If all Cabrera did was slide hard into Cairo, then you shouldn't cry about that. It's totally legal.
Actually, Cabrera hit Cairo well after Cairo had released the ball. And he was fairly blatant about coming up to hit him, actually well after his slide was over. If Cabrera hit him while he was releasing or just releasing the ball, it would have been no big deal but that wasn't the case.
Hmm didn't see it... Cabrera in the least should have been warned then, and if it was a hard hit that could have possibly injured Cairo, then yes he should have been fined/suspended too.
Hard slides trying to break up a double play has been and always will be part of baseball. As a second baseman, when you turn to relay to first, you know and expect that the baserunner is gonna come bearing down on you to try and disrupt the play. It's part of the game. I'm a Red Sox fan and I don't think there was anythign malicious with ARod, he tried to score Jeter and almost got away with it. Why can't we just agree that it was 1) a great game, 2) Schilling was a monster basically unhittable out there on one ankle. and 3) thank god we have another instanst classic coming up tomorrow.
🙂
I agree with all your points. Kudos to Schilling for a good game. Looking foward to Game 7. But people calling Arod out and asking for fines/suspensions is absolutely ludicrious. It upsets me that people like Sp33Demon, who clearly never has played the game himself, would rather impose strict rules than letting the players play. He is a self-proclaimed Red Sox fan, but the Red Sox fans I know would rather their players play with their hearts, as Arod did, and not go on worry about fines for swatting a ball.
I've played baseball since age 10 to varsity high school ball, you don't know anything about me so it shows how classless you are to make baseless assumptions about somebody.
Yes Schilling pitched a helluva game on blood, sweat, and tears. He earned his weight in gold tonight!
Hopefully classy Torre will set that punk Arod straight: "That's not how you play the game, son. I don't expect anymore stuff like that."
Yes anyone can say that they have played baseball since whatever age. I'm sure you even did play. But when you played were you worried about being thrown off the team for trying harder and wanting to win. You still never responded to my statement: "He [meaning you] is a self-proclaimed Red Sox fan, but the Red Sox fans I know would rather their players play with their hearts, as Arod did, and not go on worry about fines for swatting a ball."
When I played, batted over .500 as a leadoff hitter and went undefeated (22-0) as the first JV team to go undefeated (look it up, Lenape High in Medford NJ 1995), I never knocked the ball or glove off of anyone's hand. I have too much respect for the game and players to do something as classless and unsportsmanlike as that. Never, in my 9 or so years playing the game in organized leagues, have I seen anything of the sort happen. If anyone had done that on my team, you would not have had any of our respect. If you're good (like we were), you don't need to resort to cheating to win.
Congratulations on destroying pitchers in Medford NJ, I'm sure mom was very proud. Being that you were on such an incredible team, I'm sure that you were never in a game of this magnitude, this close of a game so you would have no idea what it means to play in such a tight game. Comparing yourself to professional baseball players is the stupidest thing in the world. First off, its you. Second, you don't deal with millions of fans who want to win as bad as you do. Your knowledge and opinion has always been in question, now there is no question about your lack of either. Grab another beer, your going to need it.
Well put, I can't believe that guy still speaks, what a downer in an otherwise decent thread. Lenape High School, wow. Beat up on Shawnee? awesome dude.
Everyone is overreacting. He didn't hit him in the face or anything, if he wanted to hurt them, then just run right over those two weaklings since they were in the baseline.
Oh my goodness, I just reread that and you said JV, as in NOT varsity. WOW that is hideous.
