I have a Question I am in on the EPP program but I only have PC2100 and PC2700 though it can run at 192mhz in my current rig. Is the CPU still going ot run at 2.2 Ghz??? I have never used a A64 so I'm not sure. And yes I will be upgrading RAM sometime I just don't have the money for it right now.

Try clearing the CMOS via jumper.

I have tried the 4 available slots (my video card is a TI4200 and it seems to cover part of slot 1) and they all do the same thing. Anybody have help for me? If not, the stuff may have to go back again in favor of an intel based solution which seems to work just fine with all Creative Labs products. Anyway, thanks in advance to all replies.

Jonny

I had a regular Audigy 2 on my regular K8V Deluxe(not exactly the same). AFAIK I never had a problem with the Promise controller while having the A2 installed @ the same time.

Maybe there's a IRQ conflict between the 2?

Doubt it, then again I'm not entirely sure.

I think you'll need ram that can go up to 220 MHz(440 effective DDR) for a 2.2 GHz OC since the multiplier on the 3000+(IIRC from "Hot Deals") is 10

i.e. 10 x 200MHz(default) = 2000 (2GHz)

That may not be your only obstacle. I've heard Raptors don't like outta spec PCI bus frequencies.

the EPP chips are NewCastle 3200's so stock is 200 x 11. OCing would be nice but I just want to run stock atleast lol. 192 x 11 would be 2112 which isn't bad just not up to snuff

I am sure that is what it is, but I don't know how to resolve it. As I said, I tried all 4 open slots and also changed the setting in the bios to Plug and play enable and nothing helped. It isn't a huge issue right now, but this is my storage/game server, so I can even have my cdrom hooked up since I have enough drives to fill all of the working controller cards. Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Just read up some stuff(since I was curious on this matter too :D) it appears more complicated than just upping the FSB and matching the FSB with higher frequency memory.

EDIT: Thought the EPP chips were NewCastle 3000's, hence thought the idea of OC'ing when you mentioned 2.2 GHz.

To the orginal Q, From what I've gathered the processor should operate @ 2.2 GHz with your ram.

Resetting the BIOS/CMOS usually works if your BIOS is @ fault with the wrong settings.

Yeah, I have tried that and this is actually the second such motherboard having this issue. I RMA'ed the first one since it wasn't stable. But, when it was stable, it was having a conflict with the Audigy 2, so it definitely doesn't look like it is an isolated issue and looks like it probably happens on all k8v se deluxes. I have tried all available bios's as well to no avail.

Are there any other PCI slot devices installed other than the Audigy 2 ZS? In other words are there any problems with other PCI slot devices when used in the K8V SE Deluxe or just the Audigy 2?

Nope, thats the only one. 1 AGP and this card. I have the promise controller enabled, and have disable onboard sound, game ports, floppy controller, and the serial and parallal ports.

I'm getting a buzzing noise on my system that seems to somehow be tied to CPU load. Can anyone else duplicate this?

Um ok I'm having that no video problem too! And I'm not sure if I can exchange or refund my board!

This is my first build but I think it's all hooked up. Everything turns on but I dont get any video (or audio) - The screen just wont boot. I originally used an ATI Radeon 7000 but just read it may not be compatible. But now after seeing this thread I' worried it'll be the same with my new card coming in a day or 2.

Has anyone fixed this no video crap or should I try desperately to exchange for an MSI Neo?

Hi
I am getting the same board with A64 3200. I am looking for 1GB of 3200, I looked at Corsair Twinx 3200. Is that memory compatible or what kind of memory will give me a stable system ??

seems like we got tons of techies here. Well, maybe you guys could help me too.

My asus k8v se deluxe/amd64 3200+ is on it's way. thanks FW. Now I am kinda juggling between other parts. First of all, there's the case/PS. I have one question, Is Antec's truepower better than Thermaltake's power. The reason I am asking this is because I was looking at Antec's Sonata case, which sells like $99, it's a great case with good True380S power. NOw there's Thermaltake's power, which has been quite good. Seems like I can get Thermaltake's power 480 for around 60. The thing is I am thinking of getting a poewr+case around 100. Which would be a better choice, getting a case for like 40ish + 60 (the 480w Thermaltake Power). Or the sonata case, which has is true380 power.

Currently, I am thinking of this following config:
mobo with stock fan.
2X512 PC3200 or PC3500 Ram, maybe mushkin, Crucial, kingston, kingmax, geil (they all seem to be quite good)
Geforce 3 ti200 (the one I got right now), which I am thinking of replacing it in the future depend on the budget.
2 hd
2~3 cdrw/dvd rom/dvdrw
few fans here and there.

Now, I guess that's the basic setup. So which is a better buy? Please consider if I do upgrade my graphic card in the future. Also, I am kinda intrigued by the whole overclock thing, maybe I will do a light trial. Used to just own intel's mobo, so never tried OC. So, please also take this into account, since I know power and case are important with oc.

Thanks for all the reply in advance. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

This board has no locks on the agp or pci, that being said, what you want is ram that will be compatible. According to the ram chart at Tom's , the Crucial is the most compatible with the most boards. It's also fairly cheap so why spend a bunch of money on memory that will not be fully implemented. Furthermore, the next board you get will probably be DDRII and will make this ram obselete and unusable.

Hi all,

Well, my first time building a PC has worked a treat! Just about all installed OK (thank God!) - couple of minor questions :

1) I am not gettting any sound from the speaker - no speech, nothing.

2) Also, my HDD light never works.

Seems like I might have something not working in the Sonata, as I connected all according to the manual/s?

3) Finally, I have Q-Fan enabled and sometimes the fan actually goes off - as in doesn't run at all! Is this normal? What temps would you expect to see the CPU normally?

thanks all

As far as the HD light, maybe try to plug the cable in the other way and see if it works then.

And I have had the same issue with Q-fan enabled and the CPU fan quit and damn near fried everything. Luckily I pulled the plug and rebooted and disabled Q-fan, so I would recommend against having this feature on.

I have yet to get Cool N' Quiet to actually work and lower the CPU speed, so I am not sure what the issue is. I have had 2 different boards and the followed the directions to a T and still nothing, but oh well, the rest seems to be working.

1) Install SoundMax audio drivers?

2) HDD light doesn't work on the VIA SATA controller. If you want the light, switch it over to the Promise controller.

3) AFAIK it's normal and CPU temps with Q-Fan enabled/CnQ disabled are @ around 51-53 C according to ASUS Probe and/or BIOS.

EDIT: P.S. #3 on my system & under full load.

IIRC the Athlon 64 automatically shuts down/off before it can damage itself via heat.

I have neither PSUs but from what I've gathered in the past, Antec is usually the PSU of choice. Although I've heard nothing but good things about the Thermaltakes.

GEIL hasn't failed me yet & why so many optical drives?

Finally, if you wanna OC your best bet would be to get a motherboard based on the nVidia nForce3 250/Gb or VIA K8T800 Pro chipset. As HocusFocus said, "This board has no locks on the agp or pci" which although doesn't mean the K8V can't OC, it will however make it more difficult.

Should be

If you really wanna make sure, you can check the K8V's memory compatibility list.
