Question:

I just got my keep, I have found many ore veins before getting the keep. Will all the ore veins that I have discovered thus far contribute when I talk to the mining lady or will I have to go and find "use" them again?

I would say they should expand the keep features in future expansions, expansions do not look good right now at the rate it is selling (isnt it in the bargain bin at some places now?). The keep is good for an economic simulation minigame. Maybe this will send a message to Atari to allow their developers to finish games instead of forcing them to release it too early (with loads of bugs) and cut content. Seems like they would have learned that from the whole Lucas Arts / KOTOR2 thing.

atari is waay too stupid ... they will blame the Devs 😛

and it went bargain bin in 5 weeks [$25] and then again a few weeks later ... i still see it at full price too

frankly, i think they could have cut some of the content for a much tighter game and storyline ... it drags in a lot of places and the first half was painful.

i am really not looking forward to NWN3 if atari is publishing it 😛

BTW, i got my Sapphire x1950p 512MB in AGP today ... actually have to admit that NWN2 looks beautiful ... in places ....

everything is maxed [except the textures and maps - 'med'] except soft shadows 'off' and reflections on ... even a touch of AA/AF

... might be the latest drivers

and PREY is *beautiful*, btw ... the pinnacle of what the Doom3 engine can do ... $20 'everywhere'

i got really sick of it ... and finished the last ten hours or so [in ~1/2 hour], i guess in god mode ... i just totally lost interest ... but since i put many dozens of hours into it i wanted to see its ending

overall, the game is really confused .... the Story - although interesting *in places* cannot sustain interest over the many hours it unfolds. it could use 1) severe "editing" [cut the *filler content* about 30%], or 2) develop it [a lot] further

At LEAST the first half is *wtf* and unfolds SLOWLY ... painfully slowly ... and the rest is pretty *obvious* as to what is coming ... there are NO *twists* that you cannot see telegraphed a mile away ... nothing equivalent to the "i am your father, luke" shocker.

as so many of you said the important thing in NWN2 is *the Story* ... and imo it is a complete *failure* ... it is really illogical

actually , the Ending was *satisfying* ... just what i expected ... and all the new games seem to conclude identically with the [boring]*epilogue*

but who cares "what happens" ... we 'won', didn't we? ... and it is no LotR [although it copies it and sets up for the xpack] 😛

i'd call it *horribly uneven* ... and as it gets *harder* the AI really screws up ... i even had my own party member attacking each other in the middle of a boss fight

the Characters ... perhaps except for Kehlgar, the gnome and perhaps Sand are *pathetic* ... did ANYone care for Bishop? or Qara? . . . and that squeeky-voiced she-devil? no wonder i had no influence with her ... just wanted to kill her much more slowly

voice acting - very uneven ... and a lot of the dialogue was never finished

the game varied from ridiculously easy to very hard ... sometimes 'weapons' and spells simply didn't work - even in "puppet mode" ... SQs were broken, the game looks "raw" - still.

ANd did i mention *linear* ? ... where was the *RPG freedom* ... or even the illusion of freedom?

the world map transitions were suck ... [period] ... the tiny levels were generally dull and uninspired and there was *NO interaction* with the environment
graphics are nothing special whatsoever ... just like KotOR with nice spell effects
[that sometime obscure what you are trying to do]

they tried to do a *lot* and succeeded at nothing ... Crossroads Keep was a great idea ... but whether it was a Ruin or a Fortress really made no difference ... all that RUNNING back-and-forth a WASTE of time like grocery shopping.

reforging the sword was just *silly*

somewhere after the Keep Battle, i said the HELL with it and just walked thru the rest ....

i really liked the *possibilities* ... but not the finished product ... overall i'd give it a 4/10 ... a game i couldn't finsih and just didn't care about ... although i *tried* much more than with many other games. 😉

i'd place Oblivion with all it's faults way [WAY] way ahead of this unfulfilled and unfinished garbage. Gothic 3 was about the same *overall* experience as NWN2 ... although i had many more enjoyable hours with it because at least 9/10ths of the story was *excellent*

there isn't much else in D&D games i could compare with NWN2 -- expect Kotor series ... and it just blows away this game in every regard although the fighting is similar [suck, imo, compared to FPS].

for me ... Never NWN2 ... and i won't even bother to look at NWN3 ... or the original 😛

you actually LIKED the ending? WTF is wrong with you?😛 almost everyone on the NWN forums agrees it sucks horribly... you like a $hitty ending, and hate the rest of a good game... you're all screwed up, apoppin 😉😀

and yeah.. you're not supposed to like qara or bishop if you're not evil/power hungry, etc (i thought qara was a whiny b!tch). i didn't mind neeshka - thief = sneak attack + disable traps and unlock doors. i HATED grobnar, what an annoying little fvck😀

You NEED to find those Chapter One ore deposits IN chapter 1. When you make it to chapter 2 most of their locales are removed from the map.

And yes, there was no freedom and the only illusion of freedom came from accessing the map screen and picking where you wanted to go. But like I said, between chapters most of those locations disappear and you wont see them again.
In BG 2 you could access just about everything at the end of the game, even the Underdark. If you got to Suldenesselar and realized you were missing a good item or weapon, you could always go back and get it, except for the stuff in the Opening Dungeon. But everyting in there eventually gets replaced by much better equipment, so that one doesnt really matter.

And yes, even KOTOR 1 and 2 had more freedom. After you get through the starting planet you can go to any planet you like in any order. Each planet had multiple areas you could visit as your leisure, and some of them not at all.

i believe you can exploit a bug to get back into some of the earlier maps thru the ruins even in Ch III .... but this game is very disappointing for its lack of *freedom* - or the illusion of freedom - in a RPG.

Looking back, my opinion of this game gets lower and lower. I would have to say that this is easily the worst 'CRPG' I've played in quite a while. It ranks well below any of the previous Bioware or Black Isle games, such as BG I/II, PS:T, Fallout I/II, and KotOR. NWN1 had more going for it I think, which isn't saying much - at least there wasn't this much railroading.

I prefer all of Troika's releases to NWN2: VtMB, Arcanum, and even ToEE, as buggy and brief as it was.

Insipid is a good way to descibe it.

The 'evil' ending still gets the slideshow, except that you've joined forces with the KoS, killed your companions, and mutilated Dhaegun.

thanks ... i couldn't stomach much more of it ... playing as *evil* the only thing i would have enjoyed doing was killing the companions ... i seriously thought of going it *alone*... and especially Dhay-glo [what a stereotype "dud dad"] and Neeshka ... oh yeah ... Qara over a slow fire ...

Best you can hope for is a mediocre game with good graphics that is not that buggy.

i agree that Oblivion is not D&D RPG ... but is hybrid ... but the people that said Oblivion stinks were also the people - including the OP - who recommended NWN2.

This is why. That short listing is the product of only a few months of community involvement. Look at NWN1, and the perhaps terabytes worth of modules, hakpaks, and more, to see what a few years of community work creates.

I wish the guy that made the Tales of Arterra series would make some, but his website has not been updated since 2005🙁

typically these *complete* remakes take 3-5 years ... don't get too excited ... many of these ambitious projects never are completed.

and noting *special* about the NWN2 engine ... in 5 years even less so

i am just hoping you guys are right about the mods ... especially the real story tellers

I check for Oblivion content now and again. Seems to be mostly weapons, armor, and various other item additions to the game.

I haven't seen any total conversions for Oblivion yet.


Schadenfroh, those mods really do take years to complete. During those years, members of the team often lose interest and move on to other projects. Unfortunately, this means the final project is never completed. 🙁

If they'd let Avellone do all the writing they'd be better off - he wrote most of the story and characters for PS:T. For NWN2, he was relegated to writing a few of the party members - Khelgar and Sand were two of his. He had no involvement in the story, which does indeed seem like it was written by a room full of 10-year olds. And someone should've figured out that it's "I couldn't care less".

And yes, the NWN2 engine is not only dated, it's one of the worst hogs I've encountered for what it's trying to do.

ah, khelgar and sand were the two best characters, IMO.. no wonder 🙂
