Beta Patch Installer
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NWN2Other.Detail&id=96

Incomplete Beta Patch notes.

eneral
? Multi-Select is now available as an option in both the DM Client and main game client. By default, Mouse 4 will select the entire party, and Mouse 5 or holding CTRL+Left Click will enable lasso selection of party members.
? Many substantial improvements to the AI scripts provided by community member evenflw have been integrated into the game. Additionally, revisions were made to AI to make both friendly and enemy characters be much more intelligent with feat use in combat.
? There is now an ?Advanced Options? button on the Server Options panel. Server Administrators can specify two URLs in this menu: One, intended to point to their server?s homepage, if it has one, and one intended to directly point to the server?s latest PWC file. Players will be able to see these links from the Server Details on the Internet Game browser and clicking them will launch the user?s Browser and direct them to the URL specified.
? Many of the skyrings (the geometry that exists at the horizon of the game world) have been revised to make them more visually appealing.
? There is now a 4th parameter to the DisplayGuiScreen() script function that allows a user to define the name fo the *.xml file to load if the 'ScreenName' can't be found inside the INIs already. This will allow custom GUI creators to add GUIs (Using the ui\custom\ folder) and not need to edit the INIs stored in ui\default to make the game able to load them.
? Augment Summoning and Augment Healing are now selectable once their prerequisites have been met.
Scripting
? A bDisplayFeedback=TRUE parameter was added to both ActionGiveItem and ActionTakeItem. Changing it from the default of TRUE to FALSE will keep the feedback strings from appearing in the chat window when these script functions are used.
? 2DAs queried by script functions are now cached. This should increase performance of scripts that frequently reference 2Das.
? Within the Script Editor, hitting the Tab key now creates 5 spaces instead of inserting a tab character.
Toolset
? Within the appearance.2da, NWN2_Scale has now been split into three columns: NWN2_Scale_X, NWN2_Scale_Y and NWN2_Scale_Z. This will allow users to scale creature appearances non-uniformally through the appearance.2da.
? The Grass, Creature Appearance Type, and Creature Soundset lists are now sorted alphabetically.
? Walkmesh Helpers have been added to Placeables/Misc Props. These objects are invisible square objects that can be resized and placed on a map to bake a walkmesh. You can use them to make flat objects walkable that normally are not or would be difficult to bake. Some examples of situations where these would be useful are a long length of repeating bridge pieces or building roofs. To view the Walkmesh Helpers in the Toolset, turn on the display of C2 Collision volumes. There are two versions; each will play a different footstep sound. Special thanks to Zarathustra217 for the original concept and objects.

Bug Fixes
General
? The Quick Cast menu was blocking movement clicks for its entire area ? even parts that were not visible. Players can now click through any non-visible part of the Quick Cast menu.
? Feats will now properly show their cool down timer countdown.
DM Client
? The DM Chat toggle could previously not be turned back on after it was turned off. This has been fixed.
Effects/Spells
? Certain multiclass characters could lose spells from their hotbar after making area transitions. This will no longer occur.
? The Reflex save for Defensive Roll can now happen multiple times per day.
? Manyshot was previously always applying the full attack bonus and penalty to hit, regardless of the character?s BAB. This has been fixed.
? Female Drow Clerics would be previously be forced to pick a new deity at level up if they had selected Lolth during character creation. This has been fixed.
?
Toolset
? Several words that previously were incorrectly being highlighted by the syntax highlighter will no longer be highlighted.
? The GetIsPartyTransition() flag for triggers always returned true, regardless of what was set in the toolset. This has been fixed.

I like seeing Ai improvements!

Dont forget to sign the SecuROM removal petition.

I only scan the NWN2 forums every couple of days so I don't follow them as closely as I should. Now, Rogue Dao Studios, on the other hand, has been bookmarked as one of my daily websites to visit because of their Planescape Trilogy.

Atari finally locked the SecuROM removal petition thread and is now silencing everyone who protests the lock stating if they have complaints to PM the community PR man rather than posting about it.

Cant have any negative press you know or goodness forbid removing an ineffective antipiracy application (which costs Atari money to license from Sony) that slows legit users down when pirates patch it away.

Way to listen to your customers:thumbsup:

I haven't actually experienced any problems with the SecurRom in NWN2, but I do agree that 'silencing' negative press is a poor decision on Atari's part.

You'd think with their financial situation, they'd want to listen more to the customers who buy their games.

I have never had any trouble out of it either, but many users have. The important thing (for me) is that one can get a performance boost by removing it via a patched executable.

Thats what it looks like. I maintain a policy of not installing beta patches unless there is a serious issue I have with the game, so I've been waiting for the finished 1.05 patch. The final version should come out soon. OE has been turning in patches to QA, but QA keeps rejecting them, so they continue to refine the patch. Hopefully this means we will get a really good patch. It also likely means that OE could do some brushing up on their programming skills. :p

Schadenfroh, how much of a performance boost are we talking about here? And do you have a link to this patched executable?

From what I have read on Atari and NWN2's obsidian forums, some people "claim" a 5% - 10% increase using the patched executable that has SecuROM stripped from it. I have never tried it.

This link maybe helpful:

Performance Tweaks and Improvement

How to remove Securom and get better performance

** While this method will improve performance, it has the potential to be inconvenient. Essentially, you are removing a copyright protection service running in the background on your machine. Once you remove it, you must boot the game with a no cd/dvd patch like the one from reloaded. This has some side effects. One, should you run the NWN2 Update program, it will return an error regarding a download. This is because the patcher is checking the .exe file to see what version you are running and it will find a mismatch. Multiplayer suffers a similar issue. When trying to enter multiplayer, it will inform you a new version is available. Clicking ?yes? launches the updater and the above problem occurs. Saying ?no? returns you to the main menu?however..clicking multiplayer *again* launches the server browser. What I?m not sure of is if you can still join a multiplayer game at that point, it hangs on me when I try. *Confirmed: You must be using the original .exe files to play multiplayer.

**IMPORTANT: If you have any other games that depend on securom, this will disable the copy protection as well, possibly leaving you unable to play the game without re-installing it.

If you are looking for a performance increase, and multiplayer isn?t an issue, just do the following:
Download this program discussed here. Follow the instructions in the first forum post at guru3d. This will remove the securom service from running on your machine.
Now, download the no CD/DVD patch here. Look for the one by ?Reloaded?
Go to your NWN2 install directory. In my case it?s C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2
Create a folder called ?bak?
Move the nwn2.exe and nwn2_amdxp.exe into the ?bak? folder.
UN-Rar the patch from ?Reloaded? and place the two .exes into your main NWN2 folder.
Boot the game normally; it will load up without a CD/DVD and without Securom.

When a patch is released, you will need to move the nwn2.exe and nwn2_amdxp.exe files from your install directory and replace them with the original ones now in ?bak?. You can now patch. This will however re-install securom! You?ll need to rinse and repeat the above process after you?ve patched.

I'm not seeing any performance issues using the 1.04 patch on my X2 4200+ system, though it does have 2 GB and a 7900GTX

Fun game so far (chapter 1 in Neverwinter), though I'd like some way to see my influence levels with NPCs, party reputation, and my current alignment numbers. Am I just missing the button to see an equivalent of KOTOR's dark/light status window? (I did RTFM though not closely.)

If it's anything like the original (haven't installed NWN2 yet), the character panel indicates status along the Good->Evil and Lawful->Chaotic axes.

i know a better way to petition Atari :|

;)

boycott their future releases ... they only release buggy betas, anyway ... wait until it is bargain bin if you *must* have it ... they will make no further money off me

There's an old saying in Tennessee ? I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee ? that says, fool me once, shame on ? shame on you. Fool me ? you can't get fooled again.

--as a completely unrelated side note ... STALKER doesn't even require a DVD in the drive to play

OK, who is the Cluster F@c&, Charlie-Foxtrot here now? :p

i always thought it was Atari .... rushing this project out the door ...

do they only have a couple of people working on patches or are the Devs really incompetent?
