this is Lebron's ninth year. he could average a quadruple double ever game, but what do stats mean if he can't win? the problem is his personality. he's still an immature man-child. it's not his fault, but that's where he is at right now. can you imagine what magic or MJ would have done if they had lebron's body and athleticism? it's lebron's head that's the problem

Just imagine what LBJ would be like if he had gone to college - granted, that's not a guaranteed way to mature and develop your shot, but it probably would have helped him quite a bit.

I don't like Lebron. Having said that there really isn't a single talent better than him in the league. He has shown so far to lack the killer instinct of a Kobe, Wade, Jordan, Dirk, etc.. Maybe it'll turn on for him one of these days. He is getting late into his career to change but you never know.
As far as players I'd take over him: Rose, Kevin Love (yes I said it), Durant, D12. Not these players are more talented but also factor in they arent complete douches like Lebron either. If Dirk/Kobe were 5 years younger it's a no brainer but they're not.

Didn't include Wade since he's off injured and I see a massive decline coming for him soon. If Wade was 25 it's a no brainer as well.

Except if it's a close game (playoffs or finals) and the game comes down to the last minute - the star who disappears for the final minute isn't really that good. If they can't rise to the occasion when their talents are needed at the most crucial point, what good are they?

That's the thing. Teams that Lebron plays on do extremely well with him there, probably moreso than any single player lifts a team. Wins are what matters right? In that regard who in more dominant in influencing wins and losses for a team? Lebron has had plenty of big fourth quarter moments, I still have plenty of those games on file to watch.

I have seen many many many games (like last night against NY) where it is a tight game most of the way through before Lebron turns it on late and they end up with a double digit win. How is that less clutch than sucking for 47 minutes, failing to put the team in a position to win that entire time, and then making a basket or two in the final minute? Lebron put up another near 30-10-10 performance and scored double digits in the fourth quarter. It was a close game most of the way until Lebron turned it on in the fourth and it became a comfortable victory.

Not clutch though?

It is some arbitrary standard that has no real definition, it is the same empty suit campaign style that GW Bush and Obama got so good at. It is broad enough that anyone can fill in the holes with their own interpretations and feel like they have connected.

Anytime the Heat lose a game, it is immediately because Lebron isn't clutch. Does it matter that every player has been on teams that lose games? That teams Lebron plays for have some of the historically highest winning percentages? That "more clutch" guys like Kobe play at a much lower level, and bring offensive efficiency down to pathetic levels in closing situations?

Of course not. Because the whole thing is so arbitrary. Lebron has had many big showings late in games leading to victories. It all gets washed away because his teams do lose games from time to time. The whole idea that it is somehow better to play a terrible game, struggle and have your team on the brink of a loss only to make a key shot late in the game to win is preferable to playing a complete game for 48 minutes and never letting a team get close enough to need a game winning shot is silly. It is even more stupid to use that as a measure of greatness, as inconsistency should be something we celebrate.

Hell, Kobe isn't that clutch either (and I never said he was) but I don't remember seeing him quit on his team when they are playing.

Whoa. You are either playing dumb or being ironic hoping nobody would catch that your whole post is a joke. Nobody quits in more dramatic fashion than Kobe, nobody is a part of bigger flameouts.

I've never, ever heard anyone say MJ lacked athleticism. He was a premiere .0001% cream of the crop physical specimen.

Great game between Dallas and San Antonio. Mavs blew out the Spurs starting 5 then Pop brings in the bench waving the white flag then the Spurs bench nearly won the game. Mavs had to pull it out in OT.
Don't know whether I should be happy about the win or not. On one hand they pulled it out and a win is a win but on the other hand they got their asses handed to them by the Spurs second team? 😕

Dwight Howard is willing to play in Chicago now. It took him (and probably his handlers) a while to get there, but it is the PERFECT place for him to play. Both he and Rose are top tier players who are, and likely will continue to be, fatally flawed players. The thing is, their flaws are washed away by each other.

I've loved Rose since he came into the league, and the Bulls are one of my favorite teams to watch. A Rose/Howard led team will be engaging basketball and will hopefully come true.

Of course, if Howard goes to Chicago that means DWill won't re-sign with the Nets and will end up in Dallas instead. The dominoes on this can run for quite a while.

As long as we get one I'm happy. Although I'd rather take Howard over DWill. We've actually gotten good center play out of Haywood/Mahinmi this year. Our drop off this year has really been more of a result of Dirk and Kidd's decline.

What a great Wednesday night.

I'm trying to watch the Heat game (Lebron with 24 pts in the first) and the Bulls game (getting manhandled by the 76ers), wishing I could stream in the Mavs game (Thunder keeping it close) without my head exploding, all while checking the box score on the Wolves game which I can't tune into (Love with 9 boards in the first quarter).

This is turning out to be such an entertaining season.

The Mavs/OKC game has to be the worst ref'd game I have seen in awhile...

The Mavs are getting mugged underneath the basket and NO effin' whistles...

and OKC is getting away with murder...

I watched that Wolves game it was quite ugly. The Pacers play some great defense and George is a stud.

how about the dirk no call where ibaka was out of bounds when he threw the outlet pass...

Dirk is hurt or done, I don't know which? The more I watch him the more I'm reminded of Brandon Roy there at the end. He has some major knee issues going on. Dirk has never in his career looked so bad.

My TWolves are .500 for the first time since 2007!! Pek looks like a beast and Love/Rubio are studs. A competent wing could make this a scary team (a shot blocking center would also be nice).

Can you tell who is who, MJ vs. Lebron? And I have never heard MJ lacked athleticism either

I'll take Jordan's quickness, coordination, leaping ability. Lebron is bigger that's it. Being bigger does not equate to being the better athlete and definitely not being a better player.

Who expected what's happening in Philly to work out? I'm hoping they can carry it into the playoffs, it's pretty refreshing. Though, I'd like to see OKC vs. Miami in the Finals and Durant getting Finals MVP over LeBron.

Philly, Denver, and Indy are all playing very well. Those are three teams that could seriously threaten some "contenders" in a long, drawn out 2nd round 7 game playoff battle.

Denver and Indy have been building up, well Indy more-so than Denver. Indy has an incredibly young core with high potential but I still wonder about coaching. Philly really is out of nowhere, especially after the Brand and Davis clusterfuck that didn't happen, along with Iggy being unhappy. They're getting great production from a bunch of players you wouldn't expect without a true superstar. Highest PPG coming from your backup PG? Highest assists coming from your SF? 15+ PER for more than half the team? That's some really good coaching.

I love watching Denver and Indy. Lawson's quickness is actually useful unlike say, John Wall and the whole team is unselfish. Paul George is a nasty defender and his offensive game is coming along nicely. Portland even falls into this mold a bit though most people will discount that since they're mostly LMAs team but I just don't put him on the same level as a Kobe, Wade, LBJ, Howard.

Anyone paying attention to the Jeremy Lin story? He got his first chance with the mavs. He was awesome in the D league but never made it onto the mavs roster. Can't really blame them as no one saw this coming.
He seems to have good vision, deceptive speed, and finishes great around the rim. Chandler is returning to Dallas form now that he has some point guard play. I miss those lobs he grab over the top of guys. Pretty interesting watch if you guys enjoy rooting for the underdog.

it's a nice story. it'll be interesting to see what happens when amare and melo are back. the kid has the style of play that today's great point guards have, and he seems to be getting the confidence.

I don't know what's up with Melo but dude kills teams. Not sure if he's just snake bitten or what but any team he's on ends up sucking. Denver is better without him and now when he's out NY is getting on a roll.

No offense, but a lot of players are awesome in the D league so that doesn't really say a lot. Give him some more time before you hype him up because he'll round out in one way or another.

Also, the Knicks the underdogs? That's crazy, especially after last year and them pursuing the team they have now. If you want to cheer for an underdog, watch the 76ers or Pacers.
