He should instruct his people to watch what they say, it seems the petty squad is out to jump on any little insignificant thing to chastise him.

Its petty to force a large group of people to do something and then for you yourself to do something else?

By your logic its ok for execs to get billions in bonuses even though their companies are failing too I suppose?
OK Speckflop, what is he doing that he tells others not too?

Drive SUV's. Have you seen the Presidential motorcade? :) Armored SUV's by the dozens!!!

Where is he FORCING people to do what he said?

Huh? Do you know what hypocrisy means?

Edit - Also, did you bother to read the question that I was answering?

Well you're wrong, he's not driving any SUV's.

Maybe not, but his last car was a leased 2005 300C with a Hemi. A car with about 14-17 mpg city. Not much better than many large SUVs.

Just as he started his campaign, he traded it for an Escape Hybrid.

Can you taste the hypocrisy yet or are we still in denial?

Seriously? That's all you got? The man who tells us we're all wasteful and need to conserve drives one of the highest gas guzzling sedans and keeps his heat on high and you don't think that's hypocritical?

Seriously, Red. You're better than this. At least admit the guy is full of the classic "do as I say, not as I do" routine.

First of all where does he say not to turn the heat up to 72 degrees? What he said is not to keep it at 72 degrees for 24 hours. Secondly he switched cars to a more fuel efficient one just like he suggested others do. There's no hypocrisy found.

You're better than this but then you never admit it when you're wrong even if you say you do.

I'kll give you that he switched, but only when his campaign started. In his real life, he was no conserver driving one of the highest gas guzzling sedans you can buy. At least he made one change for appearences, even though he'll never drive that Escape for the next 4 years. Also, even though a hybrid, the Escape IS an SUV.

Meanwhile, the NYT article is clear, "He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there."

That means one thing: He keeps it warm enough to be comfortable in shirt sleeves while the rest of us are told to bundle up and turn down our thermostats.

I like my house warm too so I keep it at 68 degrees during the day and turn it down at night when I go to bed. I have it at 68 right now and I'm in short sleeves. You're graping at straws boy.

He didn't say "24 hours a day" he said "at all times." You and I BOTH know he wasn't talking about turning down the thermostat at night, Red. He was talking about not having it at 72 year round. Which means colder in the winter and hotter in the summer. Which means we are supposed to be uncomfortable to "save the environment." A sacrifice he is obviously not making himself.

Nice try, but fail.

No way knucklehead, at all times means having it at 72 degrees constantly which means 24 hours a day.

You can call me all the names in the book you want. But we both know what the environmental movement has been telling us to do, don't we? We both know they have been saying to make it cooler in the winter and warmer in the summer to save energy. We both know that's what he was refering to.

Poor Red.

BTW, Google obama +"72 degrees" to see that I'm not the only one seeing this hypocrisy. This is all over the web now.

Obama made it clear that we cant drive what we want, eat what we want or be as warm as we want... yet he does just that. It's hypocrisy, Red

Befuddled Amused. Of course it's all over the Web, there are plenty of people like you who are being petty just to try and marginalize Obama, hell just look at this forum.

I'll tell you this, if you can show where he keeps the temp in the WH at 72 degrees constantly (24 hours a day year round) and drives a gas guzzling SUZ then I will join you in calling him a hypocrite.

"And, ah, keep our homes on, ya know, 72 degrees at all times whether we're living in the desert or we're living in the tundra"

That's the quote, Red. He isn't talking about turning down the thermostat at night and you know it. He's talking seasonally, regionally and about being comfortable. So just stop.

"Hot enough to grow orchids" during a period of temps in the teens in DC. THAT is hypocrisy, Red.

And he drove one of the most gas guzzling sedans one can buy. THAT is hypocrisy, Red.

This isn't petty, Red. This is someone who is saying we cannot drive what we want, eat what we want or heat/cool our homes as we like... but he does JUST THAT.

No it isn't Amused. If he kept it at 72 degrees constantly then it would be

And he doesn't anymore. Hypocrisy not found

LOL!!! He made it CLEAR that the temp was SEASONAL and GEOGRAPHICAL. NOT a 24 hour thing, Red. How much more do you need?

And yes, he does just that, Red. Hot enough "to grow orchids" when it's in the teens outside, Red.

No, he doesn't drive that sedan anymore. He rides in a motorcade now. But when he was in the real world, he drove one of the lowest milage sedans one can buy.

This is really sad coming from you. That you so willfully defend and support a guy who wants to dictate what you drive, eat and keep your thermostat on, while not doing it himself much less, is absurd.

Yeah, straws made of tropical plants.

THE IDEAL TEMPERATURE
To produce beautiful, long-lasting blooms, orchids must produce energy in the form of carbohydrates during the day when the temperature is high and store that energy at night when the temperature drops. This temperature fluctuation is necessary for orchids to bloom. Without a day-night fluctuation of 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit, the plants will grow plenty of healthy foliage but may stubbornly refuse to flower. A night temperature of 60-62 degrees F is ideal for optimum growth, but temperatures as low as 55 degrees F will not harm your plant. Daytime temperatures should range between 70 and 80 degrees F. Temperatures as high as 90-95 degrees F for short periods will cause no harm, however, as long as proper humidity and air circulation are maintained.

edit:

You could keep it at 70 and still grow orchids.

First of all he didn't dictate anything, he suggested. He's not in a position to dictate what we eat, what we drive or how hot we keep our homes. Secondly as you can see by dawps post, hot enough to grow orchids doesn't mean it's 72 dergrees at all times (24 hours a day year round) Thirdly he did get rid of his gas guzzler like he suggested we do.

No hypocrisy found.

Maybe he meant 'we' as a country, suggesting legislative and regulatory proposals that would affect all Americans, himself included. This could be a possibility since, you know, he was running for a public office that would deal with that. Just a shot in the dark here.

If you think a new law should be enacted, do you follow that new law starting from they day you think of it, even though it's nowhere on the books? Of course not, that would be really dumb. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Obama thinks taxes should be higher on those making more than $250,000. Does that mean he should start sending envelopes full of cash to the government now? Of course not, that would be really dumb.

You know ,Amused, there are pages all over the internet from people who want smoking banned in bars and restaurants.

Is this the defense you're down to? Other people agree with you, therefore your argument has validity? Please tell me that you now believe this an effective argument, so I can have fun in future threads.

The phrase that it can't be 72 at all times, clearly indicates that's it's okay if it is 72 at some times. That is indisputable. What temperature does Obama have it? How long is at it's highest point?
