i bought it Day One for fifty bucks and have watched ti go on sale for $25 twice while i waited to play it for 6 weeks while the morons at Atari kept saying "patience"

IF it came out in Late Dec the way it is *now* -- it would have been tolerable .. when it was released it was an abomination.

i have those same two words for Atari ;)

BTW, nvidia users, want a big increase in FPS? Mine seems to have went up by about 5-8 by doing this.

From reading over NWN2's forums, it seems that there is a bug in the detonator drivers err forceware drivers from nvidia (latest ones on their site). It has the wrong .exe file in the profile of NWN2's 3d program settings. Add one for nwn2main.exe (the one that is in process viewer when the game is running) and force v-sync and triple buffer to be disabled. It REALLY helps, but some tearing does happen, but the trade off is worth it. Seems like nvidia put NWN2.exe in their profile rather than nwn2main.exe

Apoppin, did you solve your issue with the fire trap? You drag the empty bottle from your inventory into the loot window for the water filled basin. Once you drop it there it will automatically fill up and you can drag it back to your inventory.

What is with all the people complaining they can't control their characters? The puppet mode disables all AI except following OUTSIDE of combat. You can also queue up commands in and out of puppet mode. I only used puppet mode on my main character but I would often times queue up a lot of spells on my casters. The AI isn't perfect, I do like BG2's method much better, but it was not that difficult to control them in NWN2.

The one thing I noticed between BG2 and NWN2 is that it appears they made the combat a lot easier in the OC to compensate for the lack of control over your party. In BG2, there were lots of times where you needed every member of your party doing everything perfectly to win a battle, and those scenarios don't really happen in NWN2. I remember times in BG2 where if you fought a lich you could have 2 characters prisoned fairly quickly.

I remember that battle. Kangaxx, the demi-lich. Possibly, the hardest battle in the entire game. I managed to beat him, but lost 3 party members to imprisonment. The level 9 spell imprisonment permanently banishes the party member to a coffin beneath the earth's surface. There was only place in the game where you could get the counter spell, Freedom. The duergar merchants, if memory serves. I had to do a little editing with one of the Gatekeeper programs to get some Freedom scrolls to get my party members back.

Tough battle, but not as tough as the battle you fought to get that Staff of Wizardry or was it the Staff of the Archmage. I forget which, so time to replay it. ;)

no it is a genuine *bug* ... the bottle will NOT fill. ... [period]. :p

no biggie ... i just reloaded an earlier save and 'went on' with other SQs ... IF the game is patched by the time and this issue is addressed, fine ... otherwise, i don't think it is essential to the game - except for the XP and *loot*:(

also i noticed, that sometimes my inventory cannot be accessed :|
... right before the fight with Lorn i could not equip ANY weapons ... i had to go back to an earlier save [i save EVERY 10 minutes, whether i 'need' to save --- or not] ... so perhaps it may function fine the next time i enter the Collector Quest [having dumped the Entire SQ].

And i have been telling everyone to use Puppet Mode [or OVERuse pause] to control EACH character -- IF needed ... and you are 'right' ... with ALL the Characters in my Party working together, there is no problem taking down any enemies so far ... even that Damn Ogre-Mage and his entire Mob was a Piece of Cake ... on the 1st try!
... after i lied to Him and lured him into the Statue Room ] :p
(they DO have lots of 'alternatives' for battle and you can use the IMPERFECT npc AI to your advantage)

and i can't compare to any other D&D rpg --except KotOR series -- and KotOR blows NWN2 outta the water -- in every way ... NWN2 has FINALLY become "tolerable" for me ... {i am 'purifying' myself}

you wanna talk about a SLOW start?

I am not sure if this is what you are doing, but if you try to move gear while the game is paused during combat, the gear will act like it didn't move (everything will go back to it's original spots), but if you unpause the game, everything will move where you requested it to. This could apply to both the lorn fight (depending on what you meant by right before) or the water jug (the waiters can go from blue to red if they yell for help and put you in combat).

i have been playing this game for at least 50 hours
:Q

duh

haven't you noticed any bugs?
 the NWN2 Forums are STILL filled with 'my' complaints
[and i am one of the lucky ones ... now ... and can 'workaround' most anything --i hope]

UN-paused ... in battle or not ... after a cutscene .... after 'resting' ... *sometimes* the inventory simply refuses to respond ... [*occasionally* you cannot remove/equip or drop gear ... but ReLoad ALWAYS works]
.... in other words it *acts* like it was paused during combat. ;)

sometimes the Map refuses to respond [it's the 'm" key :p] ... i have to change main Char ... and then back to get it to work

with the water, the Servants are "cool" ... the container does NOT flippin' fill ... anytime ... with any character ... anyway ... anyhow ... before the encounter with the Collector, before his wife ... or after ... i GOTTA reload.

i know a *bug* when i see one

and this game is [finally] looking like a *polished beta*

at least it does NOT install a "rootkit"

Hehe, sorry. Look at my xfire profile, I played it all last week start to finish.

The problems I had:
- 1 battle in a basement with a demon it kept looping the cutscene while I was trying to fight. Very agrivating.
- The keep monk wouldn't let khelgar do his quest

That is all I really ran into, no inventory problems.

thanks for your help

i am a not a D&D n00b ... certainly not after KotOR series... i just don't really like the 'fighting' ...
'turn-based' is as "unreal" as it gets for me ... but i do "appreciate" its roots in D&D ...

as long as the story is interesting, i am cool with it
[and NWN2 is starting to get interesting ... after halfway]

the problems are annoying ... but as long as QuickSave is "quick" ... UNlike Gothic3 which was torture ... i can handle the irritations

and so far, it is really easy ... i mean really really easy [unlike KotOR before you got your LS]
as a 'personal challenge', i have deliberately refused to *craft anything* ...
... it is all in "storage" ... just in case ;)

pssh, kangaxx was a joke. mace of disruption > kangaxx.

i didn't learn that one till i had viconia with the mace of disruption +2... i couldnt fvcking believe it! normally he whips me.. but he failed his save vs. death.. and blew into 10000 giblets :D:D:D

edit: as far as the staff of wizardry battle.. that one isn't that bad, it really all depends on when you fight it. i did it pre-underdark, so i had a bit of trouble, but not too much... a few reloads and i won eventually (another part where the mace of disruption would be handy :))

Thanks Bateluer!

Good to see that Atari has not cut off Obsidian from supporting this game!

Any idea if they patched out SecuROM 7?

EDIT: SecuROM 7.29 detected:(

how about some *BUG REPORTS*?

... and *SPOILERS AHEAD* :p

OK ... in the Swamp where you return to get the 5th Statue's Blessing where you have to fight the Shadow Reaver ... well, i went thru the Winter Trial ... then somehow got to the Statue ... then found the Spring Trial ... BUT it said i already completed it ... [no i DIDN'T] and there it Ended.

so i trudged on ... didn't seem to affect it except lost XP :p

OK ... i am Supposed to return to Crossroads [i fortified the walls] to talk to the old Mage and work on the Golem Thingy. i had *everything* for it including the Rune which i got from the smithy ... now the little Gnome kept asking me for the rune and it disappeared from my inventory BUT the Journal STILL says i need the rune .... END of Golom's help [i guess].
[i got the giant Spider to agree to help when needed . . . so that was OK]

i am already at the Haven ... can i use the console to give me the rune or am i SoL? Did i do this at the wrong time?

Apoppin same thing happened to me, that Golem quest is stupidly bugged. From what I understand, if you get the ink and then get the rune without going back to the golem in between, it updates your quest log but the dialogue for Grobnar doesn't change in that he still wants a rune that you already gave him. I didn't bother with it and just went on with the game.

i have *avoided* walkthrus and cheats ... so far ... as part of the "fun" in these types of games is to *figure* it yourself
{that said ... moving those 6 spirits into place was torture ... glad it wasn't 60 spirits} :p
[at least it advance the plot a bit ... and DAMN ... i can see TWISTs and the ENDING coming from a mile away ... i really think i could rewrite a better story]

IF you use the console [you can use the console, right?] will i get credited for completing the quest? will i get a *useful* construct ally? and will i get the XP?

i delivered *everything* to Grobner at once ... i guess i could go back and re do it :p
{which i hate}

what about Spring/Summer and Fall? i only completed Winter and got to the 4th Statue [i *thought* i had to do all 4 seasons to get to it ... did i miss anything important?] i even HATE going back further ... and i will not REPLAY this game [even if i figure out a way to "keep" it with the SecureCrap stuff installed]

and i guess the Beta 1.04 is not updated with the Auto-updater ... i won't update it manually as their "betas" tend to break more than they fix.

The statues give you abilities, how many abilities do you have? You should have 4. If you have 4 abilities, you most likely got the exp that came with them. The abilities have pink names, that is how you can tell them apart from other things, and they are listed in the feats.

I don't know how useful the construct is, I didn't really care about having that giant tincan walking around my fortress.

yep, i got all 4 abilities [one is Suck] .... but i *lost* all the XP from fighting the Enemies of Spring/Summer/Fall :p

i don't know how useful that Giant Spider is ... but i imagine it and the Construct will be *useful* in defending the Keep ;)

So far ... i still haven't *created* a single thing ... no custom *anything* ... so UNnecessary ... so far [i have a PILE of material ... just in case]

I'm currently re-playing VtM: Bloodlines, and it's far more enjoyable than NWN2. This game is 2+ years old now (Source engine) and it still looks better than NWN2.

For anyone who likes Deus Ex, this one is definitely worth looking at.

After Prey [on Sale for less than $20 everywhere], Fable, FEAR's Xpack [when will there be a patch?] and Kts of the 9 ... i am getting Bloodlines ...
... still have to finish Gun [sucky] and HL2/ch1 [boring] :p

Anywhere to get VtM:Bloodlines both new and cheap?

what kind of fighting? D&D "turn based" or FPS "real time"?

It's realtime. The game is fairly action-oriented, much like Gothic, where you can move and attack freely but you also have stats which dicate how well you can fight (mostly the damage you inflict). You also get abilities which allow you to become faster, stronger, turn invisible, or cause your enemies to vomit their innards out, etc (depending on your clan).

Ebay is always a good place to find things cheap, other than that, Froogle may turn up something.

Bah, this new beta patch has some kind of autofollow bug, only the green wench will follow me after I zone or initiate dialog, this is annoying as hell having to rebroadcast "FOLLOW ME" everytime I talk to someone. I am really thinking of just playing (never played it before, was next on my list after I finish NWN2) PlaneScape: Torment while I wait for the game to get to a point that it should have been at when they launched the game.
