Normal for a family of 3 to go thru about 40L of coke every 3 days?

I have never had a cavity (18 years old) my dad had several when he was my age (due to he used to chew gum all the time) but has not had one in at least 10 years. My mom has maybe had 1 every 5 years or so. None of the stuff we drink has any sugar in it, its all splenda mostly or a little nutrasweet but the acid in it is still not very good.

40 liters?!?!

IIRC, a 500mL bottle of water is approx 17oz. So a liter is 34oz.

40L*34oz = 1360oz

1360/20oz. in a bottle = 68bottles

68/3 people/3 days = 7.5

So you're saying that each person drink 7½ bottles of Coke per day?!

Oh God, please tell me my math is wrong.

Is aspartame that much better?

I would say... maybe. It seems like a lot, but I wonder how far off that is from the US average per person.
A two liter will usually last our family of four 2-4 days. I don't let the kids drink much, it's a little bit of a treat. The adults don't drink much either.

Nope, here's mine:

20 2L = 40L
40L = 1352 fluid oz (1L = 33.8 floz)
1352 floz = 10.6 gallons

3 people drank 10.6 gallons of diet soda in 3 days?! WTF? That's about 1.25 gallons per person per day!

I don't think cavities are something you inherit, but my teeth are probably better than my whole families. I've just got two really bad cavities (well, one now, the other tooth has chipped in half) and we don't have the money to do anything about either one. The dentist said two years ago they were going to be trouble teeth and yet it is still not a priority for my dad.

I'm really paranoid about my teeth I guess, so I try to brush often and floss every once in a while. As much as I dislike milk, I'll drink it to keep my teeth strong. It doesn't feel like they're being attacked, but mentally I feel like I shouldn't be drinking so much soda.

OMG!!!

I can't even imagine that. 11 gallons divided by 3 people over 3 days is almost 1 1/4 gallons a day each. I don't care if it is diet (that crap is bad for you too). Most people have a problem drinking that much liquid a day period. Even the 60-80 a week for 4 people. No wonder we have health problems.

Since you say he came home I'm guessing he works so that is just while he is at home. What does he drink at work :shocked: Switch to water!!! Heck it would be better if you all split that up to like quart beer, quart milk, and the rest water each day.

shakes head as he presses the "Reply to Topic" button...

Your math is a bit confusing.

40L = 20 two-liter bottles.
3 people drink that in 3 days
combined, the 3 people drink about 7 bottles a day.
Each person drinks about 2.2 bottles a day.

Sh!t ... that's a lot of Coke!

I drink that much in a MONTH

I'm more of a water guy. Something like 8 or 9 20oz. bottles of water/day for me.

Your math is wrong. Go back to school, and write your formulas in a more simple manner.

What's so hard to understand about his method? Makes perfect sense to me.

I bought a 12pack of Coke (actually Coca~Cola, not another soda) three weeks ago, and I haven't touched it. When I eat out, I have soda, but other than that, I never have it anymore. And this is coming from someone who used to drink 2-3 cans per day.

You're both right. Amol is talking in 20 oz bottles and 91tz is talking in 2-liter bottles.

i wasn't referring to the genetics of cavities -- just the "acquisition" of cavities in terms of family ingestion of coke, if that makes any sense :)

i am not so much a fan of carbonated drinks.
