Haha Perknose, naysayer :) Hell no I wouldn't take that bet, but he's strung together a ridiculous season thus far.

I'm just happy that my White Sox are kicking ass. Smushing the Braves tonight too with the Tigers and Twins losing.

Remember back in his first or second year Jeff Francoeur was being compared to Willie Mays? Everyone falling over themselves to praise how great he was.

hahahaha. the good old days.

Happy with the way the Mets have been playing this month. They did very well in interleague play as well. They do need a starter and another reliever but so far everything pitching wise is going ok except for Johan Santana. I understand he's on a decline but he hasn't been good this month plus there is all that extra non-baseball stuff with him. They will play a series in puerto rico against the Marlins starting tonight.

The Phillies are now playing well and the Braves are still red hot. Shoot..the Padres are still red hot! lol

How about that clown Carlos Zambrano in his last start with that childish tantrum. The Cubs should just find a way to dump him even if it means eating up that awful contract.

Three words: Cano Triple Crown.

And I can't stand the NYY but jesus, this guy ate his Wheaties this year.

Hmm, how about the guy actually leading two triple crown categories right now :hmm:

Not going to happen though, Cano doesn't have the power and Miggy doesn't have the average. Oh wells.

Lots of division races have gotten interesting lately, mostly the NL East and AL Central. Should be fun.

Cano doesn't have the power? His SLG% is .593 (4th) vs Miggy's .624 (1st). He just doesn't swing for the fences e.g. way more singles.

The NL East is MUCH closer than I ever expected it to be at this point. However, the Phils have/had been in a pretty massive hitting slump for the past month. We'll see what happens from here on..

Obviously he has power, but I don't think he has "lead the league in home run" power. Similarly, Cabrera has a fantastic average (.320-something), but that's usually not going to win a batting title. I doubt Miguel leads the league in homers when it's all over either tbh, but he'll be ahead of Cano.

Those two and Morneau have really separated themselves in the MVP race I think, although there are plenty more still within striking distance.

It always interesting being a Padres fan. The Padres have the third highest win % in baseball, and yet all of us still expect them to end up in last place this season. Attendance is down 2% from last year, and last year was a horrible year.

Really though, I love how well the Padres are doing, but when you trade away the few stars we had, it's going to take a lot to get fans to show up.

15 games over .500, 4.5 lead over the division, 3rd best record (1st in the NL), Adrian hitting like a monster (and still not getting all-star voting respect), Venable's bat starting to heat up, Latos pitching like a staff ace and the bullpen just stifling bats in the late innings. I'm guessing you've had your faith restored rockyct? :D

Yes, my usual pessimistic Padres faith has been restored. I'm mainly just still wondering where the hell these good players came from.

Well, I think it's been all about the pitching this year. I can't find the stats, but I remember the bullpen being pretty bad the last couple years and they've really turned that around. They sure aren't out slugging anyone, but when your bullpen can keep the game close or hold slim leads, you're going to do well.

how bout them Rangers? We can open up a huge lead if we win the series vs. LAA this week.

and you're right, it has been. i just had to get my weekly jab at the past padres who could either hit or field, but not do both. (its been years now, we can joke about it now... right?) :hmm:

but yes, the bullpen has been fantastic. in fact here's a little gem that hopefully they aim for in these final june games:

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Padres' relievers are on track to be the first in Major League history to throw at least 50 innings in a calendar month, finish that month with an ERA below 2.00 and with a rate of 10 or more strikeouts per nine innings.

The Padres' bullpen has posted a 1.77 ERA over 71 1/3 innings so far in June, with an average of 10.85 strikeouts per nine innings.

Well, Zumaya just destroyed his elbow. I doubt we'll be seeing the 100mph master again before 2012, if ever.

Jim Thome moved into 10th on the all-time home run list with 2 home run's today. Moved past Harmon Killebrew.

Yep, his pitching mechanics are horrible and was an injury waiting to happen.
Seemed like more of a freak thing, although there's no doubt that he's incredibly injury prone. It's not even supposed to be possible to break your olecranon with a throwing motion.

That's good news though, really. I was expecting Tommy John. Zoom should be back by next spring, hopefully he has his velocity.

Fuck Frankie Rodriguez. K-Fraud is a fucking clown and an overrated piece of shit. Another high quality start by RA Dickey and this dope blows it.

<sigh> I know most closers aren't that great (except for that Terminator named Mariano) but man is Frankie wild on that mound. Go get 'em tomorrow.

+1, sigh. :(

At least the Mets only have to deal with this albatross for 1.5 more years.

And, since we're griping, Manuel's in-game managing sucks, too.
