you seem to be saying that you enjoyed the *spoken story* [which i also found 'interesting' - *in places*] and the party combat [which IS the 'hook' in D&D fighting games, for some people ... the almost infinite control of minute details]. i acknowledged these +pluses+ but was derailed by the unevenness of *everything* ... the deep flaws i listed

i never played BG2 ... but what did you think of KotOR series? ... for example ... i played both games ... and in many ways they are 'similar' ... i just feel KotOR *executes superbly* for a RPG but NWN2 *ultimately fails* for me.

and you are not encouraging me to pick up NWN whatsoever :p

:)

no, i did enjoy it very much. i also didn't have ANY problems, save for a quest bug (which i had to reload a save, no problem, it's happened in BG2 before) and a couple of ore spots didn't work.

sadly, i have not play KoToR. i've heard nothing but great stuff about KoToR1, and that KoToR2 was good, but not the same caliber as the first

pick up NWN diamond edition for like $15 - NWN OC is terrible, but HOTU is lots of fun, and the multiplayer content is virtually unlimited (that's what really made NWN1 great). definitely worth picking up if you enjoy NWN-style play and want some good multiplayer action :)

oh i just remembered - leveling. the pacing of NWN2, i felt, was pretty solid. levels weren't so frequent that you were overpowered, but not so rare (NWN1 OC) that you wondered if you'd level at all.

OK ... the *only* thing i can think of is that you and a few people got the *good NWN2* and i and a bunch others got the *evil NWN2*

strangely ... ALL my ore spots worked fine

:D

if you like D&D .... good heavens ... get KotOR ASAP!!!

it is beyond awesome

KOTOR is a great game(KOTOR2 not as good but decent),speaking of awesome games BG2 and Planecape Torment are favourites for many gamers.

Getting back on topic to NWN2,I found the stability excellent since the game never crashed at all from start to finish ,which is amazing.

The ending difficulty I think depends on what characters you end up with for the final battle.

NWN2 was enjoyable IMHO,but not the classic I was expecting, NWN expansion pack Hordes of the Underdark blows it away.

I have just gone crazy and ordered another 2GB of ram for my future RPG games :).

I am going to buy Kotor2 when it is in the state that it should have been when it was released. That is, the entire chapter is added back that Lucas Arts forced Obsidian to cut out of the game in order to ship it early:

http://www.team-gizka.org/

I give it a 95% chance of being vaporware, that being said, I will probably never buy it.

if you guys could *stand* to play NWN2, *nothing* should keep you from either of the KoTORs ... the fans have completed much of it already and at least the story is *coherent* and the character development - excellent

by the time the 'patch' is released, it'll be $100 on eBay ;)

Tell you the truth, I enjoyed the bulk of NWN2, I am near the end of Act II right now and it is getting very dragged out, I hope it will get better, but I have not been able to bring myself to play it for the past few days, so I am calling it quits until my issues with it get fixed via patches, PlaneScape: Torment and Calculus time!

good plan

the End of Act II/Act III is where everything got *unraveled* for me ... i can't bring myself to play it again ... it will stay in the box 'till i hear from the OP that there are good mods

and ...

get KotOR II [!]

:D

and i'll stop bugging you guys ... what you liked is what i wanted to like also ;)
it just didn't *do it* for me ... and the performance issues completely *killed it* --for me

i'm glad *some of us* enjoyed it

Bah tried to play it again tonight, screw this, going to remove it from my PC, shelve it, and purge SecuROM 7 from my system. This game is at least a few major patches away from being finished. By then, I should have an affordable quad core CPU, Geforce 8900 GT, Windows VISTA (with Kernel Guard to stop the rootkits) and summer vacation and be able to run it at a decent frame rate without running into so many bugs, so much potential for a great game, damn Atari.

Hehe or NWN3 by then ;),I'm currently replaying Might and Magic 8 on my XP,found a patch for the game so you can run it in XP with no problems, game is old and dated but has replay value,I really miss the old Might and Magic games, I wish somebody would make Might and Magic 11 for XP or Vista :).

Neverwinter Nights 2 ? Version 1.04 Patch Notes
January 15th, 2007

New Features
General
? Voice Menu
Users can now press the Voice Menu key (?V? by default) to activate a menu from which they can quickly access frequently used voice commands and emotes. Users can drag these to the hotbar, as well.
? Added support for bindable keys to change the hotbar pages.

? Users can now select in the options menu whether or not they want left click and hold in Driving Camera to move the character or mouselook.
? All combat modes can now be triggered instantly, except for Parry, Rapid Shot, and Flurry of Blows, which are deferred until the beginning of the next round.
o Your pending combat modes are now displayed on the action queue UI, with a countdown ticker, tooltip, and mouse click support.
o You can now toggle of and off a pending combat mode.
o Combat modes are no longer turned off for party members at the end of their combat round.
? Trees throughout the game should look better as many of the tree textures and models have been revamped to be more visually appealing.

DM Client
? DMs will no longer automatically run lore checks on acquired items.

'07? :p

[feb 2007 ?]

:D

i seriously *wonder* ... why didn't they just release it in March and get the Summer sales? ... if they THEN started to patch it, they would have a very interested and loyal bunch of fans that would have continued to Support and buy plugins thru the next Xmas season ... just like Oblivion

their business model looks much more sound .... and generates a real *buzz* that lasts ... instead of negative publicity ... did atari/obsidian just run out of money and have to ship it?

i wonder if NWN2 will still be in the top 20 this month?
if they can fix it, they might have *longevity* ... yet ;)

1.04? Too bad I just finished the game. Overall I love the game, didn't experience any bug besides a few occasional "NPC not following". Kinda want to try playing it again with a difference class, but i still yet to finish Oblivion, so it's going to FS thread

I'm sorry but I glanced over the features and it didnt look like they made the quick-bar any bigger, or do I keep missing that?
If not, then I guess I'll have to keep my mod installed for the 3x12 bar.

Nevermind. I see its one of the features on the top of the list.

-= NEW TOPIC! =-

Who all can you lose during the game?
In Baldurs Gate 2 you had to lose Yoshimo when you went inside the Asylum, and you could never get him back.
Also, it was possible to kill (or let die or go to prison/stay imprisoned) Edwin, Viconia, Jan Jansen, Mazzy Fentan, Haer Dalis', and I think Misc and Jaheira too (provided you dont talk to them at the beginning).

I got sick of Neverwinter Nights by the start of Chapter 2 and have no idea what happens to any of the potential allies.

+++ BIG, MAJOR SPOILERS!!! +++
In NWN2 I think you have to lose Bishop during the big fortress siege, so it makes sense to unequip him before you start it.
You have to lose Shandra Jerro before entering the Shrine at Amon Jerros Haven.
Take off all her equipment before talking to the guardian.
At the endgame, when talking to Black Garius, he managed to convince both Qara and Neeshka to leave me, but that was it.

Wanted to know who else has the potential to leave me and is it affected simply by influence, or are there any specific events that can trigger it? Also, are there any console commands or ANY way to see exactly what my influence is with a particular character?

By the way, the so-called "official" strategy guide SUCKS!
I think it must have been made before the game itself was even published. They are missing whole quests and they really didnt even provide quality info for what they have.
The Versus Books "Perfect Guides" for BG2 and its add-on were much better.

Qara will leave you took Sand with you, regardless of your influence with her. If you didn't take Sand, and her influence is high enough, she'll stay. Unfortunately, Black Garius will reequip them if you strip them, but you might as well take any potions or items that could be used for other characters.

Neeshka gets kidnapped right as you enter the end stronghold. If your influence is high enough when you find her, she'll be glad to see you and won't betray you under torture. Thats the first influence check. The second influence check will come when Garius tries to turn her away from you. Since he used her fiend blood to bind her to him, she doesn't have much choice and requires a pretty high influence to stay with you. My second playthrough aren't to that point yet, but I'm taking care to get all the influence with Neeshka I can. I liked her character. Others have reported that she stayed with them at the end though, so it can be done.

Bishop betrayed me at the keep battle, but he also betrayed Garius at the fight scene, leaving the ruins entirely. Go figure.

Me too. I think for story purposes he HAS to betray you, but for Role-Playing purposes a high influence keeps him from fighting you.

-= Further Spoilers! =-

In the end battle, you get to control EVERYBODY. (There is a slider next to the portraits so you can see all team members.) Make sure you spend some time leveling up all your allies and giving them half-decent equipment before your charge into the final dungeon. When you enter the final section there is a small area you can rest at to restore spells and special powers.

***************SPOILERS*********

here's my strategy before entering the final scene
[i may not like NWN2 ... but i know RPG]

Do a hard *SAVE* ... then run [i mean RUN] thru the dialog to see *who* is on *your side*

*RELOAD and UNequip the traitors*
[strip them completely and screw up their spells] ... Enter the Final Scene With *Confidence* ;)
[enjoy the dialog this time]

simple and elegant no? :p
[*cheating*, yes]
:Q

Bishop was with me till the End ...
[then i burned him to a crispy critter]

and it was so OBVIOUS that Sandra was the *blood sacrifice* i *automatically* UNequipped her before entering the Shrine {when i cared ... before i godmoded it}

Even after the latest patch, I still can't multiplay NWN2 with my friend and his boy. This is the reason I paid for the game and so far it has been a disappointment that we can't multiplay the game. My daughter is enjoying single playing the game tho with a druid.... not that she knows D&D that well at 11.

Get BG2 and play it! It is quite good but get the bug patch too! It has many interesting side quests etc and is long. About the only thing I didn't like was at times the game would hijack you thru some cut scenes where you didn't have any control (ie save the game or exit gracefully) until they were done. But get BG2 and enjoy it, even with the 2D graphics the story is very rich and detailed, and quite abit of spoken dialogue.

ROFL!!!! Love your strategy!

BG1 had a better story than BG2. But, the character interaction, the UI / game mechanics made the game better than BG1.

Agree'd. My first exposure to CRPG's was Icewind Dale multiplayed but I single played BG1 the same summer and fully enjoyed it. I do feel BG2 was a very worthy sequel to BG1 and offered more dialogue, romance options and other enhancements. More often than not, sequels don't live up to original releases.

I only have the CD version of BG1.

Does anybody know if they added multiple resolution support for the DVD edition?

No, you have to use the BG tutu.
