And once again the umpires make it about them. We saw it with CB Buckner a couple times during the Yankees series this weekend wanting to make the dramatic call and getting it wrong. And now this umpire blows a call that would have culminated a perfect game...and it wasn't even close.

Serious regulation needed.

I didn't see it but from all accounts he was out by 3 feet? Can someone here confirm?

On the brightside this might bring about more instant replay to make sure calls are correct.

Wow, just wow.

Edit: This should be a Southwest commercial - "Wanna get away?..."

LOL at Bill Simmons' Twitter feed:

Silver linings: Instant replay now a lock; Galarraga's 28-out perfect game becomes legend; Hulk Hogan's mustache finally goes out of style.

:awe:

That was just an horrendous call. And even if it was close, one would expect the call to go the pitcher's way with just 1 out in a perfect game. Maybe he thought 3 perfect games in one year (hell 1 month) was too many.

And on a different note, Ken Griffey Jr announced his retirement. 630 HRs even with all of his injuries and as far as I know, no steroids.

Heeeey....the Mets finally won a road series this season. Of course its against the absolutely horrific Baltimore Orioles but dammit it counts!

Stephen Strasburg has won his first two games and it was a full house at Cleveland to watch the kid pitch. Looks like Strasburg will be pitching in full houses this season. lol Nice to see excitement for a young phenom pitcher. Its been awhile. btw..not only has run production been down in the big leagues (better pitching....less drugs too?) but there is quite a huge crop of rookies making names for themselves this season.

Nope. If anything, the pitching this year is worse all around. To some extent, the hitting is too. But, mainly, I think it's a focus on players who are more like Jeter and Gardner (to use some Yankees examples) than on players like the Matt Stairs and Jason Giambis of old. Guys that could only hit home runs, otherwise they were out because it took them 5 minutes to get down the line.

We're seeing, on average, less power and more line-drive type hitting. Which is, of course, OK by me because it makes the games more interesting to watch (even if Joe Girardi is possibly the worst manager in the big leagues when it comes to pitching change strategy).

That COL kid won again.

Too early to talk potential 30 game winner?

He's only going to get 32-35 starts if healthy. Tough to get enough decisions to reach 30.

Poor Cleveland fans. I saw all 3 games with the Mets, and Indians are terrible in the field. Brutal.

Talk all you wish, everyone will anyway. If I were a Colorado fan, I know I would be!

But there's a reason it's happened so rarely. Baseball is full 162 game season. There have been any number of half season supermen on both sides of the ball.

Yet over this long and grinding schedule, players tend to revert to the mean, no matter how spectacular they have been for any large portion of a season.

Remember this truism, applicable to ALL sports: You are never as good as you look when things are going all your way, and you are never as bad as you look when they aren't.

Still, what the hell, get on that bandwagon and ring that bell1 Ride that inevitable wave of hype like you were the golden surfer boy you always dreamed you were!

Live the vicarious dream!

Just remember, over the full schedule, shit happens. That's why they play them all, my friend.

Ok, so maybe it's too early.

But he's 13-1 just under a month from the all-star game. And no one can hit him.

Cool, then, I'll put up $200 to your $100. Bet? :)
