Can you pause during cut scenes (even if it has to be done by using the guide button to bring up the Xbox UI blade)?

One thing that has infuriated me about cut scene-intensive games is the inability to pause. It's something that is so simple to do yet no one seems to do it. This is especially annoying in the Metal Gear Solid series. I don't always have an hour of non-interruptible time available.

you can pause anytime by pressing start, except for when you are in the party/equipment/general settings menu, in which case the game is already "paused" anyway.

This is what I would normally expect, but most games will skip the cut scene (or do nothing) if you press start.

WHAT IF I HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM?! :|😛

Might I suggest one of these for long cut-scenes in Lost Odyssey and the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII?

😉

Yea, that stuff can get really frustrating. Being able to skip or pause at any time is really nice.

That's hilarious. Maybe I'll just have to mount an LCD and PS3 in my bathroom for MGS4. 😛

Ok, I finally got to put in some serious time with the game over the weekend. I'll try to summarize my thoughts as much as possible.

1. The cut scenes are wonderful. I love how they are using them so far to provide character development on someone who is over 1000 years old. I can understand why some may not enjoy them, but the way I see it is that if one of the main reasons you are playing a JRPG does not include the story and dynamic character development then you should be playing something else anyways. I do not find the frequency (or infrequency depending on your POV) to be a problem especially since they can be skipped if you are not in the mood and you can refer to any of them later in time. More or less, if you enjoyed the frequency of cut scenese from FF10 then you most likely will not have any issues and enjoy it.

2. Battle system is awesome. So is the level/skill system. I really love how they basically combined aspects from FF9, FF10, and even FF1 to create these systems while also adding in several new twists such as spell cast times/delays and the GC meter. It adds a good amount of strategy and fun to the fights.

3. Jansen....yes. My priorities would be getting hammered and banging hookers before going on missions where death is near certain too.

4. The story in general is developing very well. It is very dynamic and I love how they are really into political controversies and the growing pains involved with new politics. On top of that, it keeps you guessing and anxious to have more facts revealed. Your suspicions about what is really going on will continue to change throughout the game which really entices me.

5. Level grinding. There is very little that is necessary if you are good at turn based RPGs and you utilize everything available to you to optimize your chances in a battle from the assembly rings to the use of consumable items. There are times where it will be preferred to grind a little bit, but if you are the type who enjoys exploring and side questing as you progress through the main questline then this really shouldn't be much of a problem. If you are the type where even a little bit of leveling bothers you a lot then you may wish to never buy any RPG again anyways unless it is specifically designed to avoid this which most are not.

6. Problems with graphical rendering/short freezes/load times. First, load times are not bad at all in comparison to previous final fantasy games. The only conclusion I can reach about those who are complaining is that they are very much not used to previous FF and other JRPGs. The game does a good job to distract you with mild entertainment even during the load times. However, I feel that much of the initial frame rate issues that are encountered in the game could have been avoided if they just added an extra second or two loading. The framerates and freezes bother me much more than load times. Although even that problem is considered mild to me overall. I also believe that many of these issues will be patched in the future so all is well in my mind.

Overall, I have to say I love this game. I have been begging for a quality FF like JRPG since FF10 and nothing has even come close to satisfying me since then. This game does that for me. It is exactly what I was looking for minus the frame rate issues which will more than likely be patched.

I'm a few hours into the 2nd disk and still enjoying the game. Now I'm having a tough time deciding who should be in my party.

why does the queen have such veiny breasts? 🙁

Well there are 25 hours worth. lol

I think I'm going to rent it to see if I like it.

If you're not into cutscenes you might not like it; however they have included a way to skip alot of them, which is nice sometimes. I have been drawn in by them though a few times as the story line is pretty cool, and there was a twist/event I did not see coming that I hit last night.

Which combo of characters is everyone using? I'm having a tough time deciding, sometimes wishing I could have em all in there.

She is pretty hot.

Can you play this game for shorter periods of time, or do you have to play 3-4hr at a time? Are there save points, or can you save anytime?

Judging by the gametrailers video review, there are save points, but apparently they are plentiful.

I'm thinking of picking this one up, although I've not put the time towards an RPG in years. I think the last one I played was FFX.

So far, this one is panning out to be pretty darn epic and does have the potentiol to be one of the best JPRGs I've played in a long long time. I'm only on disk 2 (2 more to go), so we'll see where it goes.

Save points are plentiful and always seem to be where they should (before boss battles and such)--no complaints there.

x2 plenty of save points in the right places.

Still on disk 2 as well. Getting exciting, beat the mansion part last night with the Old Sorceress.

I just completed that area too! What a great section of the game! I loved the gameplay, atmosphere and story there.

Very cool stuff.

I'm in disc 3 now, Gongora is such a douche.

I'm sticking with team immortal and Jansen (go go 3 people with composite magic!)

Am I the only one dumb enough to not realize (or bother to look at) what slot seeds did?

I'm using all 4 immortals and rotating mortals so that I can learn every skill.I usually put Jansen in for boss battles, because the rest of the mortals are pretty useless.
