i have found that if you are using both keyboard and mouse on usb it doesn't work till it is on a new bios - so if you are installing new - use a ps2 converter to get thru the installation - because i was wondering why f6 was working alot of the times

back to the power issue - at the moment 300w is more than plenty for most systems - at the moment i am running a kv8 with a 3200 - sb audigy - one cd/rw/dvd drive - a pny ti4200 - 1 seagate hdd - and i am upgrading to a 6800 gt any day now - read up on some posts - power supply overkill has defeintely been one of the biggest things peopel do - just get a good quality ps with good efficiency and you are good to go for amny cases -

Yes, i thought that some people tend to overkill....My other systems never rated above 240watts when i tested it with a watt meter... But things change, so i wanted to make sure. I was hoping that my 350 watt antec would be good for many computers to come.

I tried to read through this thread to look for an answer, but im not sure if anyone else has had this problem....

My new K8V SE Deluxe / Athlon 64 3200+ combo freezes quite often. It seems to do it consistantly when i leave the computer for a period of time, but it also does it randomly... Any ideas?

My setup:
Athlon 64 3200+
ASUS K8V SE Deluxe Mobo
512 (256x2) Crucial PC2100 Ram
80GB Western Digital 7200rpm (oldest part in the system, going on 4 years old)
Antec Truepower 430
Ati Radeon 9700
Microsoft Wireless G PCI Card
XP Pro

You may want to look into upgrading your ram.

I would use at least 3200.

I'm using crucial ram and am having NO problems at all.

but I do not overclock. =)

430w is overkill - in many systems 300 is more than enough - the k8v is a great board you just need to help it along because its picky about ram - with the installation of xp all you need is the via sata raid drivers - no promise nothing else - and press f6 to install it

It also depends on how many fans and HDD's and other things you have running all at once , I have a DVD Rom a DVD Burner 2 HDD's a power supplied Video card and 5 High quality fans , and I'm adding another HDD for Video recording.

my power rails don't even flutter and I like it that way. =) However you can use whatever you feel comfortable with.

Happy 4th ya'll! (in the USA)

Would this setup work for the motherboard? This is my first bulid so any suggestions are appreciated.

AMD Athlon 64 3200
ASUS "K8V SE Deluxe"
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS PCI Sound Card
ATI RADEON 9800PRO
Seagate 120GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive (Not Sure about this drive...)
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR
Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer, Model "AVC-1000 REV.3"
Arctic Cooling CPU Cooler For AMD Athlon "Silencer 64 TC"
And then ive got some 80mm cooling fans from Cooler Master

Overall how good is this motherboard?

What power supply and what specific model of Corsair memory?

From what I've read, the mobo can be problematic; but is good when you get it up and running. I'll post my experiences back next week when I get back in town with my 80GB WD SATA HDD waiting for the rest of my A64 system, including that same board.

This thread makes me want to cry...

Not quite, but i have had nothing but trouble since building around a K8V SE Deluxe.
I hadn't even realized there was a dedicated thread for this mobo, so this gives me many ideas to see if i can get mine working stably.

Sorry for the double post. The power supply will be around 400w and heres a link to the memory: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-416&depa=0

On Newegg there are some pretty good reviews about this motherboard, but on these forums its not so good... hmm.. kinda confusing. Guess its just what you got on it. Since this is my first build i dont want to put it all together and find problems with it the first thing after i start it up...So once again suggestions on different components are appreciated.:)

You should have no problem with that PSU. A lot of people talk about it not being able to handle it but they have never tried; therefore, everything they have said is false. The quality PSU can handle much better than the cheapies.
Good luck.

You might be overclocking the RAM without knowing it. The setup you got seems fine if everything is setup correctly. Given that, I had pretty much everything you got and ran fine the first time without a hitch. Though I have the Radeon 9800 PRO.

You have not mentioned the PSU. Which one do you have? This might be the most important piece of hardware. Instead of asking just try it. Yes, the board is good.

I plan on getting the Antec 430w power supply. Also, i'm not sure if that drive from Seagate will work with the motherboard. Thanks in advance.

I'm an admitted newbie and was wondering if anyone out there has any good advice on how to remove the stock back plate without destroying the motherboard? I'd like to add a Zalman HSF, and would like to use the plate that Zalman provides. However, it sounds like the best way to go is to remove the stock back plate if possible and I just don't know how to do it. TIA for your responses.

the back plate is easily removable - just bush on the two screw parts - and with a lil pressure it will come off -

on another point - don't listen to the manual about dimm slots - i placed a ocz stick in the blue slot - and it had errors - rmaed it - got another stick - placed it in the blue slot also errors - but i just placed it in the first yelow slot and no errors- makes me wonder if i needed to rma it at all

Acutally... funny you should mention the manual and DIMM slots:

Page 2-11 "Use the blue DIMM slots first."

The very next page (2-12 Recommended Memory Configurations) recommends populating DIMM_A2 and DIMM_B2 (the black DIMM slots) for dual-channel mode. WTF???

Any suggestions? Thanks again for your help!

Well, I just got my new RMA'ed combo in the mail today and have it up and running on a new install and haven't had an issue yet. I have the RAM in the blue slot and it seems to rock so far. I was beginning to worry that I made a mistake with this board and via chipset, but now it seems its a nice stable combo. Also, the RMA process for the EPP program is great as they pay for the shipping back to them and will ship the new one out first.

I have the K8V SE Deluxe motherboard and an AMD 64 3200+. A while ago I installed everything and got a "System Failed CPU Test" audible warning, so I sent the chip back and got a new one. I installed it about 5 minutes ago and I am getting the same message with a brand new chip. Any suggestions?

Does anybody else have the Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS hooked up to the SE Deluxe board? Can you use the Promise controller or does it have an error when the sound card is installed. The promise controller was working fine until I put the soundcard in, now it doesn't work. I have tried the 4 available slots (my video card is a TI4200 and it seems to cover part of slot 1) and they all do the same thing. Anybody have help for me? If not, the stuff may have to go back again in favor of an intel based solution which seems to work just fine with all Creative Labs products. Anyway, thanks in advance to all replies.
