Nvidia G71 (7900 Ultra) 90nm 750MHz

Yikes, that thing would cook!

On another note, the article mentioned the 8000 series GEForces, and their SM 4.0 support. Will DX10 finally be around and supported in this GPU? Seems like we've been stuck at DX9 longer than previous versions.

This is getting even more interesting, ATI and nVidia are just throwing cards out there and hoping to find demand for them. Can't wait till we see R580 vs. G71

If nvidia can reach 550+ MHz with 24 pipes on a 110nm process, I don't see them having any issue reaching 750-ish with a 90nm 24 pipe core. I have read somewhere (I will try and find the text) that nVidia will use low-K in this 90nm core. This makes it easier to believe the 750 number. ::::goes off to look for text::::

I would imagine it has to have some compatibility with Vista supposed to be out late 06.
It would be foolish for Nvidia to not have at least one product in the channel that is DX10 compatible.

750Mhz would be unbelievable imo.

The info on G80 or 8000 series is pure BS. It was just tacked on these comments.

Considering they're hitting almost 600Mhz with 24 pipes on the current 7800"Ultra" cards, this isn't that much of a jump from the current high-end (although compared with the original stock 7800GTX, it's a 50% improvement). Just doing a die-shrink of the current design and moving to low-k 90nm might be enough.

People also indicated you couldn't make a DX9 card on 130nm.
Things can be done, and it if uses low-k then it's even more doable.
ATi got to 600MHz with 130nm (albeit on a lot less complex chip), they have also got close to 700MHz on 90nm (dunno if they use low-k though, if they don't then 750MHz is very doable in theory).
Given that nVidia will have had soem time to refine the design, I don't see 750MHz being too outlandish.

As reported on November 7, an upstream component shortage has led to tight supplies of ATI?s GPUs including the Radeon 9250, X300, X550 and its recently launched Radeon X1000 family.
which components are those?

my new 7800GT (which can currently play every game including FEAR ar 1280x1024 4xAA/8xAF) will be an entire generation behind in 6 months. does this mean developers will be able to make faster games, which we won't be able to run...it's a vicious cycle

Common sense.

All this information/speculation is based on the comments of Marv Burkett and Michael Hara's comments at the latest conference. They do not mention G80 or SM4.

The G80+SM4 part was tacked on just to make it more sensational. 😀

Common Sense? Then perhaps "IMHO" should have been tacked onto your statement because it would seem you came to your own conclusion. But you really don't need to now as that is understood.

Well since common sense is not applicable to all, I should have tacked an IMHO in there just in case. 😀

I listened to the conference call and there wasnt any mention of G80 or SM4. That remains a fact.

I'm not buying it. I'm sure it would own, but since vista isn't going to run DX9 programs, then there's no point in buying it. I'm gonna wait for DX10.

EDIT: That thing would really "coock" indeed.

Well it's great that these new cards are coming out at such a rapid pace but where are the good games?!? You can give me a super computer to use but if the games suck, who cares? Right now I find just keeping track of this hardware and discussing it to be much more "fun" than actually utilizing the hardware for gaming...sigh.

Current engines still have a lot of life in them, its up to developers to increase detail and geometry counts and texture sizes to challenge the new hardware.

I care about graphics but I'm equally concerned about content. Right now games are lacking severely in the latter category.
