Heh- that wouldn't be so bad- $40K to play games on new hardware all day. You won't get rich, but the lifestyle wouldn't suck!

Who can say who's better off:
The programmer making $60K-$70K slaving away, or the guy making $40K kicking back with some video games?

In any case, this has all gotten pretty far OT?

40k would be an insult for what I do. ;)

And for BouZ's (how appopriate..booze) information, I pay for quite a bit, thank you. Like my house, like my cars, like my TVs, like my furniture, and yes, even my hardware (I'd have to be pretty greedy if I asked for everything on a silver platter, now wouldn't I?). I'd love to see if you could afford to live in Southern California. ;)

And I find it highly amusing about how you presume to know my work conditions. I guarantee you, there's most likely better than anything you've every done. ;)

For those of you that don't read nvnews, btw, the answer has been there for a while now. ;)

Sorry but that is lame, I was hoping for new products of some type not some marketing campaign pushing a couple of features

I find it hard to believe as well. Nvidia has a countdown to reveal something we've known for how long now? Maybe they can throw their CineFX extensions in there as well and call it the "Fantastic Four".

No, wait... That's already been taken.

"You don't use dial-up"

I did up until about a month ago, and I still am in a way. I have a one-way cable Internet connection. The ancient 1999 modem uses cable to download, but I have to dial-up like a normal dial-up connection (tying up the phone line and very slow and all) to upload. This results in poor pings in games, but still better than dial-up. This is the only "broadband" I can get besides satellite and it's from a local ISP and cable company. Anyway, I have the "Economy Internet" package, which is 1000 kbps down and dial-up speeds up for $25/month. I really want two-way cable, though...

So. Cal, heh.

You think I live in the Ghetto or somthing?

I live 30 min outside NY state.

Average house price is around 800,000-1 million in the towns around me.

All these towns are around my city.

Average house price is 500,000 in my town.

Not to mention taxes, dont tell me about living somewhere expensive. :disgust:

I'd like to see if you could afford to live in Fairfield County."

^are these guys really arguing about whose town cost more to live in?

.....lame.

back on topic, if thats the power of three, then i am a bit dissapointed, but its good marketing none the less. I think that in their minds they are thinking that now that they have hardware capable of taking advantage of hdr and sm 3.0 features i guess its time to make those words that joe average or at least joe non-enthusisit knows the meaning of and might as well have him/her assoiciate them with Nvida while they are at it.

Well this has really gotten off Topic.

Anyways, if you live in a city where cost of living is high, chances are your pay is also higher for the same job somwhere else where cost of living is low. From what I remember Cali and New York rank one of the highest in terms of cost of living. I'm a nurse here in Houston, and I make a pretty good living. Looking at what my cousins make in Cali who are also nurses, it sounded real good for me to move there, but then saw the cost of living, and it evens out. So a 170,000.00 home here in Houston, translates to close to half a mill in Cali, so my cousins says.

I hear that. That is what keeps me in Mississippi.

anyway, theres no way they could've kept something like that under wraps.

i could be mistaken but i believe that board has 3 slots so that you can either use the two outside ones for SLI, or the middle one by itself if you aren't using SLI. it would get rid of the need for a paddle, but the implementation is stupid because it's wasting a slot :p

I believe that in an effort to have marketing pizzaz all the way around, nvidia will go with this set of rankings:

GT for base model
GTX for Midgrade
Ultra for top of the line

your probably right...it would seem that those rankings are much more marketing efficient.

i'm guessing we won't be seeing any 7800 Ultra AT LEAST until CrossFire hits the market, but more likely not until right before (or around) when ATI unveils the real next-gen stuff.

It's so obvious what the power of 3 is lol, if it's not SLI X3 then it HAS to be more vid cards, IMO I think on August 11th their releasing 2 new 7800's. Therefore:

1) 7800 GTX
2) 7800 GT
3) 7800 ULTRA

That's my idea of the power of 3. Then eventually it's all going to be balanced out by ATI within the next month.

1) X900 Pro
2) X900 XT
3) X900 XT PE

There's massive competition for you. :D

it will not be a 7800U as that will not be announced/released until after the 520 escapes the closet. employ logic.

it may be a 7800 and 7800GT which when added to the 7800GTX, which together make three products, but i believe it to be feature related.

HDR + H264 decoding + dual-threaded drivers or some such.
