I figure I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and respond as if you are not a Wumao, even though you didn't dispute it when we communicated months ago.

Anyway, the genes for the spike protein are proving to be relatively stable, so many (most?) vaccines being developed intentionally generate the antibodies that target this protein. The only mutation I have heard of that seems to resist existing antibodies is from the minks in Denmark and word is that they were likely able to stop/contain that (perhaps it couldn't easily spread between humans?). Still, even if it does cause an antigenic shift in the human virus that dodges the vaccine and circulates back through everyone, the work done on this vaccine will accelerate development on the one needed for that strain, much like the yearly flu vaccines.

Until I hear otherwise, I'm not terribly worried about that.
Yes, pretty much this. Like many human pathogens, minor natural mutations have been seen. As is the case, none of these have overtaken the two main strains because they aren’t any more successful than the predominant strains. We don’t need to be concerned unless certain factors change, such as:
  1. Transmissibility increases.
  2. Asymptomatic period increases.
  3. Onset of more disease increases.
As you pointed out, the key element of of current SARS-COV-2 strains have been the stability of its molecular and structural microbiology of the 'spikes' that penetrate cell walls. I have the same confidence in the ability of researchers to quickly adapt the vaccine should the virus mutate along the lines of that the three factors I just listed. The advancements made in virology and vaccine development are truly astonishing.

How long should I wait to get tested if I was potentially exposed? Sister in law was with someone last friday who we just found out tested positive, and we hung out with the sis in law on Sunday. So I'm around the 5 day period. She's getting a rapid test done today and will let me know in a few hours. If she's negative should I just not worry about it unless I get symptoms or just go get tested? I can get in later today or first thing tomorrow.

Welp, my brother gots the COVID as does his husband. Both were feeling like crap but are doing better. My brother in law tested positive two weeks ago so they will both end up quarantining for about a month.

nice

Good to see some actual leadership nearly forgot what it looked like! 🙂

Too bad the pathetic joke of a "man" in the White house is incapable of the same!

😡

Well I know why Trump would be excluded from this particular thing. He already recovered from it, so it's bad optics to waste a vaccine on him.

Still I have to wonder if he's even capable of cooperating with Obama to do something good.

Vaccine would be wasted on the likes of the Trumpster under any circumstances IMO. (unless he gets a special "live-virus" version!)

😉

5 days post exposure should be enough for PCR tests. Given the variety of rapid tests and their sensitivities I'd probably not rely on her test.

If you count Sunday today would be the 5th day. I went to the test center and they said I should take it so I got swabbed. Sis in laws results were: Bro in law positive, sis in law negative. Off to home I go again. Can't go back to work unless I get a negative result.

My wife was sent home too. She cannot go back for 14 days, even if she gets a negative result in that time. Now the whole family is going to get tested. Awesome...

He kinda did, back in October. It seems the assassination attempt failed though. Curse Walter Reid Medical Center and their world-class DO doctors! 😉

Before anyone freaks out about this article just explains what happened. Pfizer said earlier this year they expected to ship 100M doses globally by EOY but this was already publically revised downward in early November to 50M doses. Government projections already take this into account as aprox 20M doses of Pfizer vaccine are slated for delivery this month. If Moderna 's vaccine is approved that takes us to the 40M mark for December. January-February ramp up to 100M total doses per month still on track AFAIK.

AZ/Oxford and J&J are in phase three trials here that will probably show results before the end of the year. Unless one of those is approved in January with a couple hundred million doses sitting around I'd generally expect April/May for on demand vaccination of low-risk population. If Pfizer or Moderna (via Lonza their contractor) can speed things up even more that timeline will shrink of course.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but one or both of these trials in the U.S. is going slowly and far from the 30k-ish volunteers needed.

Reuters reports that AZ and Oxford University's Jenner Institute now disagree on what happened with the half dose anomaly:

Yea, good idea. I've been watching a TON of CNN, FOX and even NEWSMAX. Plus, I've been on YouTube and WOW.. There are a lot of conspiracy videos on there. 😵

I am NOT holding you! 😉

Seriously dude ... not saying you shouldn't be a LITTLE scared because that helps keep you safe but too much fear can be crippling.

Step 1 is TURN OFF the news. 🙂

Good friend of mine’s wife was getting very panicked about COVID in April(ish).
Her Doctor told her to watch/read less news and go outside with her kids instead.
That advice seemed to work.

They are a funny couple. One person has zero concerns the other was panicked over COVID

I haven't seen any enrollment figures for either. I assume the month long pause for AZ didn't help anything. Still with so much virus circulating in the US they could see a signal before enrollment is even completed. J&J is doing a jumbo 60k trial but they also are only giving a single dose.

Edit: digging around a bit Slaoui supposedly said over 28K enrolled by J&J. Can't find a clip of him saying it tho.

Reuters reports that AZ and Oxford University's Jenner Institute now disagree on what happened with the half dose anomaly:

Yeah, I don't know what to make of it but it seems an odd choice to alter the trial protocol and then...apparently not inform your commercial partner prior to doing so knowing that it could cause this kind of shit storm.

Latest news. SK has over 600 new cases, a 9 months record high and 500K high school students are taking the national college exam with the virus lurking around.

Well .... that IS some more happy news! Super freaking dee duper!!! 😳 😵

Do you get the feeling that right around Christmas the $hit is going to hit the proverbial fan all over the country?? Not much to be done about it at this point either.

😕

Dr. Scott Atlas wasn't joking when he encouraged TG dinners with elderly relatives by saying this could be the final Thanksgiving for some people.

I was about to say the same thing. Is it because the US has more people with underlining health problems such as obesity, problem with heart + lung, smoking, drinking, drugs (subscription and illegal stuffs) and so on and the virus is just the last push over the edge?

India police also beats people when they are caught violating stay at home and gathering orders. So, like China, they are generally more "effective" at enforcing dumb people to stop doing dumb things.

Say what you will about the methods and their efficiency at turning the entire country into a prison for about 1 and a half months, but China knocked that shit out of the park.
