That is why he started between 10-20% disapproval?

[/quote]Well all of the hysterical hair on fire whining that you guys have been effective with those of your ilk. In addition the American public was so relieved to get rid of Bush and the Republicans it had a positive effect on Obama's ratings

I think until the economy show marked improvement Obama's rating will continue to go down, it's predictable and would/ will happen no matter who was in office.

The movement the polls are reflecting is almost entirely among "independents" who now contain a large chunk of people who in the past several years stopped calling themselves republicans probably from embarrasment, though thats still how they vote most time. Dems approval is still 90%, Rep approval is still at 25%.

Look, people on the right will disagree with Obama's policies and will not approve of his performance, just like people on the left will approve of him no matter what he does. It's the people in the middle that matter.

The super-high ratings early on (IMO) were the result of a general public weary of the debacle that was Bush, people ready for genuine change. There are a lot of folks who, while not Obama fans per se, were/are willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. They didn't buy into the right-wing message that Obama was a hard core socialist blah blah. It seems to me like a lot of those fence sitters are getting increasingly uncomfortable with what they are seeing in terms of government intrusion into the private sector, government-run health care, and long term government spending. Both parties have a deplorable record on fiscal conservatism, but the (proposed and/or approved) spending levels we're seeing now (deficits into the trillions for the foreseeable future) are unlike anything anyone has ever seen. I'm certainly not a right-wing-nut, but I'm uncomfortable with what I'm seeing. Three or four months ago, if surveyed, I would have "cautiously approved" of the overall performance, but at this point if polled I would have to move to "disapprove" or "strongly disapprove". That sentiment is reflected in the polls. I live in Ohio, and apparently my sentiments are shared by many in this state:

The survey by Quinnipiac University released today showed 49 percent of Ohio voters approved of Obama?s job performance, down from 62 percent in a May 6 poll. The disapproval figure for Obama in the new poll was 44 percent, up from 31 percent in the May survey.

As Red pointed out, if the economy picks up, this means nothing and his numbers will skyrocket. However, given the disaster that is cap & trade, and record levels of deficit spending, I don't think you're going to see the economy pick up in any significant way any time soon.

Gallup has Obama gaining today, up 1 point over yesterday. He should be back over 60 points by next week.

Haha.

Sounds like a mandate to get health care reform passed this week.

As the economy goers so goes Obama's ratings. That's why the Republicans (well those not effected b ythe economy) want the economy to keep tanking.

Hey Craig, gonna post in the Obama/dentention thread?

No, I didn't think so. You're an idiot, a coward, and a hypocrite. Which is probably why you vote Democrat to begin with.

Real men vote third party.

real men throw their votes in the trash like you huh?

Real men vote for candidates that have zero chance of winning, so they never need to stand up and defend their ideology! You're a real tough guy there, Boberfett.

Dumb citizens vote for politicians like Messiah who promise them things but reverses whenever it is politically convenient. Our country won't have a political system that functions well without more parties.

D=R. They all suck. They caused all the problems. Give people real choice. Vote all of their asses out.

i agree.

but even then that won't work. is not t he parties that cause all the problems. its the fact that once someone gets into a position of power the only real job they have is keeping that power and getting more.

so even if we did vote out all the D and R's nothing but the names would change. What really needs ot happen is a ethicial and moral change.

Which is exactly why we need Congressional term limits.

that would do nothing

Agree. How dare people hold him accountable for backing out on things like wiretapping, fvcking the deficit into the stratosphere, and his main economic package being obscenly impotent.

proof?

Guess you are a Democrat.

Calling most people idiots isnt the nicest thing to do, if you are a liberal you should be nicer as you are supposed to believe in Freedom. 🙂
being nice has nothing to do with freedom.

As an Independent, I would strongly recommend you read both Common Sense Books. Glen Beck put out a new one and it has the old. He very clearly (even idiots should be able to get it) outlines the issues with current government. Oh and both parties suck...
glen beck is a crackpot. generally he is a very good barameter for what policies not to pursue.

Exactly -- most of whom also happened to vote for him. Now you're getting it.

Actually if you break down the polling data - the ignorant and uneducated vote republican by a large margin. The college educated voted for Obama by a HUGE margin.

idk, I went to college with a ton of idiots... they mostly used macs 😉
i used to think that most people in college are fucking imbeciles, then i got a job, and realized just how stupid the average person is.

It appears the independents are migrating towards the (R) party due to fiscal conservatism.

actually that pretty much has been their platform since reagan came into office

i'm not surprised by the poll numbers.

shit sucks... obama isn't a messiah... things take time to work. i'll wait a year before i put a vote on whether or not i disapprove with obama's performance so far.

people are so hasty to have a result. i guess it's typical of american culture, but people need to calm down and give things some time. patience.

Dang. Whether you leave it as Obama or substitute any other politician's name in that statement, I think it's the truest thing I've read on P&N in years.

I hate agreeing with you. 😛
