intentional != flagrant

flagrant = possibility to injure

Not making a play on the ball but grabbing a guy midair with two hands and pulling him down is very possible to injure a player. If he wasn't midair it wouldn't have been flagrant.

In fact, we have seen countless times where a player is wrapped up to prevent a shot and no flagrant is called. It is always because the player is still on the floor. If you allow a player to grab a player midair and pull him down then we are playing football with no pads on a hardwood surface.

Any contact made while a player is going at a high speed or through the air would then be considered flagrant.

Per wiki, your definition is quite lacking:

NBA flagrant fouls
The NBA flagrant foul rule was enacted in the 1990s as an attempt to deter contact which, in addition to being against the rules, puts an opponent's safety and health at risk. The terminology in the NBA rulebook for contact that puts safety and health at risk is unnecessary and/or excessive contact. fum The NBA defines 2 levels of flagrant fouls, typically referred to as "Flagrant 1" and "Flagrant 2". Referees have discretion in determining which level to call, but the primary distinction is that a Flagrant 2 results in the immediate ejection of the offender. A player who receives two Flagrant 1 fouls in a single game is also ejected upon the second foul.

Westbrook was making a play to wrap LeBron when LeBron then went into the air to dunk it. Westbrook did NOT pull him down intentionally, in fact you see Westbrook's hand go loose and come off of LeBron's shoulder and down his back while the other one comes away from LeBron's waist. It's obvious he was going to wrap him up right before LeBron jumped. It wasn't unnecessary contact or excessive by any means and nor was it hard. Horry's foul on Nash in the playoffs was hard and flagrant. Fisher's foul on Scola in the playoffs was hard and flagrant also.

Wow. Chicago punked Miami last night even with only getting 2 points from Rose. Anyone else think they are actually a better team with him out? I've been watching them the last couple weeks while he was out with a strained groin and that team just grinds and plays as a very cohesive unit. The guys stepping up from the bench are just insane. The bench mob this year is even better than last.

No. Though motivated, without Rose, do you think they could really beat the Heat in a 7 game series? Doubtful - Miami has been the best home team in the league. Chicago might keep an even series for the first 4 games, but I think the Heat would win out. With Rose, that's a different story.

It is the same problem the Bulls will have until they sack Tibs or he radically changes his coaching style. They play at 100% for 48 minutes all regular season long. When the playoffs come, or the last 5 minutes of a playoff game come, they have no next level to take it to. You get what you get from them.

Compare that to any number of teams that play knowing they have a long season and need their legs down the road. They can, and do, step up and play at another level.

The Bulls playing in fifth gear can oftentimes beat other teams playing in fourth gear. That happened all last season and all this season. Once the other team (not just the Heat, other upper level teams) also go into fifth gear the Bulls weaknesses become apparent.

Tibs pushes his guys too hard, and they give off the appearance that they are better than they really are. This keeps the GM complacent as the look like they have everything they need to make a championship run. They don't.

The sooner they realize that playing in fifth gear all the time is not helping them, the better off they will be. If they weren't playing so well (so hard) then they probably would have pulled the trigger on Dwight Howard. Then they would likely be front runners for the championship. Instead they are bringing a collection of role players and one superstar (who happens to be oft injured now, ankle, back, groin, etc) who has an insurmountable weakness that no coaching or refinement of his game can overcome, his height. They will get shut down in the playoffs they way they did last year, and that will continue until they shake up their roster and their coaching (either style or the actual coach).

I disagree with this entirely, none so much as with the DH comments. DH is cancer.
