The list of questions should be expanded to include:

"Do you require a quiet or inaudible PC?"

The answer to that question can have a significant impact on the parts list.

First, im from Argentina and im not a native speaker, so sorry if my english is just bad, im doing the best i can.
Now, to the topic. Tired of my VERY old computer, i finally decide to buy a new one. But not any machine, im talking about a Gaming Sistem, and a hardcore one. In wanna play skyrim, Mass Efect 2, Fallout New Vegas, Bioshock 2 and every other game in High Quality. Well, if i can afford it xD.
I willing to pay a max of ~1500-2000 USD (~7.000 pesos argentinos). I already have this offer:
Procesor INTEL Core I5-2310 2,9 Ghz Socket 1155
Mother ASUS P8H67-M PRO REV 3.0 s1155
RAM DDR3 8 Gb PC1333
HDD 500 Gb S-ATA 7200
Graphic Card PCI-E ATI RADEON 1024 MB HD 5670 DDR5
Grabadora de DVD Black -> Yeah, DVD, no problem with this. Blu Ray is too much expensive in my country.
Lector Tarjeta Interno
Case Sentey Black Box BX1-4284 2,1
PSU 650 W
So, this are my questions:
1) I dont think that the graphic card is enough. I most reviews, i read things like "im testing this with game, but you dont want to use it whit hardcore gaming". So, ¿did you think i have to change it? ¿And what you recommend?
2) I like the mother board, it even have crosfire. Still, i want to hear opinions in this, cause it is a critical factor. ¿Is capable of upgrading in 3 years?
3) If i have to add a more powerfull Graphic Card, then, ¿it is necesary to add a bigger PSU?
Thanks you for your time and help gentlemens...
PD : about overclocking, im not gona do it till i really need it. That is, in a few years when this build start to get old.

I would like to suggest some changes.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

I'm not sure this is needed. I've seen various to this question, but invariably people are going to create their own thread and ask their questions.

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.

Not everyone games, so I propose it changed to this:

8. What resolution will you be using?

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

A peeve of mine is people asking about picking out specific parts many months before they actually plan to purchase said parts. This is a bad idea for so many reasons. Perhaps something like this may be better:

9. WHEN do you plan to build it? Note that it is usually not cost or time effective to choose your build more than a month before you actually plan to be using it.

Alternately just ditch this question altogether, and have a blurb stating to not ask until right before purchasing.

Or is it just me that gets irked :hmm: with people asking about what parts to buy, and then going "oh I'm not buying for another 6 months." And then 6 months later seeing a thread, "OMG I can no longer find that socket 1366 motherboard I was planning to get, and HDD prices blows my budget out of the water, and who has stock on that super awesome Radeon 5870 I had my eye on?"

10. Don't ask for a build configuration critique or rating if you are thin skinned.

Is this necessary?

I would also want to add this question:

X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?

These are just suggestions on what I would like to see. Maybe I'm just being weird again? :p

Welcome to the forums.

Note the list of questions in the original post, they help us give you the most useful feedback possible. What you're going to want to do is actually start your own thread in this forum (General Hardware) and list out the answers to the questions, plus the parts your considering.

Your post will get much more attention, and therefore feedback that way.

Off the top of my head there are several ways you can save money on this build.

1) That PSU is far and away more power than you need. A nice 550-650W unit is plenty, you might go a little higher if you truly plan to Crossfire in the future. However, unless you're planning to purchase the second GPU within 6 months to a year, Crossfire isn't going to be worth it.

2) i7's don't really have much gaming advantage over i5's. You're better off looking at the i5 2500K or i5 3570K.

3) That motherboard is far and away more expensive than you need. Unless there's some uncommon feature that you have to have, a solid gaming motherboard shouldn't cost you more than $110, maybe $160 if you need Crossfire/SLI capability. (Again, I would discourage the Crossfire route for all but the largest displays.)

But again, make your own thread and you'll get plenty of other feedback as well.

Alright lets see if I can do this right:

-My pc will be primarily be used for gaming (I plan to play a lot of BF3, Skyrim, the new Rome II coming out).
-Price range is roughly 1500-2000
-Parts will be bought in the USA
-I prefer Intel, but not a fanboy
-I don't have any parts, I'm starting from scratch
-Resolution will be 1920x1080
-I'm hoping to start ordering parts within the next month

Don't burn me too bad, I'm a noob to building computers. Websites to buy the parts would be greatly appreciated as well as any tips and tricks.

1. My PC will be used mainly for Streaming/Recording/Editing Gameplay, general use of course, browsing the web, downloading music, watching movies(Downloaded or Blu Rays). I also would like a great Audio system to go along with it.

2. Budget - Honestly it's my first build so I was thinking 800-1000 bucks.(Not including software, that will have a budget of it's own.) willing to go higher just a bit if need be.

3. I will be buying my parts in USA from Newegg.com or Amazon.com, unless you recommend and even better and cheaper place to get high quality parts for more bang for my bucks.

4. I'm not really a fanboy of anything, but mainly I notice AMD and Nvidia trend, but I'm open to suggestions that will help me meet the goal I have above.

5. Using any parts I have? I'm pretty much starting from scratch, but if there is one part I would use it's my, Avermedia Game Broadcaster HD Model: C127 Part Number: MTVGBCAST.

6. Overclocking, if necessary to do my task and the trade offs are worth it.

7. Resolutions? 1280X720, 1280x1024, 1920x1080 and Above.

8. As soon as I know what I need and where to buy it, so ASAP.

9. I would like to use Windows 8, Sony Vegas Pro 12, looking for a photoshop program, XSplit for Broadcasting, Audio Program(Any suggestion?), Im Open to suggestions.

Thanks for your time and patience, I can't wait to get started, if possible and not too much trouble, direct link me to a Thread, that will teach me A-Z about computers, so by the end with knowledge and hours of hands on experience I will know what the heck I'm talking about and help others here too.

1. Will be used for Gaming
2. Under 800$ bucks preferably
3. USA, these are from newegg (free shipping for everything)
4. Fan of Intel/nVidia
5. Parts above unless better options are available
7. Might slightly boost GPU, and change RAM to 1600
8. 1680x1050, 1920x1080
9. Now till Dec 13th
10. How is my current build for <800$ and what can I improve on, also if putting in 50$ more dollars would be worth it, I'd like to know.

Thanks in advance!

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
-PC will be used solely for gaming purposes

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
-My price range is around $1,000$

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
-I will be buying from the US

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
- definitely Intel and nVIDIA

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
-Dont have any current parts to use
*

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
- I plan on OCs
8. What resolution will you be using?
I'm not planning un running flight simulators but I want to set up peripheral monitors
9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
-I need to save the money for some of the parts, because I only have a portion of my budget, but I am planning to be done with the project by Feb 2013 :)

X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?
-I need a good optic disc, but I dont necessarily need blue ray. However if the price is only a little more then I wouldn't mind getting the blue ray.
-Windows 7 64bit is what ill be using

BTW I also plan on using a liquid cooling system, if you could refer a good one, also this is the case I'm thinking about getting:

http://estore.in-win.us/product_info.php?products_id=85&osCsid=d9111ab930affaad67352860628f04bd

But if someone thinks that there is a better one for a better price please tell me

Guys- please make your own thread about your own build. You'll get more views and replies that way, and your build discussion won't interfere with other discussions ongoing in this thread.

Hello,
I am looking forward to building this computer. As this is all new to me, if someone could review my choices or offer suggestions to improve performance or prevent conflict's , I would be grateful ! I got the idea to build from ketchup79 (thank you) and only made a few changes to his recommended system.
This system will be used for gaming at 2560x1600 in ultra settings. It will also be used for stock trading using esignal advanced GET software.
I'm buying in the US
if over clocking could help, then i'd do it as long as it's stable
Hoping to get the system finalized so that can be ordered next week, Dec 21-25
Hope this is enough to get started, Thank you

Its a 700€ budget and i've already have a build in mind.
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Portugal.
4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from.
I'm buying from several stores here in Portugal.
5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
Intel-Fanboy, but again i have several pieces from several brands.
6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Nope
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
I'm not going to overclock.
8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?
Any resolution.
9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Yeah, when i have the money.
X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?
Nope.

EDIT : I have already a topic about this and the send me here

I really like this sticky, but I can't help but think that it isn't specific enough in some cases because people keep making the wrong assumptions or misunderstanding a point. Maybe some examples and clarifications, along with some basic answers to the most common questions, could help? Like this:

PLEASE answer these questions WITHIN YOUR OWN THREAD when asking for input on a build:

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks and programs you'll be using it for. (For example: Gaming, CS6, and AutoCAD)

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread. ($900-1100 is okay; $500-900 is not)

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. IF you're buyingparts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from (such as Flipkart or Aria).
We can't be expected to scour the internet on your behalf, chasing down deals in your specific country... Again, help us, help YOU.

4. If WITHIN the United States, do you like near a Microcenter?

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. Do you insist on any particular brand (Nvidia, Corsair, Seasonic, Western Digital, and so on), even at the cost of performance/dollar?

6. Do you have any existing reusable parts? If so, list them.

7. Are you comfortable overclocking (very easy, essentially just adjusting UEFI settings incrementally)?

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using (1080p, 1440p, etc)?

9. WHEN do you plan to build it? Within a week of posting is best; more than a month is too long due to fluctuating prices and product releases.

10. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?

At the end of the day it's your money. There's only so much we can do :p.

Keep in mind a few basic tips while building:

 • Buy for features (real ones like ports and clock speed, not silly things like heat shields or XAwesomePlus software), not for looks. Most cases don't have windows.

 • Gaming systems should have around 8GB of RAM. Dedicated photo editing and CAD rigs should have around 16GB to start.

 • As far as Intel goes: an i5 suffices for almost all gaming. An i7 should only be considered if you need more than 4 cores (we can help you with this if you post specific programs).

 • Overclocking is easier than ever, and can even be insured on the CPU. If your budget is over $800, you should consider it.

 • $1000 (give or take $100) is the "sweet spot" when it comes to budgeting the physical machine. Anything extra should really be going to peripherals (better monitor, keyboard, speakers, earphones) since you will have rapidly diminishing returns on hardware.
