do a fresh install of the OS.

EDIT: Are you running just the ide setup for your hard drives? If so, disable the raid in the bios and any other on board extras that you may not be using.

Not a very good start to my experience with this board. My brother wanted to build a new system and given what he wants to do with it I recommended going with a P4C800 and either a 2.8 or 3.0 P4. He went with the 3.0GHz so we bought the board, retail box CPU, and memory all from a local dealer I buy stuff from all the time. I got it home and put it all together in a brand new Antec case with a 400 watt Antec power supply and when I powered it up it began chanting "System failed CPU test" over and over until powered off at the power supply. I tried all the usual stuff like reseating the CPU, removing the memory etc with no different result. Yesterday I dropped it all off with the dealer for him to make it right but I am curious if anyone else here has experienced this? I did find some hits on a google search that some folks had this because the heatsink clip is too tight but that is about it. If it turns out to be a bad MB this will be the second retail ASUS board I have bought this year that is defective :(.

Fired up my -E this weekend, what a nightmare. Random reboots, freezes, etc. It appears to be the 3.5 ATI drivers, hmmmmm, imagine that. I went back to the 3.4 and most of the problems went away. Anyone else have any experience with this board yet.

Mike, I've got my "E" fired up a few days now. Very solid but I'm using a GF4 TI4200.
2.4C and 2X512MB XMS3200LL and a single Raptor.
Cranking 265 FSB right now with a 4/5 divider on the memeory for 3.2MHZ and 400+ DDR @2-3-3-6-4
CPU @default voltage and DDR @ 2.65v.
This is better than my IC7 would do and I'm going to see if it will do more.
:)

It's saying that because you have no Device attached to the Promise Controller. Everything is OK but if you disable the Promise Controller in the BIOS, the message will go away.

Get rid of all nonessential disks, PCI cards, etc. Start with a very basic, barebones system and add back the other stuff after you have the system up and running. Flash the latest BIOS! Good Luck!

Does your processor smell? Burnt perhaps? The Board usually doesnt Lie :p
I'm shipping my friends 3c back tmw because it was toasted! and it told us the same thing..
(it wasnt toasted in the P4C800, was testing another board P4S800... which turns out to be a faulty board)

Now its true that things like bad memory or mb could cause it to say that, but unless u can try the Proc out in another board (I dont recommend putting ur proc in the new board... thats how my friends toasted!) I was blame the proc.. it can be alot more fragile than the board and memory

U just bought it so u got time to replace it....

Im waiting on my replacement Audigy2 Platinum to come back... it was a defective card after working for almost a month and then started to cause my system to restart itself randomly *shrug* thats life

I just got in a brand new Geforce fx 5900 ultra and i just started to think about what AGP it is running at.

I looked up details on pcmark and it says AGP 4x. How do i change this to 8x? i looked in the bios but didn't see anything.

Also what would a safe voltage setting to clock my processer and video card?

Thanks
