I know on the MSI boards, there is a line in the bios about chassis intrusion. You can enable or disable it. Might want to check around in the bios to see.

I am putting together a AMD 64 system with a Asus KV8 motherboard, SATA HD (Samsung), Radeon 9800Pro, Corsair XMS TWINX 1G (512x2), Antec True 380W Power Supply.

First powering up the system and I have no video output.
Popped in a GF3 video card I have and still no video output.
Pulled all the data cable for the drives and removed all other cards, other than the video card.
Chassis Fan and CPU fan, and HD, CDRW all power up.
Also the system does not beep.
Are there any jumpers to set on the SATA HD? Its my understanding that SATA HD's do not use Master/Slave jumpers?
I have the drive connected to SATA1 connector.

Suggestions?

Well I hooked up the integrated sound and the motherboard is reporting with an audiable voice:
"CPU TEST FAILED"

So I removed the heatsink, cleaned it up, re-applied some heatsink compound, and it still reports the error.
I also connected up my Enermax supply just in case the new PS was faulty, and it still failed.

So is it really the CPU, or the MB, or something else?

Getting ready to RMA the CPU....

EglsFly, make sure that you conneted the four plug power connector from the power supply to the motherboard. Also, try one stick of memory and try it in every memory slot.

I have the K8v Deluxe with a 3000+ retail processor. I have trouble accessing the setup also. I have a Logictech USB keyboard. I can tap the delete key till I'm blue in the face and setup won't open. I have to plug in an old PS2 keyboard to edit my setup. It didn't start out that way. Don't know why or how it changed. You could try that, hope it helps.

I enabled Legacy USB suport in the BIOS and now the Logictech keyboard will access the setup.

I'm running a 36 gig Raptor as my only drive. Its hooked up through the via controller. MS Windows 2000 Pro is my OS. You have to copy the SATA driver off of the mother board driver disk or download them from Asus. Then you have to make a floppy disk with them on it and have it ready when you begin to install Windows. Hit F6 right away when the install begins and load the drivers into the OS. I got the info off the Western Digital site. Works for me.

I bought this board last week along with a Athlon 64 3400+ cpu from newegg.com. I've been having nothing but problems with Windows XP Pro and BSOD though. I sucessfully loaded Windows XP once, I installed updated drivers for everything and I still got random reboots and BSOD. I have been unable to re-install Windows and can no longer even boot to Windows (BSOD while booting and it restarts) I am running 1GB of PC3200 Corsair XMS (2x512MB) memory and I'm thinking this may be my problem. I have all settings for memory set to auto and have tried manually configuring it at 400MHz but leaving all else at auto.

I am going to try lowering the memory to 333MHz and see if that works tonight. I also checked Asus website and they have a very specific list of approved memory for this board. I might have to change memory to run this thing.

BTW-I've tried loading Windows on my RAID 0 array and on an IDE hard drive. It gets to a certain point and then BSOD. I've been working to get this resolved all weekend...my wife is barely speaking to me now.

See specs below.

Well, 333MHz worked. No more BSODs, no more random reboots. I have most everything loaded up and running. It seems that this board is very picky on memory and clock speed settings though. I would suggest to anyone having similar problems to try lowering the clock on your memory.

Thanks to everyone here and in the Technical Support forums for your tips/suggestions.

Planned on picking up the Asus K8V in an Athlon 64 3000 system I want to build. After reading the posts here, think I'll wait for the MSI to come back in stock at newegg. Wondering why you guys picked the Asus, reputation?

Reputation and speed ratings. I guess I didn't do enough research prior to my purchase. Still, now that this board is running stable I would buy it again. Just wish I knew then what I know now. :D

One more thing, the Asus manual lists DIMM slots 1 & 2 or slots 1 & 3 as valid locations for 2 512MB PC3200 DDR sticks. I had mine in 1 & 2 but moved one to slot 3 before I started messing with the clock speed. I am going to try upping the clock speed to 400 tonight to see if it was the memory location that was causing my problems or if it was memory clock speed.

I'm still at 333MHz right now. Haven't felt like messing with it since it is working so well right now.

Comment re: combination of ASUS with ASUS:
My new system is K8V with Athlon 64 3000+ and ASUS V9560 graphics (nVidia FX 5600 chipset).
BIOS booted fine but Windows never booted up at all -- until I replaced the CD-ROM supplied ASUS V9560 graphics driver by the newest driver on the ASUS website. Windows booted up OK then but I could not set any higher resolution or higher frame rate for the display adapter -- system froze as soon as I tried to access the display adapter's "Properties" ASUS info/settings etc.
Then I replaced the ASUS V9560 driver by the nVidia driver for the FX 5600 chipset. Now the display adapter runs fine and gives me all the frame rate and high-res settings to choose from.
(Yet when I try to run the "nView Desktop Manager" the system freezes again. But I might be able to live without the nView Desktop Manager...)

I wasn't sure myself, so I went and Googled for it. This is tranlated from German at HardTecs4U:
Already in our Review to the Athlon 64 3000+ we had mentioned the coming "CG" Stepping (up-to-date at present is" the C0"-Stepping) of the Athlon 64 with improved memory CONTROLLER, which was to make possible beside sharper RAM rAM-Timings now finally also the enterprise of three DIMM Slots in the DDR400-Modus. Further is the memory compatibility of Athlon 64-Systemen, with which it is not yet to the best one, so that are raised clearly. Whether also the over clock barness of the Athlon 64, as from some hardware sides states at present will be positively affected by the "CG" Stepping, one may however probably be waiting with some restraint.
Three DDR400 modules is a welcome improvement. I wonder what stepping my 3000+ is... I did snap some pics of it before installation, I better check that out sometime :)

I have a problem and hope someone here can help. My systems specs are at the bottom. When I run the 3dmark03, the CPU test 1 and 2 average at 2fps and a low total score, why? I compare it to others and something has to be wrong. I can even tell that on those 2 test, it switches to a different resolution, rather than the 1024x768 that it should be running at. I see this by clicking on the monitor button, and I can see the quality and window a different size. I think that has something to do with it causing such a low score there. Also, i noticed my AGP stated at 0x AGP, when dxdiag and BIOS has it at 8x???
Here is the link so you can see.

Welcome to the Forums KiLLaBEEz :) If you haven't done it already, make sure to install the VIA motherboard drivers from the CD that comes with the motherboard.

Thanks for the welcome and I will be a frequent poster now. Didnt know theere were forums here in anadtech. I would always rely on futuremark, for forums help. They are too hard on people that dont know much, so i hope this is much nicer. Again, hanks for the welcome.
Anyways, WHOA!! I saw them on the CD but didnt bother to, thinking they are already installed on there. Man that could probably be what it is huh. I swear i thought i only needed those if i had to clear the CMOS, but now that i think of it, i feel dumb. Man i hope that is what is causing problems in those CPU test, what do you think?
I will post if it worked when i get home from work in a couple hours=)

In reply to those that have problems with spontaneous rebooting / random BSODs:

Try to your FireWire and USB connectors. I experienced the above symptoms setting up my system last night until I removed nearly every component of my comp then reassembled piece by piece. The culprit for me was that I had connected the FireWire wrong, so I took disabled FireWire in the BIOS, removed the connectors and the problems went away.
